    SOCOM 16

$1300 is a pretty darn good price for one.  That being said, the 18" gun is sooooo much nicer (and hard to find).  I just picked one up this week.

    Check this out..

Not my cup of tea, but very impressive work.
  3. I'd go the refund route... with a non-replacement recall the size of the one they are doing, I can't see the company being around much longer.  If your gun breaks next year, you're probably going to be on your own.
  4. How's the construction?  Is the plastic pretty thick?  I really don't want it to hurt too badly when it gets smashed into my head.   :surrender:
  5. Whether you're going to prefer the Aimpoint or Eotech is largely a function of how your eyes and brain work... that is to say, it's going to be very, very "personal".  You really need to try to get some rounds downrange through each before you plunk down money.  Both sights and both companies are outstanding.   That being said, I'm a huge Eotech fan.  If I were going into harm's way on foreign soil whre resupply is questionable, the incredible battery life of the Aimpoint might sway me, but for my purposes, the Eotech gets my bullets on target faster and more surely.  I turn the sight on every month or so (if it hasn't been used), and if the battery is at 20%, it tells you... then you swap out the battery.   Which brings me to my next point.  OP, I highly recommend coming up with another C-note and buying the EXP line. The 123A battery lasts much, much longer than AAs, and the battery is held transversely... which makes for much less wear and tear on the battery and the contacts.  (Traditionally the Eotech's weak point).
  6. Shotguns are for hunting birds, shooting 3-gun, and turning into SBSs so you can show them off to your friends. If I have enough time to pick a gun gun for the fight (but not enough time to be somewhere else), the rifle is coming out every time. The AR pattern rifle can do anything (from an antipersonnel standpoint) that a shotgun can do, and adds a ton of additional capabilities. Anything that isn't going to go through drywall can't be relied on to stop a threat... It's just that simple.
  7. Sorry... I didn't mean to recall Alexander, I meant that it's possible to defeat an incumbent that has a ton of money.
  8. Anti-freedom groups opposing the Colorado Senate recall outspent our side by a a huge margin... anywhere from 6:1 to 11:1 depending on the source. Both sitting State Senators up for recall, including the current State Senate President, got crushed. It can be done. We can do it.
  9. The "bull" profile has the potential for greater accuracy because it is stiffer, and is less effected by the heat of sustained fire.   Al other things being equal, the heavier barrel will be more accurate.  However, a good tapered barrel will outshoot a not-so-good bull barrel every time.  Proper crowns, riflling, and chamber dimensions are much more important then external profile.
  10. Because when a company doesn't have an R&D department, they can afford to do some really killer marketing.
  11. No problem man... the only thing that the internet and gun forums do better than help people save money is help people spend money!
  12. Most bipods allow for a sling to be attached (I know Harris bipods do).  Even if yours doesn't... adding a second front swivel stud is really easy, and way less than 75 bucks.      DanO
  13. Organized labor is an obmination... and just as big an affront to the free market as slavery.   "Collective bargaining" is nothing more than collusion by another name.
  14. The Silencerco Osprey and AAC Ti-Rant are probably the two best boosted pistol cans out there right now.  That being said, I've got a couple of Thompson Machine cans (not the ISIS, though), and they are excellent, and super good folks to deal with, too. Were I you, the main things I would look for are at least partial dissembly ability (you should at least be able to take the booster piston out... the whole baffle stack is even better), and adaptability to various weapons (availability of fixed-barrel spacers, changable thread pitches, etc).    Be prepared for way too long of a wait.   And to want more suppressors, because they are addictive as crack.     DanO
  15. I'm going to try to get up there... maybe pick up some primers and powder.
  16. Buy a Savage .243... they're a darn good rifle, they're cheap, and you could rebarrel one with a pipe wrench and a dummy cartridge if you needed to.
  17. Long guns usually kept chamber empty, but handguns always kept fully loaded.  I've never heard of anyone needing a pistol "in a few seconds".  If you need a pistol, you needed it at least a few seconds ago.      DanO
  18.   Don't beleive them.  Eotechs are GTG.  They don't have the ridiculous battery life of the Aimpoints, but they do still have excellent battery life, and are every bit as reliable and tough, IMHO.
  19. Verbal commands / warnings are another tool that needs to be in the toolbox.  Each armed encounter is its own animal, with way too many variables for a "one-size fits all" solution.  Just like you need to be prepared to use deadly force if it's warranted, you need to be prepared not to if it isn't.
  20. Oh, there's still a fire-control selector on the P90... if you want semi you get semi.  It's only in the auto setting that the "squeeze more for more bullets" trigger starts working.
  21. The Glock truly is the AK of handguns:  Horrible ergonomics, terrible sights, and only worth fooling with if full-auto.   :pleased:   The best Glock model by far is the E-tool... I keep one in the truck at all times.   LOL
  22.   The FN P90 works the same way... it actually works way better than it sounds.
  23. No worries, man, it's a discussion forum... we gotta have stuff to discuss.   As an aside... which shops were recommending piston guns so hard?  And how many piston guns did they have in stock?
  24.   As it should be... except there should be a few more M16A4s issued as well.  None of the other guns presented so far represent a significant increase in capability, certainly nowhere near as much of an increase as to justify the gigantic logistical expense of switching.
  25. Army Times is a joke.  Their articles about small arms are basically H&K ads disguised as journalism.    Correctly-built DI guns run just fine.
