  1.     was you Dad a gun guy?  If so what was his style?  Was he old school, revolver?  Or new school?  An auto loader.  Did he care about guns at all?  Did he hunt?   from your OP it is hard to give an answer.   Maybe he was a car guy.  Maybe he loved his lawn mower.     My Grandpa did not love guns or lawnmowers as far as I know.   He loved gardens, he always had one.  Who's memory are you honoring? Just saying....   Why was he about Ruger's?  I like some guns.  Is a gun what life life was about?   Are you manufacturing a reason to buy a gun?   I am so sorry for your loss.  Do what makes it whole for you.
  2. I was referring to Turtledove, but your post makes me ready to got the library and look for Phillip K. Dick books.
  3. thanks Mac.  I thought of you before I ever opened this thread.   I prefer Purple Panthers.   http://www.elderhs.org/
  4.     wish I could dislike this.  Family comes first.  You don't get to pick them.  You do get to pick what you prefer to do. Live with all consequences.
  5.     it is your brother.  To steal a line from "Tombstone" you back your brother's play.   Talk to him and let him know you want to carry concealed when you visit.  If he is against it you back his play rather then him back your play.     I ask,  do you feel unsafe in his hood?  Do you really feel you will be invaded upon in his home?   Life is not always about the damn gun.
  6.     IIRC we are around thirty bucks for that rum.   I don't recall it when I lived in Florida.  Our markup does not make anyone rich.  In our store it is about volume of sales.   We sell way way more than anyone else because the boss is fair and reasonable with markup.  I assume it is less in Florida due to the lack of sales tax and their sin tax is most likely way less than here in the Baptist belt.      And since we are on the topic of markup,  McSomebodies store and the one on the north side of that interstate exit by the same name (cedar bluff exit) advertised a Black Friday sale on whisky.  The bulk of what they advertised was BTAC product. Every item they had in their "sale"  (read rip off ad) was roughly three times of our shelf price.  Granted getting is from us is hard.  We cater to our regular customers who spend bank week in and week out.  They and other stores are flat out offering it up and bending you over if you are so desperate to buy. Anyone who bought from them deserves just what they got.   My biggest complaint as far as rum goes is what used to come from Venezuela.  The Pampero line of rum.  Since their political problems there is exactly none coming out of there.  It pisses me off as a rum fan.  They (IMHO) had the best rum in the market. Now there is none.
  7.     Your synopsis really makes me hope for another season.   The final episode blew my mind.  Loved the scene in the hunting cabin, then the phone call.   I want to know what happens to Smith's son.   The final solution has really evolved.  What the doctor told Smith and what he tried to give him was something else.  That alone needs to play out.
  8.   the library can be your friend.  I read almost all of his works through the library.
  9. OS?
  10. thanks Bersa!   I find it intolerable that our rights as defined in the BoR  can be restricted on someone's whim and no one is held accountable.   Fine, you own property and want no guns there.  That is your right.  But when does your right become more important than my right? And it makes my head spin when people actually believe that restricting rights makes us safer anywhere.
  11. why not give a review of what the story is about?    Nothing personal against you Bersa but i can't stand it when someone just throws up a link
  12. thanks for the heads up Dave,  I'll pass
  13.     I don't know who Bob Johnson is
  14. I am in
  15. I am not sure they could do a second season.     And that made me think that the Axis did not win, that the war only went as we know it to have gone.  And maybe Tagomi was imaging a reality that the show presented.   Why were the Americans collecting the movies and sending them to "the man in the high castle"  ( calling him that so as to not ruin that for people who did not watch yet.)   I really found it all confusing and want to re watch it.   If anyone is into revisionist history then read books by Harry Turtledove.   I have read a lot of his work and the books are impossible to put down.  Guns of the South was impossible to put down and is a stand alone book.  He also did a series that had the South winning the war and WW2 playing out in north America.
  16.     maybe if you gave more detail into what the officer did....   And being Thanksgiving this is near the slowest day annually on the board.
  17. I watched it but need to re watch it.   It left me very confused as to what was going on, especially the end.  I keep thinking I must have missed something along the way that makes it all make sense.
  18. gift certificate to Dunkin Donuts?  ;)
  19.     I like to keep it short and to the point!
  20. The boss hooked us up today.  A Thanksgiving bottle.   I chose Mount Gay Eclipse Rum.  It is out of Barbados. A liter bottle. It's freaking awesome.  I have not had it in years.     Why did I wait so long?
  21. Screw Allah.
  22. Drink the stuff, maybe in moderation and on special occasions but I do not know what the purpose is to have it and not open it.  It won't spoil.   Enjoy
  23.     or people who may get killed by them
  24. If I was going out to confront a unknown vehicle I'd definitely be armed.  Why wouldn't you be?  Armed is not the same as shooting.   I don't want a drunk driver in my driveway.  That SOB is likely to hit a tree trying to get away.   I am not a huge fan of the kid's dog but she is a good early alert.
  25. PM inbound Mrs Monkey.  ( give me a second to write it and send it.)
