Hey I'm just impressed it's a new Mossberg design that doesn't have an M4 stock, chainsaw grip, or muzzle brake from a .50BMG. :pleased:

Was your dad an armed forces vet? If so (hell, even if not), one of the CMP surplus 1911s would be an awesome tribute. Don't know how long those are going to take to actually become available though.

Like I said before, I'm not buying until I can get a TN marked one.

The G19 is going to be easier to carry, and give up very little in capacity/shootability to the larger gun. However, I'd go to a rental range and shoot everything I could before I'd make a purchase decision.

They're selling at/near MSRP right now because it's new and people have been waiting for awhile. I predict eventual "street prices" around $8-900, which is pretty much what people are paying for the SIG aluminum guns. Honestly, given their longevity, the market has made guns cheaper than they probably ought to be. (Which is a good thing!) Even a modest shooting schedule will shoot most guns' purchase price worth of ammunition pretty quickly.

To me, it seems a little pricey for what it is, but certainly sexy looking. Were I looking for a "ranch/truck/deer rifle", I would probably think cheap and lighter (several bolt actions from Ruger, Savage, etc. come to mind), or autoloader... you can find and/or build an AR pattern gun in .308 for about the same money as the Gunsite Scout.

Hornady Critical Defense 00 Buck - Is the Bomb.com
dcloudy777 replied to jmevis's topic in Long Guns
I gotcha... just yanking various chains. :pleased: My shotgun is pretty far down the "depth chart" for social use, but it is there. I actually like the Federal 000 2.75" 8-pellet load. It patterns like a dream out of my gun. -

You could just get a rifle you know.... -
No, it just means you weren't afraid to learn trigger control.
-
I was at a match a couple of months ago and shot with a guy that had a P320 that had some trigger work done. Easily the nicest striker-fired non-P7 trigger I've ever shot.

Concealed Carry Memphis Zoo

Well there you go... you don't even need to carry your gun. -
When/if I can buy a Tennessee-marked M9A3 I'm gonna.

Not worth it, IMHO. Outside of hard barrier penetration, the "gains" you get from pushing the modern 9mm JHP a couple hundred FPS faster just aren't there. You still get almost the exact same performance in tissue. And you lose a round or two in capacity, increase recoil a bit, your practice ammo cost goes up, and platform choices are limited.

Just one step closer down the road to Bullseye shooting with goofy vests. :yuck: Are they going to negate everyone's classifications now? Or recalculate them?
-
Just buy the cheapest AK you can find and blast cheap steel-cased ammo though it for fun at the range. AKs are fun range toys. Spending anything more than "range toy" money on one (or putting an AK in anything more than a "range toy" role) is, IMHO, not a great idea.
-
Ruger does their LCR in 9mm. Taurus does one, but they aren't great. Smith used to do the 940, but they're long out of production and bring crazy money nowadays.
-
I've pretty much replaced my J-frame with a SIG P938 as a backup gun, but I don't pocket-carry it. IMHO, there's still nothing better than the hammerless J-frame for the pocket. Autos just aren't shaped as well for it.
-
Shoot both as much as you can and stick with the one you shoot better. I like the M&P because the funky Glock grip angle just doesn't do it for me. There isn't a nickel's worth of difference between the "performance" of either. Or among dozens of other modern designs, to be honest.

Best selection of 20 gauge home defense shotguns in middle TN?
dcloudy777 replied to Joe86's topic in Long Guns
Ammo selection is a bigger problem than gun selection for the "social" 20 gauge. There really just isn't a whole lot of defensive ammo options in 20... And none of what's available is anything to write home about. If you're really set on a shotgun for defensive purposes (IMHO rifles are way, way better for this sort of thing, but that's a whole other thread), I'd strongly recommend the 12 gauge. There's a ton more good ammo choices, many of which are reduced-recoil stuff that's as easy on the shooter as a 20. -
How do you resize primed brass? Or do you?
dcloudy777 replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The de-priming pin is replaceable isn't it? That means you should just be able to take it out and use the size die to just re-size, fix the brass, then put the pin back in. -
J-frame + $25 bucks worth of Apex and about 10 minutes = as good as a little 5-shot snubbie gets.

The little slide-mounted "micro" red dot sights just seem to keep getting better and tougher, and a lot of people with not-so-hot eyesight are reporting that the are very helpful.

Trijicon has dropped a bomb on Aimpoint...
dcloudy777 replied to dcloudy777's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I got a chance to look though (but not shoot, unfortunately) a couple of production examples this weekend at the Pro-Am. Good stuff, from what I could tell. It looked like pretty typical Trijicon optical and build quality. The dot was super clean at all brightness levels, and it just exuded that Trijicon "toughness". The Trjicon rep (who was also an optics vendor) did indeed confirm that they are going to sell for right at $550 WITH a mount. I actually hope they offer a 4 MOA dot version as well. -
So basically it's a single shot 7.62 Tokarev, with a built-in short range flamethrower.... :pleased:
-
https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product1.php?id=MRO Street price is going to be around 5 bills with mount... 5-year battery life at medium setting, NV compatible, fully waterproof, 2 MOA dot, made in the USA. If this has typical Trijicon quality, the T1 and pricey new T2 Micro is in serious trouble.
