  1. I was in the first group of 8 or 10 people to get one in McMinn county. My wife's permit number was 002. Seems like mine was 005. In addition to the handgun safety class, we had to furnish a $50,000 liability insurance police. The sheriff then put in his own regulation that we undergo a psychological evaluation. He still did not issue the permits until we threatened to sue him. After that he gave every police department in the county a list with all of our names on it so they could take extra precautions around us.

Do you boycott the county clerk's office when you need to get a license plate for your new car?  What about the hospital that your sick friend is at and you want to visit him?  Or do you decline a lunch invitation from a business partner at a 'posted' restaurant and just reply "Sorry can't eat there because I carry" ?

It's easy to say to boycott every place that has these signs if you just carry at your local Wal Mart on the weekends.  If you truly try to carry all the time then those situations can cause you problems in Tennessee.

If I'm in another state that doesn't attach weapons charges to 'posted places', I will generally just carry.  I don't go around asking people and businesses about there political beliefs.  I keep that to myself.  My handgun is concealed for my personal protection.  What others do not know about does not hurt them.

Too bad the NRA and state gun rights orgs here can't seem to get behind a solid bill to change that sign problem but they can get behind bills that make no practical sense, such as the employer-workplace gun bill this year.

If I have to go to one of these places, I just forget that I have a LCP in my pocket and go on in. If I don't really have to go in then I don't.

After weeks of trips to the range and scratching my head thinking WTF? I've come to the conclusion that three of my Glocks (17/34/30) sights are off.  The all three shoot to the left about 1-2" @ 15 yards very constantly.   I thought it was me until I took a Glock 22 with factory sights to the range along with 2 other pistols (Beretta 92fs, Desert Eagle Baby 9, and a Smith who's model I can't ever remember) and all of these pistols are pretty much dead on.

What's different about these 3 Glocks is that they all came with Trijicon sights that I'm assuming were installed by the dealer and not Glock.  They all came from the same dealer and were all bought over a 3 month period.

So I'm looking for a rear sight tool for a Glock but I don't know enough about the different ones available to know which is the better one to buy.  I just don't want to buy something that's junk so I'm not looking at just price.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent Glock rear sight tool?

Get an MGW from Brownells. That is what the instructor at the Glock factory in Smyrna advised me when I took the Glock Armorers course. Glock will replace the factory one as it breaks but they seem to be lighter built than the MGW.

I can put the craziest fence line anyone ever saw on my property, and what I own is still what's described on my deed and what I hold title on.

Its "real" estate. Not, "But I've been mowing this grass for 20 years it should be mine" estate.

Not harping on you, bigun, I just had this same issue with a neighbor, because the previous owner of my house only fenced part of my back lot.

    Research the term adverse possession.

The danger is not who will come and take our guns under a Hillary presidency. The danger lies in the slow incremental creep of laws passed and politicians put into office at all levels of government due to the apathy of the general 2A supporting public.

This is why it's important to vote in the local elections as well as the big one. Be active in your local community and donate to those who fight on our behalf, big and small.

    Just my opinion.

But, to answer the original question.. I lost all my guns in Hurricane Katrina.

You are right. They will never come to take the guns. First they will require registration. Then they will outlaw certain types of firearms. Then they will require everyone to turn them in. The one day 5 years later while you are on vacation a neighbor will find you door open and the police will come and find a gun. Or you will have a fire and the fire department will find a gun. Then you will be arrested and get 5 years in a federal prison. Then your neighbors will throw theirs in the lake.

I'm going to Florida and plant to take my handgun in checked baggage. I have a HCP and will be flying direct from Nashville to Orlando.

I've never carried a handgun in checked baggage, but it seems relatively straight forward as I read the Southwest Airlines policy. I have two locking hard side cases, one for the gun and another for the ammo that I will put inside my checked luggage.  I just wanted to see if anyone had any first hand experience or advice. Obviously, it would be unloaded when I go up to the counter to declare it.

I'll admit that I'm not comfortable putting a gun into a checked bag. I'm afraid it won't make it to the other end!

Last time I did it the process was like this. I took the gun in a lockable hard case to the ticket counter. I had to open the case and show the agent that it was unloaded. He had me lock the case and I kept the key. He pasted a FIREARM tag on the case and took it. I showed ID at the other end and they handed the case to me.

I once managed to by gas in Tijuana and a bagel in New York City within 15 minutes of each purchase, all while sitting at my desk in East Tennessee.  Ain't technology amazing?

I bought $3800.00 worth of furniture in Canada and had it shipped to Nigeria.

  8. I have no problem giving a Bill of Sale with my DL Number and address. I feel there is no more risk to me by giving him this info than he is taking from me potentially misusing the gun that is in his name.

  9. If anyone knows enough about electrical wiring to answer a question, I'd really appreciate it.

I am constantly tripping a breaker in my garage. Some common examples:

    • If I have a heater on and try to use the shop vac, the breaker trips.
    • Sometimes I'll be warming a piece of Kydex in my small toaster oven and the breaker trips if the freezer or mini fridge cycle up.
    • I can't run my table saw with the shop vac attached without tripping the breaker

It didn't occur to me until tonight to check the circuit breaker. I was shocked to find it's only a 15A breaker. Am I crazy for thinking that is a ridiculously small for all 5 of my garage plugs? I mean how can a man get anything done with only 1800 watts to work with at a time?

Do you think it's safe to change that out for a 30A circuit breaker?

I would think it would depend on the size of your wiring. With a 14 wire, I would be afraid to go with a 30 amp. If the wiring is 12 ga, I would probably swap it out.

  10. Etowah is a pretty good place to work out of. I spent 27 years as a locomotive engineer running back and forth from Etowah to Corbin, KY. The South End running to Atlanta is a better run. Our run has a lot of mountains, tunnels, and bridges. My favorite run was always the spur line to Tellico Plains. I loved working the local and going through the mountain country to the little town of Tellico. My grandfather used to be the freight agent in Tellico and always walked down to meet me at the train.

  11. Tell a realtor what you're looking for and have them keep an eye out for you.

Also, if you find a particular piece of property you like, find out who owns it and go ask them if they'd have an interest in selling it. The worst that could happen would be them telling you "no". There's a lot of stuff that can be bought which doesn't have a for sale sign on it.

Good idea. I have 2 acres on the lake in Lenoir City. About once a year I get a letter from someone who has looked up the property at the courthouse and wants to know if I am interested in selling it. One day I will get a letter when I am in the mood to sell. It never hurts to ask.

  12. I used to be a dealer and sold guns through Davidson's gallery of guns. The dealer programs his markup into davidsons website and when you order Davidson's sends the gun right out to him. I always tried to find another gun or two to add to the shipment to save a little on shipping costs. I didn't make a lot of money on the guns but lots of the time the customers liked my service and came back and bought a gun from me later or picked up ammo when they got their gun. Davidson's sends a warrenty card with the gun. Be sure to fill itout and send it in. If they can not repair your gun, they replace it. Seemed to work pretty well.
