As a rule I do not keep guns loaded around aside from the one in am carrying. Sometimes though like today when Boom came over to shoot I put my carry gun in the safe as I was not going to shoot it. A loaded gun in my safe is ALWAYS holstered. The carry gun only comes out of the holster for two reasons, one is to unload it if I am switching off, the other has not and hopefully will never come into play. If one observes Cooper's 4 rules and never breaks more than one of the rules there will never be any bloodshed from negligence. Don't know how anyone could possibly have a problem with Rabbi's rule #3.

What is that supposed to mean?

Well between cussin' and another dose of penetrant I finally got the screw out. I think the key ingrediant was some blood. I have no clue how but I cut the knuckle on the base of my thumb. I should have known that busting a knuckle was the key. Anyway I am good to go now! Thanks for all the advice and encouragement.

busted cherry and lots of smoke
Mike.357 replied to Mike.357's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Glad you brought up the idea of shooting today Boom. It was a real good time. I enjoyed shooting your P3AT and your Springer. The 1858 while a slow to load is a lot of fun to shoot. Most people expect some enormous kick to it but the revolver is built like a brick shi...errr outhouse and handles the recoil well. I enjoy the wait while the smoke clears to see where the hole in the target is. Anyway I think we put 25 rounds through it, great fun. Nice to see you have become a brass whore now, lol Glad I was not the only one there worried about getting brass back. Pokey you missed out dude -
Best post on this entire forum in a long long time. Kind of puts in perspective issues over waiting for a HCP or if it is legal to carry in a bar. Congrats on your anniversary.

I will give you one guess. And I bet that is going to leave a mark.

Silver Star Awarded to National Guardsman from North Carolina
Mike.357 replied to Im Neero's topic in General Chat
I followed you Nero, from what I have read and heard about Yeager he is best left under the rock he came from. i do appreciate the narrative about the medal winner. -
I love a good revolver. I am not all into fancy autoloaders. Seems them auto loaders make up about 99% or handgun threads here. I have four revolvers and they are my four favorite handguns. An 1851 Navy .44, a 1858 Remington .44 , a SP-101 .357 and of course the Ruger SAS in .22/.22WMR. The SP-101 gets carried, the others seem more historical to me but they are all shooters. Well the 1851 will be a shooter when it arrives back at home this week. It has been off getting worked on and is coming back to me in shooting order. You mentioned "simple". I will beg to differ on that comment. revolvers are intricate and much more complicated should something go wrong mechanically on it. But I agree in simple as in simple to operate. here are mine in a few different photos

Sorry but I do not see humor in comparing what appears to be a valient and brave soldier with a subtle reference to this Yeager guy. I understand and all but yanno? -
Presidential Candidates' Opinions on Firearms
Mike.357 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
after 12 years of Bush's and 8 years of Clintons in the white house I do not think we are a democratic republic anymore. Seems similar to a royal family(s) running the place. I can't stomach any more years of these families in charge. Obama would be better than a Clinton again. -
Of all the gun mentioned here without a doubt in my mind the Baby Eagle is the best. It is not to big to be concealed. Heck about any gun can be concealed, and a BE is not that big. Great trigger, great sights, hands down the winner. When you are ready to play with the big boys come to John Browning's church!

too light for what? I do not see any need to max out a round just for paper punching or plinking.

Okay, from Midway USA I just finished ordering a Lee Hand Primer, Shell Holder set (11 piece) and Primer Pocket Cleaner. Shipped to my door it was $35. No more hammering primers in for me. I tried to get it from Cabelas but they had it on backorder, was about the same price anyways even though from Cabelas the Primer and Shell holder set came in a package deal. Taking a screwing on shipping I guess but what can you do?

I just looked at the box of Federal Hyda-Shoks for the .357 and it makes no note of it being bonded.

Last time around in '04, I went to vote and asked for a Republican ballot and was denied that. I was told I was registered as a Democrat and it was vote Democrat or issues only. I was told I had to change my registration. I do not recall registering for any specific party but 6 years ago when I first came here I considered myself a Democrat and would have chose that option when registering to vote. Has something changed in voting procedure since '04?

zombies have very poor motor skills, a Mosin might work fine on them provided you can reload with efficiency. I agree that now that the NYT has backed McCain I can't vote for him, not sure I was going to but he is out for sure now. Gotta also love that Billary claims she has experience from her years in the white house. If that is not the most asinine thing I have ever heard I do not know what is. I mean my wife has worked in customer service for years, being married to her does not make me qualifed to do that. Can you imagine someone applying for a job their spouse did and claiming that as a reason why they should be considered a candidate? You would be laughed out of the door. If by some chance she does get elected I am very scared for this country and our rights.

The never ending story- cleaning a Russian Mosin-Nagant
Mike.357 replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I clean my Mosin by using a cheap ammoniated window cleaner. I soak a patch in it. run it through the bore, then a dry one. Repeat this process until it comes out moslty clean. Then i clean the bore one more time using Hoppes. Final step is to run a bore mop with a little rem oil on it in and out a few times. My bore has a mirror like shine on it. I also disassemble the bolt and soak it in the same window cleaner, wipe it down ,re-assemble then drip some Rem oil on that. I use the same window cleaner on a rag to wipe down inside the mag and any place I can reach in the action and frame. No problems here. -
Mars i am with you on the ridiculousness of the voting procedure here in TN. I posted previously how I could not vote due to computer troubles. Now what if these computer troubles happen on election day. People can't just stand around for an hour to wait, especially when they have jobs to get to, kids to pick up. Some workplaces might be lenient but I guarentee you that many would not be. I am going to go Monday and try again. Until I moved here and they began using these ridiculous contraptions I had always voted (Ohio, Illinois and Florida) using the punchcard. Remember the hanging chads? Yes that type of ballot. It was much simpler and I think more reliable. I do not trust this computer voting system we have. Who wrote the software? Who oversees that it actually records votes as they were cast? I do not put it past anyone that shenanigans are involved and the actual vote is scewed or maybe screwed is a better word. I will probably vote for Paul or Obama, not sure yet. I am not sure as I do not know if they will let me have a republican ballot or not.

I look at the primer pocket and if there is crud in it I run a coarse pipe cleaner through it. Maybe mine are slightly set in, never worried about it. They definitely do not stick out. I use magnum primers on the .357's btw.

I will go a bit further with this. The country has been in a steady decline since the 60's. What happened in the sixties? Prayer and corporal punishment was removed from the schools. There is where is started.

I have yet to have a home rolled .357mag round not go bang when I pull the trigger. I do not do anything to my cases other than visually examine them for flaws before reloading them. I do wipe off all the cases once they are reloaded to remove any residual lube. I have never set off a primer while seating it in a .357 mag. The primers do not sit inside the lip of the casing but flush with it. I also have suspended all reloading until the humidity goes up some. Dang static in this house is terrible. I don't know if a static spark would set off powder but I am not chancing it. I also am not reloading anymore until I get a handheld priming tool. I do not mind the Lee loader method but I am not priming that way any more. So James does this mean you got your S&W back from the gunsmith? What was wrong with it and what did they do to it?

Presidential Candidates' Opinions on Firearms
Mike.357 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Since gun owners overall seem to view the elction based on 2A and RKBA there are only two choices. Huckabee or Paul. Everyone else left supports bans and restrictions. Don't lose sleep over the Dem's just yet. There is a lot of time left in this game and the outcome is still very much in doubt. Going off and hording guns or parts will just drive the prices up.
