  1. I have played Cornhole for years, have a set of boards in the garage. It is real big in Cincinnati, a lot of the bars have cornhole matches. It has taken the place of horse shoes at a lot of spots. Anyone want to play? Come on over.
  2. lots of great ideas, thanks. Dunno what they are planning now. The wife had her knee scoped this past Wednesday and anything involving much walking it out. As long as we get to do the gun shopping and shooting Thursday I am good with whatever else happens. ( hen free day Thursday!) Here is where we are shooting at. Rio Salado Sportsmans Club We shot there last year, coolest range I have ever been to. Scottsdale is not that far away, if there is time I will suggest running up to their gun club.
  3. the battle for Guadalcanal was fought from August 7, 1942 and February 9, 1943. Garands were in action in the Marines at that time. From reading I have done a lot of Marines, (old school types) kept their Springfield bolt rifles as they were much more accurate than the Garand. The water cooled .30 cal machine guns were very much in use. Marines did not get the latest and greatest weapons first, the Army did. Watching it again now
  4. I use the grease I have on hand which is Polaris All Season grease. It is purple in color and I believe it is marine grade. Slippery stuff and a little goes a long ways. Kind of like the old Brylcream commericals " a little dab will do you". If I had generic axle grease I would've used that. Grease is grease pretty much. I use it on all my guns that I dab a little grease on. On the 1911 I use a little bit on the rails and on the barrel lugs
  5. what a knucklehead
  6. I am leaving for AZ Wednesday morning, coming back Monday. I have been there two other times. Any of you been there and have any advice on things to do or places to see? I went to Tombstone last year, not so impressed. I want to go back as I think I must have missed the big attraction there or something. Supposed to go gun shopping (for my son) and shooting Thursday. Then going to Goodyear Friday to see a Reds baseball game. Other than that there are no iron clad plans. Basically I am wide open Saturday and Sunday. Anyone been to both Monument Valley/4 Corners and the Grand Canyon? Which is better, won't be time for both. Anyone have any ideas?
  7. yeah, well make up your own poll.
  8. what little I know about a 1911 I learned here and from Mark@sea. Greasing the rails instead of oiling I learned specifically from Mark and Verbal Kint. I only have a basic GI style RIA 1911 and it used to be totally unreliable. I wasted money on a couple of Wilson mags, as I was encouraged that these would solve feed issues. Well they did nothing to solve problems. Once I used grease instead of oil the gun became pretty much 100% reliable with FMJ or JHP ammo, even semi wad cutters feed good through it. I use regular 7 round GI mags in it for the most part, the Wilson mags work now too. No upgrades either, mine is the way JMB intended.
  9. wilson mags did not cure the woes of my 1911.
  10. so which one of these dead horses gets whipped the most or gets the worst beating?
  11. I thought that it was great enterntainment and a good depiction of what they have shown so far. It is not BoB and should not be compared to it. Though I am sure that a comparison is what will happen. This series will grow on you I am guessing. Can't wait to rewatch episode 1 and what else is to come.
  12. I hope the grief for you is short lived and the love for your uncle never leaves you.

    HBO "Pacific"

this starts tonight, 9:00 EDST I just got off the phone with Comcast and have added HBO to my channel line up for the mere cost of 9.95 a month for six months. The lady on the phone said they have experienced a ton of people adding HBO for the purpose of watching The Pacific. Can't wait for it to come on.
  14. leave the mags loaded, it seems to me that doing this helps makes things better. Also have you lubed the gun properly? Grease what slides and oil what twists or pivots. My 1911 used to jam until I was educated on using grease not oil on the slide.
  15. Walmart Walker Springs has some Federal 9mm Thursday. I am sorry I did not call and see if you wanted it. My bad.
  16. I dunno about Kimber but I have several 1911 mags with a raised point on the top of the follower. I always assumed it was to add strength to the part.

    suggestions

you gave no age of the child. But I bought my grandson a Savage Cub mini youth single shot rifle when he was five years old. It is a great rifle and he took right to it. Even a mini youth rifle was too long for him to hold and fire so I put a bipod on it and had him shoot it sitting down. The rifle has a rear peep sight and it was very easy to teach him sight picture and cheek weld. He has shot thousands out of it and I have shot hundreds of rounds out of it and it is very accurate and every bit as reliable and quality made as any other Savage rifle. Not the POS cheap feel of a Chipmunk or other $100 little kid rifles. No stupid cocking knob just a regular bolt action. Here is a link to it Savage Arms Firearms > Cub Good luck , sounds like fun times
