  1. Wow, this pretty quickly went from a pretty decent discussion about general purpose rifles into gun store commando prattle.   I'm looking for a 13 shot .45ACP pistol that weighs less than 12 ounces, fits in a pants pocket, and has soft recoil and a really good trigger.  Oh, I'm not looking to spend more than about $250...   :squint:
  2. Used .30-30s for under $400 are plentiful, I found mine about this time last year on GOC.   Purely for the sake of discussion, what's your rationale behind the detachable mag requirement?
  3. In the near-$300 range, a used Marlin 94 .30-30 is going to be your best bet.  I have a 16" 94 with a peep sight, and it's an excellent "GP" gun.   However, you can put together a pretty decent AR for about 6 bills these days, and there isn't a better choice for what you're looking for a rifle to do.
  4. Whatever you do, if you really don't want to spend the $200-300, DO NOT find someone with the Kidd trigger in their gun and try it.  Trust me.    DanO
  5. .223 or .30 Carbine.  Rifle trounces shotgun for home defense.
  6.   9mm Parabellum operates at twice the pressure as the .380... more pressure is going to need more steel to safely contain it.

    First AK

Everyone needs at least one AK... if for no other reason than to make you more appreciative of real rifles.  :stir:
  8. The CZ75 "family" is the best service-size 9mm made so far, hands down.   The SP-01 is absolutely incredible.
  9. Buy flip up irons (I think you can still get the Magpul set for less than $100). Save more money to buy a good red dot to add later, then you have both. Basically, 100 dollars gets you a perfectly serviceable set of irons that will do the job forever. I haven't seen a 100 dollar optic that I would feel comfortable trusting.
  10. File your SBR paperwork, and buy a part per month... you'll still have to wait for the stamp to actually put the buttstock on.
  11. It shouldn't be against the law to walk around in public with anything unless it's stolen.
  12. Ironically it's the cheapest way to get a new S&W .45ACP revolver these days...
  13.   Anne Frank would get hammered for whining on Arfcom.
  14.   The folks "on the line" at Knob Creek work on a different economy than us normal folks.  It's the only time I've ever almost got run over by a PALLET of ammo heading to the firing line.    Bummed I had to miss this shoot... I really need more 26.5mm flares, and nobody around here has them.
  15.   I was about 60 feet from that debacle.  I never saw so many people reach for guns that weren't there (myself included).
  16.   Good advice.  I can't tell from the picture, and a light sanding is a good, quick way to know for sure.    FYI, Mesa tactical has an excellent reputation for quality and customer service, they'll probably make it right.
  17. I don't think the seller has any legal obligation (he certainly has a moral one, and should help make it right).  However, the factory sealed box is bad news... the FFL logged the gun into his books without verifying the serial number on the actual gun.  It's rare, but I have seen box serial #s and gun serial #s that didn't match from the factory.

    Ruger 77/357

Is there any aftermarket for these yet?  If I could get a 16" threaded barrel it would be hard to resist....
  19. Meh... just sounds like another person whining "where's my stuff?" to me.  SS was a ridiculous unsustainable Ponzi scheme from its very inception, and someone is going to get screwed.  Ms. Myers just seems to want the generation after hers to be that someone, so she can "get hers".
  20. SIG uses basically the same external extractor in their 1911 line that they have used in the P series for a few decades now, it's pretty bulletproof.  The internal extractor is actually one of the "weak points" in the JMB design, as they require some degree of skill to properly tune.  External extractors work fine in 1911s, provided they are designed and made well.  Ironically, it was Kimber who soured the 1911 world on external extractors... back a few years ago they put a horrible external extractor in many of their guns, and it didn't work worth a damn.  SIG and S&W used a soild, time-tested design (basically the same "see-saw with a spring on one end and a claw on the other" design that 75% or so of auto pistols use), and they seem to run just fine.
  21. You can actually build the whole thing from nothing... Tactical Solutions makes an excellent 10/22 action. 0% Ruger parts content (except the mags, I like their factory mags).
  22. I've thought about picking up the Kahr/Auto Ordnance gun, just to keep from shooting my Inland so much.  M1 carbines are awesome.
  23. Actually the new GD .338 gun is about 4 pounds lighter than the 240...   Admittedly, the ammuntion is going to be heavier, but it also provides a pretty big bump in effective range, terminal ballistics, and barrier penetration.
  24. That's the beauty of the .300BLK... any M249 is just a barrel swap away.

    SOCOM 16

Sure... it was a touch over $1400, but it came with quite a few mags and was practically NIB.  That's pretty close to dealer cost (with one 10-round mag), and the Scout/Squads are very scarce, so I jumped on it.
