As for the "ask for picture ID" thing, I may be wrong but I think the card has to be signed to be valid for use. Of course my cards all have "pic ID only" or something similar written on the back and are not signed. Never been refused service on them and I almost always get asked to present ID. And I always thank the clerk for asking.

a business can accept any ID they so choose. All they cannot do it refuse my ID and then accept the same thing from the next guy. They can not discriminate. Other than that they can tell me to pound sand.

when I did retail wine and spirits, my main concern was verifying who I was selling to was 21 or older. I did not care of the ID was expired as long as it belonged to the customer. I cannot imagine that a HCP is not a valid for m of ID.
