  1. Nice.  Needs more P7 and P9.
  2.   It has an upright, comfortable riding position, wide bars and a ridiculous (240!!!) rear tire... but that's pretty much where the "cruiser" part ends.  162 HP puts the chap-wearing crowd in the rearview mirror pretty quick, and I'm actually amazed at well such a big bike does in the turns.  It's really more of a sportbike for tall fat guys... like me!
  3. Good article... I could have done without the silly "we spend too much on the military" isolationist paragraph jammed into the middle, seemingly for no reason, but overall a very good read.
  4. Ducait Diavel... man I wish it would warm back up.

    Barrel Upgrade?

The only thing you can do to increase heat "resistance" is buy a heavier contour barrel, but don't sweat it.  By the time you wear out an AR barrel you'll have spent thousands of doallars in ammo anyway, a new barrel will just be a drop in the bucket.  As far as full mag dumps and trashing the barrel with too much heat through sustained fire... the gas tube will go way before the barrel.
  6. There are plenty of Molle-compatible pouches for submachine gun mags that should work just fine, just look for UZI or MP5 pouches.
  7. Handled one at SHOT... very nice.  Smart taking the "M&P route" and going with a 10-round mag and a much slimmer grip (it felt barely wider then the 220) rather than the Glock/Para/FN route and making a 14 round 2x4 with a trigger.  If they ever do a 227 model like one of the super nice SAO 220s, I might buy.
  8. I saw this at SHOT... definitely cool engineering, but I have to wonder about what kind of market research SIG did before building this.  I'm just not sure what the target market is supposed to be.  The subgun is all but gone in military use, and rapidly fading out of LE use as well.  I'm sure there will be some buyers for a US-legal version, but even if they do manage to get one imported, it will be expensive, and competing against rifle caliber stuff just in like the Mil/LEO market.  One possible thought is that the Russians have been doing some pretty cool stuff with AP 9mm ammo... it's possible that such ammo would allow for a gun like this to compete with PDWs like the P90 and MP7... I don't know.  I wouldn't kick one out of my gun safe, but I'm perfectly happy with my 9mm AR pattern gun.
  9. I think I'll be at the adjacent club range tomorrow, I might have to come say hello.     DanO
  10. Statistically, one of the most effective ways to avoid being the victim of a violent crime is to avoid criminal activity.
  11. I don't know about the mattress... but if you find yourself in a gunfight in your bedroom, it's probably too late to worry much about cover....
  12. If you're going the forend rail route, take a look at the Inforce WML.  http://www.inforce-mil.com/rifle-carbine-lights.php
  13. Three excellent pistols, but the CZ is the best by a mile.
  14. Punitive Expedition 2.0 is long overdue....
  15. I doubt that it was intentional, but this bill as written would also protect short-barreled rifles and shotguns, as long as they're semiauto...
  16. The Brian Enos forum (THE go-to forum for USPSA, 3-gun, and other action shooting disciplines), has a specific XD subforum, I'm sure you can find everything you need there... the XD is a pretty popular gun to customize these days.    http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=207   DanO
  17. Knowing what I know about the way government employees think, I think this the primary motivation for TDOS taking Yeager's permit.  Can you imagine the backlash if James did blow a gasket next week and shoot up the Capitol or some such?  And he still had a valid HCP after posting that video?
  18. The TDOS has not (at least publicly) accused Yeager of breaking any law.  His permit was suspended because TDOS determined that he posed a "material likelihood of risk of harm to the public".  Yeager's very well-documented track record of open duel challenges, back-breaking threats, and this latest diatribe is a pretty easy sell to your average jury member that he represents just such a threat.  I'm not saying it's right, but that's the way it is.     DanO
  19. Buy the Nordic Components tube, they have info on their website about how to choose the correct length, and nobody makes better stuff.  They also have a mag tube clamp with a Picatinny rail.  Dont buy the tube for the Benelli M1/M2... it's different, the Nova tube is also listed as the tube for Beretta shotguns.  Brownells has all of in stock as of right now.      DanO
  20. Good advice here so far.  I'll add a few of my thoughts:     Ammo.... just buy whatever 00 or 000 buckshot you can find cheaply.  All 2.75" buckshot does an excellent job of stopping threats, and the differences between loads is pretty minimal.  I would also recommend finding an inexpensive slug (no sabot slugs, they need rifled barrels), and shooting a few to learn the point of impact at 25, 50, and 100 yards out of your gun.  I don't keep slugs loaded in my defense shotguns, but I do like having 2 or 3 on the sidesaddle, in case a situation arises where I need more range and/or precision.     Speaking of sidesaddles.... the Mesa and TacStar are pretty much the only two choices, I've got both.  The Mesa is way stronger, way more expensive, and way more complicated to install.  For hard use (lots of training, going through doors, HSLD cool guy stuff), I'd pony up for the Mesa.  For a home defense gun that spends most of its life leaning in the corner, the Tac Star is perfectly adequate.  The SpeedFeed stocks are also excellent, but much slower to load from than the sidesaddle.  When I had my 1100 on patrol back in the day, I used the Speedfeed to carry #6 shot to dispatch snakes and othe varmints (which is the only time I ever actually used my shotgun on duty  )     Speaking of stocks... First things first... make sure some part of the stock goes all the way to your shoulder... "Cruiser" shotguns are for movie stars and blowing off door hinges.  Anything with a pistol grip is very, very awkard on the Mossbergs, because of the safety location.  Almost every shotgun stock I've ever picked up has been too long for normal folks.  My recommendation is to find the shortest youth stock you can find, and use something like a Limbsaver recoil pad to make it as long as you need.      A light is very important on a defensinve shotgun... know your target and all that.  The Surefire forends are very expensive, and very nice.  There are quite a few other options out there now, including railed forearms that you can add any number of lights too.  I'm a fan of the relatively new Inforce WML.  A tritium front bead is an excellent add-on as well.     I'll end with this:  learn how to run the gun.  The shotgun is IMHO the hardest small arm to learn how to effectively fight with.  Get some dummy shells and practice loading.  Shoot your buckshot load at some paper at various distances to learn how it patterns (you bought cheap buckshot, remember).  Even with buckshot, the shotgun is capable of some degree of precision if you learn how.  Then grab your dummy shells and practice loading some more.  Have fun, and stay safe!     DanO
  21. Penny... sleeps better with a rifle nearby.
  22. He brings up some excellent points... but I carry every day in an OWB with a shirt over it....
  23. They suppress really well too.
