  1. well duh It certainly was not Alaska And FWIW I would love to see an entire series based on Puller's career.
  2. because the teacher commented on how nice the Obama picture was:shrug: These are kids here, I doubt the Obama picture was drawn any better than the flag picture was.
  3. this past Friday local radio had Senator Tim Burchett on the air about his run for Knox County Mayor. He commented how they had two or three more weeks to go. Sounded to me that they would be there through next week at least.
  4. lots of comment to respond to in this thread now. I am not going to quote anyone so I will just let it fly. IMHO this is every bit as good as BoB. Pacific tells the story of 3 Marines, not an entire Company. The Pacific went into much more detail about Sledge, Leckie and Basilone. In the first episode we saw Sledge and his homelife, Leckie's trip to church and his neighborhood girl. We had NONE of this stuff in BoB. Basilone we did not learn so much about until Episode 8. And there is no way to aptly show what he did on the Canal, They could have done an entire 10 episodes on that place alone. I think they did show that what he did was above and beyond. Chesty Puller is not a major player in this story. If had had written a book there would be more. Also he is not important in the telling of the story of the three major players here. What the Japs did in China is not part of this series either. It is unimportant to the story. The Pacific tells the story of three battles through the eyes of three Marines. Heck I had never heard of Peleliu ( sp) other than a series of Survivor. What an awful place that was. That battle should rank right up there with Iwo Jima. Except for the fact that it was a waste of time and resources. As it could have just been bypassed basically. Put that fault on Macarthur. As for atrocities that played a part in this series the battle at Okinawa showed plenty. One scene that struck me the most was the Jap soldier dragging a woman by the hair to insure she was killed in their attack. the hatred of the Marines toward the Japs was very evident all through this series. In BoB we did not see atrocities until they found a concentration camp. They did not depict the slaughter of Army prisoners, and rightfully so as it had nothing to do with the story. The development of Sledge in this series is incredible. How he went from someone wanting to enlist to being changed from the entire experience of being at war. They also showed how he went from being a new guy to being a leader of sorts. I am looking forward to how they portray his experience of going home. They have also made it very clear of the brutality of war and how it affected the men. Even a hardnose like Gunny Haney cracked. We saw just about none of this in BoB. I am sure guys in the 101st cracked in a similar manner but that was never addressed other than one character. We have it now 6 times or more in Pacific. Also BoB the characters were in the entire series. In The Pacific Marines rotated in and out of the theater of war. To me comparing the two series is like apples and oranges. I assume it has to do with the vast difference in time frames involved.
  5. i do not understand how throwing mud and crud at the well is going to stop the flow. I know what they are saying but I do not see it working.
  6. Nicely put Phantom. My no vote comment was strictly aimed the outcome of the vote on the legislation. The repubs would have been foolhardy to vote for it even if they really did want it. I did see yesterday on the news that a Tea Party guy defeated a standing republican senator in Utah in their version of a primary.
  7. as a vendor at recrent gun show told me " were you happy with it when you bought it? Did you think you had a good price? Stay in the happy place" I took his advice.
  8. I figured it was mass quantities of Dawn dish washing detergent. Works great on grease and is not harmful to septic systems. And the Gulf is sort of a septic system.
  9. no offense taken Nashvegas and thanks for the support Phantom
  10. some guys have all the fun
  11. In my case I had originally spoken to an attorney on another board. He had no monetary interest in my case. I was advised by him to have it taken care of properly. Thats what i did. Money well spent. The guy from the other board used Lautenberg laws as the reason. You never know if or when a law will be passed that punishes you for something done in the past. IE: pay the fine and move on. Then one day a law gets passed that inhibits your rights because of the past problem. Anyway thats why I followed through in the manner I did.
  12. so if you liked the original bag why would you cancel the order over a two week wait? Do you need it right away?
  13. I just counted. I have 44 tires I need to maintain air in. But I would be suprised if I ran that compressor 5 hours in a year. a couple of minutes or so a couple of times a month. so probably not even a 5 hours a year ,LOL
  14. I may well be wrong but i had thought they jumped with folding stocks, and later used Garands when they jumped from truck tailgates. Beautiful rifle anyway.
  15. she was right on with her speech, I also believe the the Tuscon city council could care less what she said.
  16. I would guess there is a fair chance we will go next weekend too.
  17. Okay, I have never tried to use air tools off of mine, but it claimed it would run small ones, dunno. But it keeps up with filling tires which is 95% of what I use it for. If I need air tools I take it to a professional And I just looked, my tank is only 6 gallons. I dunno why I thought it was bigger. I guess I need to pay attention to labels on it, LOL. CFM is 3.4@40 and 2.7@90 according to the label. And it is a Rockworth not a Rockwood.
  18. thats real nice. Stay away from me.
  19. Got to watch things closely, we changed to Saturday a couple of pages ago when it was pointed out Sunday is Mother's Day. Sorry you did not see it.
  20. Mine must be different that what you guys speak of. It only takes a minute or so to fill, and i rarely bleed it dry when using it. What is considered a big tank?
  21. I do not want to say you are wrong Oldguy but I have a compressor and it plugs right into any wall socket. got mine at Northern Tool. I think the brand is a Rockwood. Brand is irrelevant really for a compressor costing slightly more than 100 bucks. It has a 20 gallon air tank. Size is about 18 inches high x 24 inches long x 8 inches wide. ( rough estimate) I use to air up tires, and blow debris off of things. I have a lot of tires that take air around here. It claims it will work on 3/8 airtools but I have no need to mess with that stuff. I have had it for four or five years and it has given faithful service. It is not a pancake type, but looks rather standard. i really don't know how I would get by without it.
  22. when this type of stuff happens to me on the road I always try to tell myself that the other guy's wife or Mother must have been rushed to a hospital and that is why he is going at breakneck speed. Seems to help me let it all go. I get aways from maniacs on the highway. The further away from me they get the better I feel.
  23. All of the no-shows missed a glorious day at the range. A little windy but really the weather was just spendid. No big crowds, we had the rifle range to ourselves for quite a bit of time. Which is great for checking targets when ever we saw fit to do so. Pretty much cpent the whole day working on marksmanship. Only three of us TGO'ers in attendance but after going up to Norris a few times a month for the last year there are always people there I am acquanited with. And all of them seem to be really good guys and there is a lot of comaraderie. I was shooting a recent rifle acquisition and it was shooting way left. I commented to a guy up there about the rifle. He produced a sight tool and I got my rifle right on target. Shot a bunch of .22 which is always satisfying and a mess of x39. Even had a three shot group from the Garand at 125 yards that would have fit into a .50 cent piece. The wind made the challenge even more fun. Can't wait to do it again.

    NRA Rant

I totally agree with what you are saying. But you paid 30 bucks ( or thereabouts). The postage of what they send you over the year is a few bucks. Add every member's dues up and what is left after postage is quite a lot of cash. I am not thrilled with the NRA but I am not sure what game in town is better to support.
