  1. I keep wondering how the hell we can even consider starting another massive gov't program without first fixing the huge we we already have: Social Security. Too many promises, no credible source of funding, yada yada.
  2. Sort of like the justification for the 9/11 attacks?
  3. Moody, here are some pictures of mine: I'd be happy to meet you at the range some time and let you try it out.
  4. I have the EMP, which is a purpose-built 9mm. I originally went to that because I was trying to consolidate calibers. Even though I'm not still on that path, I plan to keep the EMP. I've shot it a bunch and I really, really like it. If you have specific questions about it, I'm glad to answer.
  5. That's probably why it's taking so long--I'm guessing he's having to spend HOURS in Photoshop.
  6. No. You just need to be safe, have basic skills, be willing to take feedback from the instructors and other students, and have a good attitude. I see you are in Monteagle? We have a cabin there, and I belong to the hunting club in Tracy City. Have you been to it?
  7. A bunch of us from TGO took Todd and Dustin's Advanced Concealed Carry course today, as part of the CIS course offering. It was held on the range at Smyrna's NG base. I've been through a lot of training in various other disciplines, and with that background I thought it was excellent. Friendly, relaxed, substantive, safe. Above all the learning was layered so that we were typically only working on one or two things at once. I'm completely new to concealed carry and I was a below average student, but I learned a lot. I'm not necessarily more skilled now, but I sure understand it better and know what to work on. I'm a little tired from being in the sun that long, but I'm really glad I took it. I thought it was a terrific course and they did a really, really good job. Every question that was asked received an answer, and then an explanation on WHY that particular answer. Thanks, guys. I appreciate all the work you put into it and your patient teaching style.
  8. That's bullsh1t. The customer always has the power, but they are not always right. The only time the customer is always right is if it's the right kind of customer. BTW, you haven't sent your money in yet to support the web site?
  9. Congratulations, Jason!
  10. Some of us SHOULD wear hats, like probably me. It's almost gone.
  11. My youngest, Nathan, shooting the Steyr .308 Scout. Westwind Mike and Sidewinder sighting Sidewinder's Ruger. Nathan again, this time with the Savage .204 Ruger. Westwindmike. Sidewinder lying to Westwind Mike, telling him he hasn't hit the target yet. Sorry--can't remember his name. He'll be at the class tomorrow. He reads the board, but I don't think he posts. He's shooting a Bushmaster AR in 9mm. Me on the .204. Ditto.
  12. Except for Dumb and Dumber sighting that rifle in. Nice to meet you today, Mike.
  13. It does cost a little extra for the custom serial number: $150. That's a little high compared to other gun manufacturers, by the way. But I've never figured out a way to combine "smart" and "gun purchases" yet. Still working on it.
  14. Yes, his daughter was very nice. She's the one who helped me. Seemed knowledgeable about guns, too.
  15. Yes. My initials are DCB, or 432 in terms of alphabet positions. But I didn't want to put anything on it that a buyer (if I ever sold it) would make the gun not their own, so I came up with that. My initials are hidden in there, but anybody else wouldn't see that. Plus, I liked the ring of: five-four-three-two-one-bang
  16. Yes, I had to buy one box of ammo. But after that I could shoot anything I wanted, including what I brought. So it's not about safety--it's about sales.
  17. Thanks, Joe. Can't wait to get back to your store, too. I've only been there once, but that trip cost a lot of money, so I'm hesitant to go too often.
  18. Just an honest opinion, unswayed by whatever went on in the past. I'm too new here to know what all that was about, and I haven't researched it. But I DO have another gun on order with you, if you'd ever get it in.
  19. Joe, I check on prices, and the amount I would have saved didn't seem worth the hassle of the go-between, since there were so many custom issues. Maybe I should have done some more thorough checking, like called you all. Oops.
  20. Like it quite a bit. Very well made and easy to swap. The only hesitation I have about them is that the gun doesn't hang straight down and moves around a bit more than I'd like. With a trigger pull of 48.6 lbs, I don't worry about the trigger being covered.
  21. Yes indeed. "Just say no to crack."
  22. Here's the tale of an Ed Brown. I spent a couple of months deciding between an Ed Brown and a Wilson Combat, and opted for the former. I've been a little nervous at how few mentions there are of Ed Browns in relation to Combat Wilsons, but I don't mind being in the minority, and I liked how easy it was to customize the order and get exactly what I wanted. Plus, I was very impressed with their customer service and accessibility. So, here's an account of the birth and life of an Ed Brown. I'll update this thread from time to time. 2009/07/22--After my own research, called Ed Brown and had a long conversation about the options. They patiently answered every question. I settled on an Executive Target with a few options. 2009/07/23--Called that morning with my order, and Renea promised an email with a confirming PDF that same day. It did indeed arrive, and I signed the order and included a check, all sent to Perry, MO. 2009/07/27--Renea called explaining that there was a mistake on the order than neither of us caught. Namely, you can't combine a bobtail and a maxi-well. Duh. She asked if I wanted a refund of the difference. I said no, just throw in an extra mag or two. 2009/07/31--After three nights of inefficient perusal of VZ Grips' website, I knew what I wanted. Called Candi and she took the order. They said they'd need two-three weeks, but it didn't take that long. Anyway, at least when the gun arrives, I'll have the grips all ready. 2009/08/07--Grips arrive. They look great. 2009/08/10--Via email, I receive a "proof" of the gun. I wasn't expecting one and didn't even know they did that, but it's like seeing an ultrasound of your baby, I guess. Not really, but it's cool to see the serial number in place and see the machining artifacts. Stay tuned....
