  I've just learned that counting past six just isn't a goal I can realistically set for myself.   :pleased:

First, don't be fooled by the wretched old Mini-14s at the Corrections Academy... a good rifle is better than any shotgun.   Now that that's out of the way, shotguns are good to have around too.  The 870 is an excellent choice, but the Mossberg 590 and Benelli Nova are also great guns.   As for recoil and the wife... load selection is key.  Most of the major companies make reduced recoil buckshot loads.  I really like the Fiocchi 00 load.   Find the absolute shortest stock you can find, like a youth model or something.  Pretty much every shotgun ever made has "too long" of a stock for defensive use.  Ideally you can find a stock that's too short for you, and then add a Simms Limbsaver recoil pad.

Good.  I was getting a little nervous with the delay.   I predict he'll let it pass without signature.  I don't see him vetoing a gun bill this close to election time.

Well, the PM9 suppressor host project definitely hit a speedbump this morning.   SIG finally released the threaded barrel for my P938.  Ordered!  :rock:

Anytime I leave the house, except where prohibited by law.   If I thought I was going to need a gun... I'd stay home.  

  I have an extra barrel from a "full-size" gun that I'll have cut and threaded if I ever get around to buying the PM9.  I tried it on a friend's PM... it dropped right in and seemed to work fine. 

Hmmm... I really want a PM9 to use a suppressor host... I wonder how long before CDNN has these dirt cheap?  :cool:

  That's pretty solid reasoning.  I think we might see a short term dip in HCP applicants, but over the next 5-10 years people who "just want to carry in the car" are going to get used to having a gun around and go ahead and get the permit, and the numbers will increase.

If it isn't rifled (and I don't think Benelli offered a 20 gauge rifled barrel), it might be easier (and definitely cheaper) to get it threaded for choke tubes than to buy a new barrel.  There are even barrel extensions that screw in place of a choke and give you 4-6 extra inches of barrel if he wants the extra velocity.

  The law isn't supposed to be about "what I want".

Good luck.  Even finding 12 gauge Benelli barrels is tough, and they're crazy expensive if you do find one.  :yuck:   Is the slug barrel rifled?

Yeah I'm fine with it.    I'll go you one better:  I'm against the criminalization of the mere possession of any inanimate object, provided that said object has been otherwise lawfully obtained.   Next.

  Okay strawman, down you go:   If a person cannot be trusted to be in society with a gun, than that person can't be trusted in society without one either.  If a convicted person has served his/her sentence, and is free from conditions such as parole, than he/she should have the same rights and freedoms anyone else in our country.    What a child is allowed to own should be a decision entirely up to the parent or guardian of the child.  In my travels shooting matches I've met many children, some as young as 8 or 9, who handled firearms not only responsibly, but expertly.   The bottom line is this... with the exception of human beings, the mere ownership or possession of anything neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg, as it were.  There isn't a single harmful thing that a person can do with a gun that isn't already against other existent laws.

The Atchison Auto  design has been kicking around since the early 70s.  It's cool engineering, and would be an awesome range toy (hell, I'd love to have one).  As for practical uses.... it really doesn't have any. 

Who exactly should determine how much training is required? What sort of training? Who should decide what sort of training? Supposed 2nd Amendment supporters should stop trying to make "what they wish" into law. That's what liberals do.

I'm reading a little more... apparently older Mossberg 500s didn't have a FPS, and new ones do.  I can't find out which bolt style the Maverick guns use....

Sounds like you may have a bad firing pin spring.  The firing pin will move forward under inertia if the action is worked vigorously, but the firing pin spring is supposed to prevent it.  If it's a new gun I'd send it back to the factory.

No, the reason why anti's have such an easy time is because even people who say they are 2nd Amendment supporters still place the blame for violence on the wrong party.  Do you blame the manufacturer of the gun?  Does the potential for irresponsible behavior justify the denial of our rights?   I'm going to come out against anyone who comes out against this removal of an unconstitutional law, whatever their reasoning.  Period.
