  1. Neero sayd I have abstained in a presidential election before. Yep, left the presidential part of the ballot blank. Doing so was my way of showing disgust for both candidates. Don't know if it much mattered but it made me feel better that day.
  2. I was simply stating a fact, no one has died for my right to vote in a presidential election. If they did they were misinformed.
  3. there is no right to vote in a federal election Interesting thread BTW
  4. I pretty much agree with the OP. I believe I asked the same question a few weeks ago I did vote already though. There are some county issues I was wanting to vote on. I only skipped two votes for judges as I do not know who they are and really a coin toss vote is not the best way to do things. Not really much point in voting around here unless you want to vote republican. Luckily for me the republican candidates are ones I approved of. So they got my approval vote. All polls I have seen in TN on the presidential election have McCain winning in a landslide. So if the polls hold true my vote matters not, though I did vote for McCain. If anything it registers as a vote of dissaproval for BO and his policies. I would say that voting is not a civic duty, or a way to give you the right to bitch. Voting is a way of approving or dissaproving of the incumbents or current ruling party. Go and cast an empty ballot and it is a way of showing disgust or dissaproval for those running for office. In that way we do have a responsibility to participate. Without participation those who are elected have less guidance than if there is a larger percent of voters participating. I think you ought to go vote! No need to shoot yourself just yet.
  5. what happens in Kingsport stays in Kingsport

    Best Pranks

back in the golf days... Assistant pros tend to think they are fair haired pretty boys and above following rules. Nor do they seem to care if they make work for bag attendants. They all seem pretty good at leaving their bags out and about in the bag room instead of stored. I would tell them and warn them that bags should NOT be left out for the boys to work around or trip over. Once warnings were issued I would look the other way if bag staff decided it was time to retaliate. My personal favorite prank was to remove the grip off of 7 iron or pitching wedge. Of course this was not discovered until the club was needed on the course. Another was to fill the gold bag with range balls. Not the ball pocket mind you but the entire area where clubs are normally placed. It is impossible to get you clubs out without removing the balls first. Typically the pretty boy assistant pro would not find out until he was ready to tee off. Of course they always expected the bag staff to load up their bags on a cart. After a dose of this medicine they followed the rules. Ahh the good old days...

    Fulmer Gone!!!

I hope they hire that guy from Maryville High School. Now that would have significant entertainment value right there. I also do not expect they will do that. I just hope if they make overtures to Brian Kelly that he is not interested.

I saw a rattlesnake stretched out across the road in Cades Cove sunning itself a few years ago. Some guy poked it with a really long stick and it moved offf the road. the gawkers were dissapointed that traffic was not stopped for a bear sighting. Mike 5 Chipmonks 0 -2008 death toll so far- i thought that was going to be dinner, I guess you are planning on me being dinner.
  10. cold weather camping is the best. You can always add a sweatshirt or something to get warm. Hot weather camping is the worst, you can only strip down so far, and even then it does not make you much cooler. Daniel is right about something on the ground being key. Even a few pieces of cardboard work. 32 at night sounds just about right for me. Twinkie wrappers on the floor of the tent and I am good to go That or moving blankets, they make good insulation for the tent florr. I use a self inflating sleeping mat. Works perfect. Another good trick is to not sleep in you pants but rather sleep on them, when you put them on in the AM they are nice and warm. Sleeping bags, even inexpensive ones generally keep anyone warm enough. And not sleeeping in all you clothes makes for a better nights sleep. Long johns or sweat pants are good for sleep. Anyone besides me and Daniel going to man up and camp?

I don't need a gun, I just need to be able to out run you. I have seen all kinds of wildlife at Mark's, deer, turkeys, a skunk. I have no doubt that there is more. Where there is something to hunt, predators are probably around. (to stay on topic)
  12. That will certainly make for an interesting Wednesday.
  13. I was thinking a shotgun loaded up might make a good camp gun considering the cat and bear in the area. We should be good to go on firewood. I have a pretty large pile of cut wood here, if I need more I have a working chainsaw and a maul for splitting. A good fire is a tried and true method for critter control. It would be perfect if the weather is as nice as it was this weekend. Mark i will not forget to bring the Browning with me either.
  14. Obama cannot just up and ban guns even if he is the president. But should congress pass some all encompassing bill I am pretty sure he would have an orgasm as he signed it into law.
  15. all I know for sure about that pic is that mark@sea may have a stroke from Colt envy when he sees this picture.

what? that you stayed in the tent?
  17. just as well funded he says. Where is this money coming from? I guess they will fire up the printing presses again. This guy says whatever comes to mind to apease the crowd he is indoctinating. Whats worse is that a lot of people are buying into it.
  18. On the brighter side, I am guessing the pop to the head with the mallet made the poor patient forget about his toothache for a while. And I was hoping for a pirate story where the bg's got the business end of a 50 cal machine gun. Your story was probably more humorous.
  19. myth. it is a beautiful drive and for me only slightly longer than going to OR or Clinton. Gas is relatively cheap now days too. Tower I am guessing you will be deeper in the south in two weeks but I was hoping you all would be there. But too I know how it goes. Suntzu, there was a woodpile by the camping area. Also I can bring some wood from here. My woodpile is not depleted yet. No need to buy wood. I can also bring a propane heater. One word, trioxane I can't take the day off but should be able to bail out early in the afternoon. I will have my stuff packed up in advance so I can leave right from work. We will have to co-ordinate time and such. did you talk Kat into coming? I hope we have a good turnout. Always a lot of fun up there.
  20. Ammunition is not so much the problem as containers of black and smokeless powder. The bigger concern is gasoline stored in the garage as well as the fuel in the various gas powered vehicles and other machinery. I am thinking if I alternated the stocks up and down in the RSC that the long guns might fit easier into the safe. But I am not at maximum density yet. No concern of live rounds cooking off in a rifle as none of them are loaded when stored anyway. I also make use of silicone gunsocks. Ther are great for keeping moisture away as well as providing a buffer between the guns. No dings and dents since I started using them. I have also read testimonials as to where the gun socks protected the weapons in the aftermath of a fire and water used to put out the fire.
  21. there is a reason for everything. First time I ever heard of storing muzzle down. Makes sense I guess if you gob up the gun with oil. As for fireman, the muzzle being up is the least of their concerns should my home go up in flames.
  22. OK, let's add a few more comments. The map above shows I-181. It is now I-26. Coming up to Kingsport on I-81, get off at exit 57 then take I-26 toward Kingsport (go under the bridge before you exit). Go over the ridge past the Meadowview Convention Center and down the steep hill over the big river bridge to the 11-W (Stone Drive) exit This will be the 4th exit after getting on I-26. . Exit .to Stone Drive then turn left under the I-26 bridge and keep going till you go past Wal-Mart and over the river bridge and turn left on Netherland Inn Road, the first traffic light past Wal-Mart. McDonald's is just past this turn. added Directions Once you've turned on Netherland Inn, you will go less than 1/2 mile. Just before crossing the old bridge at Rotherwood Mansion, take a left turn onto Big Elm Rd. Stay on Big Elm. (You will go under 11-W) When the road splits or turns, stay with the river. (The split goes up to the left and down to the right. You want to go down to the right) When you get to a 'T', take a right (staying with the river). You are looking for Clicktown Rd on the right. If you miss it, you'll see a brick church in front of you, eventually, so turn around. Once turning on Clicktown - Go approx 200 feet - the road will T. Take the left (gravel). Drive 1/4 mile. (The road will fork. To the left, up the hill, is a mobile home. Don't go this way. Take the right fork, downhill into the woods.) You will be back on pavement. Stay on the pavement until you see the range on your right. (Mark's driveway is on the left at the lantern) Click here to view this one post to print.
  23. I obtained permission today from mark@sea to utilize his shooting range for our November shoot. The date of the shoot is November 15. Third Saturday just like always. I would like to make this a cool weather camp out as well. Anyway I am planning to camp on Friday night and maybe Saturday night as well if anyone wants to stay Saturday night. I will see if I can talk my wife into making a pot of Chili for lunch on Saturday during the shoot. Shoot start time will be at 11:00 AM. Shoot ends when everyone has had enough trigger time. For those of you that have not been at Mark's this is a range on private property. There are pistol lanes and a hundred yard rifle range. I will post up some driving direction in a little bit. From Knoxville it is roughly a 90 odd minute drive from Knoxville Center Mall to Mark's place in Kingsport.
  24. a Mauser would be too obvious
  25. i am very curious as what the rifle is now. I thought a 1917 is what they told me when I asked.
