  1. It would be fun to see the looks you'll get going through security at the airport with one of those!
  2. I'm thinking Kimber Ultra Carry II with laser grip. It meets the criteria, though I'm not sure it's light enough. I just weighed mine, and with a full magazine it weighs 30.45 oz. That's not very light. It's really nice to carry, though.
  3. This isn't the way to handle it, and it's terrible form to post the contents of a private note without permission. It's better to go back and forth calmly instead of escalating it.
  4. A higher percentage of Wal-Mart employees have health insurance than Starbucks employees.
  5. I asked my spinal surgery how quickly I could go back to shooting after having a double fusion and a mess of titanium placed inside me a few weeks ago. His eyes lit up, he asked me what I had, and we had a good ol' discussion about what I could and could not shoot. I never pegged him for an avid shooter, but that was cool.
  6. Welcome from Nashville!
  7. Congratulations...and thanks for the picture! When you post more pictures, I'd love to see the EMP next to something for size reference.

    What is this?

It's really a fun gun. I had a PS90, so since they shoot the same ammo, I figured I'd get the FiveseveN. It comes with 20-round mags, and you can get extensions that make it 30 rounds. The gun has very little recoil, is very accurate, and simple to clean, but has some serious muzzle flash.
  9. That's good. So you're saying I can't be an instant expert? I thought that's what happened in America!
  10. This grouping was Hornady V-Max 40 grain.
  11. Thanks--like you said, no specific answers, but just those questions are very helpful to me. They raise some points I hadn't thought of, like eye relief and cheek weld. I did notice that just moving my head a tiny bit changed the POA even if the gun was steady. Good to know that the wind wouldn't have been messing with the bullet, too. So maybe that's a decent start and I just need to pay a lot more attention to consistency.
  12. I'd like a little help with perspective on some longer range stuff. This is my first time to shoot anything at 100 yards, and the first time I'd shot this gun, but I was expecting tighter groups. I just don't know if my expectations are whacky, the gusty winds might have affected this, or my technique sucks. The machine: Savage 12 Long-Range Precision Varmint Dual .204 Ruger w/ Leupold VX3L 6.5-20x56 The scope was new, too, so I started by sighting it in. At 50 yards, I couldn't even get it on the target. So I stepped back to 25 yards, took the bolt out, sighted manually through the barrel, found the target, and so on. Then back to 50 and out to 100. There were light gusty winds, and after trying both 32-grain and 40-grain Hornady, I settled on the 40-grain because it was a lot more consistent. After getting it sighted in, I then shot three rounds at 100 yards: If my calculations are correct, this is ca. 1.25 MOA. Surely I can do better than that, right? I would think the gun is easily capable of better. Maybe it's a matter of breaking in the barrel, a little less wind, and better consistency on my part? This is new to me.
  13. Welcome from Nashville!
  14. I keep a spreadsheet, so it's easy to know at any point how many rounds of what I have.
  15. Welcome! I was shooting at OnTarget today during that awful storm. You'll enjoy TN.
  16. A shooting buddy of mine has a .22 with a suppressor, and he does the same in his backyard. I don't imagine any neighbor could hear that. The action is louder than the report of the bullet.
  17. After recovering from some spinal surgery, I went out to the range today for the first time. After I got back in the groove, I ran the target down to 25 yards. Here were the last two 10-round groupings. All from a Browning Buckmark .22 LR, bone stock (with an Aimpoint). I just really enjoy shooting this gun:
  18. The other thing you might try is Craigslist. There are TONS of rings on there for sale, from people who have changed their minds.
  19. Hah! That was pretty funny. Apparently my brain hasn't returned to normal, either.
  20. I'm going to try to make it. Not sure if it'll happen, though, as I'm recuperating from some significant spinal surgery. If I do come, it'll be more to watch and meet you folks rather than shoot myself. I can bring a PS90, FiveseveN, Cooper LTV, and Savage 12 .204 if anybody wants to try them. I'll know for sure by Friday.
  21. Welcome, also from Nashville!

    Snake!

I thought this thread was going to be about bore snakes!
  23. Nice shots. I love the looks of that Beretta.
  24. As long as you're open to a .380, I'd look at the Sig P232. I didn't see that suggested yet, and it's really a well made gun that points well and feels terrific in your hand (be sure to hold it with a magazine in place, as the lip at the bottom helps with the grip). If you're in the area and want to shoot mine, I'll be glad to meet you at the range. I can also loan you a box of .380 indefinitely, as I have plenty.
  25. Go back and read the post again, please. I didn't say it made sense as a replacement for a shotgun. Obviously it isn't, given how much more it costs. I said it made sense (for me) as a replacement for a carbine AND a shotgun. Taken together, it was about the same amount of money I was going to spend, and I just threw the idea out in case he was also considering the same thing.
