It never entered my mind that it would not use a pistol primer. The .45 Colt is a pistol round first and foremost isn't it? Heck I don't know, LOL. I want to get some Black Powder cartridges for my '58. I am curious as to if it fouls up near as bad as using percusion caps and powder do. I am thinking a lot of the fouling in the action comes from the caps.

I added the large loop lever to my Henry. It is not as efficient I guess but my hand fits in it better.

there, fixed that for ya

Mike I think you should admit that car you photoshopped was Shadow12's patrol car issued by ORPD.

I did not watch any of todays race. I much prefer the big screen high definition picture the great outdoors had to offer today. I love spring and it is very hard to be on the couch this time of year. I might have it on tomorrow out in the garage as background noise. But mostly I will be tuned into the "real life" channel.

Good, yet inexpensive, blackpowder flintlock kit?
Mike.357 replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I would buy from out of state if possible. The freakin crooks in nashville get enough of my money already. No need to payextra in taxes if I can avoid it. That said I have bought from Dixie many times. -
aha, i found the tang sight from marlbes and there is one for my rifle ,LOL gonna watch the video and see how to put one on the rifle. Well I watched enough of the video to know I do not want to do that myself.
-
Mark where does the tang sight install on the golden boy and who did you order it from? Is the tang on that rifle like my Henry 001 that has a metal tang I am guessing that sight might be held on by the same screw that holds the stock in place. I have read about loading black and how you pretty much fill the cartridge up and leave just enough room to cram a bullet onto it. I would like to learn more.

Most of you know this but a quick review anyway. I bought my grandson a rifle this week. Today I took him out in the woods to my little range and we had a shoot. I went over safety rules with him and made him understand that the gun is always loaded and finger off the trigger. we did this before leavin the house. I know there are 4 rules but those two and supervision are good for today. I went over 5 year old nomenclature with him. He seemed ready so we loaded up the golf cart and went on out. He did good. Took a little bit of coaching and a lot of patience at first. It was hard for him to understand using the peep sight. It would have been very hard for him without the bipod. (I knew there was a reason I picked it up at the gunshow last week.) But after a half dozen shots it seemed to click a little bit for him. He was bored shooting paper as I thought he would be. But I thought it important to try paper first so I could try to teach him sighting the shot. Once we moved on to re-active type targets he fell in love with it. I am guessing we shot for near four hours. I lost track of how many shots he took. Well over 150 I am sure. We would still be out there if not for mosquitos attacking. Also we got the first tick of the season. Yeck I hate them things. Here are two pic I took. One of him sitting and lining up the shot. And the second his smiling puss after he blasted a hole in a can of creamed corn. He made me set the can back up for the pic. We also shot a couple of rubber gloves filled with flour a can of "sketti" O's, and a couple of two liter bottles filled with water. He loved the gloves and tin cans the best. The cans work good as they dance around a bit even after they have been shot a few times. I am guessing he will want to try again tomorrow. If so I am going to work to try to get him holding the rifle more across his body instead of positioned as he was today. If I do that I think his left hand should reach the forestock and it will force his cheek up on the buttstock a little more and help line his eyes up to the sight. But however he wants to roll will work for me.

don't let it beat you mike. Gotta hang tough. I have been jonesing for a smoke bad the last couple of days but I am not going to cave in. I even had a couple of people light up right in my face yesterday too. Both of whom I easily could have bummed a smoke from. But I stayed strong. Each day for me it seems easier to stay strong. It is like if I cave in now I will really wonder why did I put myself through this for the last 17 days. I smoked for 35 years, really life long I guess. My mom smoked while she was prego with me I am sure. Back in the 50's no one was concerned. Dad smoked cigar's, My grandpa smoked. I have had second hand smoke in my lungs since day one, then first hand smoke ever since I was 15. It is almost like losing a brother or a best friend. Of course no brother or best friend would keep your pcokets empty and try to kill you at the same time. So 50 years of smoke is a tough habit to break. But I WILL DO IT!! Stay strong mike. BTW I used to smoke Winston Lights( last 15 years), but over the years I have had all of them probably. Marlboro Red, Lights, Ultra Lights, Merits, Winston red, Winston 100's, Raleigh, Pall Mall. Screw it they are not going to beat me.

I was kind of thinking of a Lee Loader for the .45 LC I still use it for .45acp and .357mags and it works well for me. I don't imagine I will ever load mass quantities of 45 Colts to I think saving on equipment expense might be prudent. I could blaze through 100's of rounds if I felt the urge. But since being re-born back into the Holy Black my "rounds shot" count has dropped way down. but my days shooting have stayed the same. Now if I am in the mood to blaze away I stick to .22's i tell you I have been getting the biggest kick out of the lever action Henry. That gun is flat out fun to shoot.

I miss the "benefactor" status sign!!!
Mike.357 replied to PackinMama's topic in Feedback and Support
thats the ticket alright! -
I don't know how having a gun would help this situation. Don't know that it would hurt but it sounds like they were on these people before anyone could react to it.

I liked the old name better.

If Mark Martin did not win then they don't count

I also must attest that half the pleasure of buying the new rifle was shooting the breeze with Mike and Sam. I might end up in that place just adding to the hot air on a Saturday afternoon sometime, LOL.

Technical Way around Restaurant Carry?
Mike.357 replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Finally I can go out to a decent restaurant without Mars or Phantom as a chaperon!! Seriosuly, I wonder how citing that a BP revolver is not a firearm would hold up in court. -
I thought about applying for one, just not sure if I really need it. Keep us posted about it.

Good, yet inexpensive, blackpowder flintlock kit?
Mike.357 replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Unless you are good working with wood and have a lot of patience i think buying a finished product more advisable. At any rate if you are set on a kit try these places, if you can't find what you want here you are to picky, LOL http://www.possibleshop.com/rifle-kit.htm http://www.trackofthewolf.com/(S(np4wk3451x3fv445h1jrjs55))/categories/catList.aspx?catID=13 -
HAHAHAHA that beast actually has started the last couple of times. I even took it over to my monster in laws and cut her grass Monday. The fun never ends when you are me.

conversion cylinder for my Remington. It shoots .45 LC. I bought some rounds before I found any BP cartridges. I think i have 100 rds yet. If I buy any more pre rolled rounds they will be the Goex cartridges. I don't shoot much of it since they cost a flippin fortune but I love having the capability.

ATF is behind the Maytag store, pretty much right behind it. Dave you should go there and order a gun that will work right out of the box ~

I hope you have never asked him when he will die so you can have all his stuff. I have heard this once or twice already from a five year old. LOL Kids....

I understand about trade secrets. Don't want you to have to kill me or nothing.
