  1. My neighbor has electric driveway gates. UPS and FedEx just leave his packages on the ground outside his gate. So far no problems with theft. They do get rained on occasionally. I would think some type of lockable drop box would be ideal.

Of course, legislature changes could quickly and easily change all of this. If you "grandfather in" at $200.00 and then my costs go up to $100.00 annually because of changes, then you win. 🙂

Or worse yet, some new administration could do away with handgun permitting and implement a rule that as all permits expire none of them will be renewed.

Everyone was getting upset about the millions that were given to other countries. I couldn't even bring myself to get mad about that. When we're talking about trillions then a few million is nothing. It really doesn't matter anymore.

There is some truth to that. This country is like the Titantic. We have already hit the iceberg. The Republicans are handing out buckets to bail out the water. The Democrats are drilling more holes in the hull of the ship to let the water run back out. Either way I fear we are going to go down.

As for the rebar posts: drive them into the ground with a hammer.  Posts are still there, no longer dangerous to clumsy kids ...

Actually surveyors have plastic caps that they hammer down over the end of the rebar. Makes the end about 2 inches wide and a lot safer for kids.

Hmmmm. So, I'll play Devils advocate again (at the risk of making even more folks hate me, the thought exercise should prove evocative):

You move into a new home and because a pre-existing condition doesn't comport with your sense of safety, you feel within your rights to remove someone elses property from their domiciled residence?

Wow. I don't mean to be a ____, but you sound just like a gun-grabbbing Karen to me right there.

Seriously, not saying this to roust emotions or cause trouble, I understand the desire to protect ones kin... got 3, but I never felt the right to impose myself on someone else. I might go over to their house to explain my position and ask if something can be done. Hey there neighbor, we just moved in and... what say we plant a couple bushes instead, I'll split the cost with you, buy a cold 6 pack, we'll do it together next Saturday?

I installed a vinyl fence in my first home to keep my toddlers safe. I didn't make my neighbors change their yards because of my situation?!?!?

Most people are reasonable when approached reasonably, and toddler safety is a pretty reasonable request IMO, especially when you're talking about one of those suburban neighborhoods with common property boundarys (my first home was)... But to think you're within your rights to alter my private property? Whoah there, we got us a problem here.

You don't want your kid getting hurt in my yard?

Keep 'em out of my yard.

Why is your childs safety my problem? Do I need to put a lock on my medicine cabinet b/c your kids a meth head? Why not just deny my access to a medicine because others get high off it?

I know, I should have to lock all of my guns up with trigger locks at all times and store the ammunition in a separate location because they might steal it and kill someone else with it!

    Welcome to New Yawk.

LOL, guess that 'splains why I live in the middle of no where down a dead end street!

In all seriousness, I _do_ understand the point @gregintenn
tried making and fully understand @peejman
doing anything and everything to protect his child(ren)... I'm really not this giant A-hole thinking up ways to hurt and maim wayward neighborhood children, honest... but to my way of thinking, that way of thinking, is exactly how gun control laws get passed. I don't mean to anger anyone or ruffle feathers, rather provoke them to stop and think. I find debates interesting and hope it can continue, even if I'm taking the unpopular side 😄

I have a long property line that goes over a hill. I could not see from one end to the other. I had a surveyor mark the line in a couple of places and drove in two steel posts to mark where I should mow to. After about a year my two posts disappeared. I got it surveyed again and this time I put two 8 ft pieces of telephone pole 4 feet in the ground with concrete. They have been there several years now. If my neighbor had come to me and asked me nicely to remove the steel posts, I would have. If I was sure he was the one that pulled them up without asking, I would put up a barbed wire fence along the property line. Asking before doing anything to another persons property goes a long way.

I have no problem with a small fee to post an ad. But charging to buy is ridiculous. I won't do it. There;s a rifle on there now that I'd like to ask the seller a few questions about. Looks like that ain't gonna happen.

I ran into the same problem last night. Saw a S&W Model 617 .22lr revolver for $500. When I tried to contact the seller I was notified that I would have to upgrade my membership. I really wanted the gun but the buyer did not provide a phone number or email address.

  7. Ok, Let me tell you about a funny police chase. About 40 years ago I was running radar on a state highway. The speed limit was 40. An old Pontiac drove past me at 92. I chased it for about 5 miles but his car was faster than mine and when I got to 120 he was still pulling away from me. I was about to call off the chase when I saw his tail lights about a mile ahead pull off the side of the highway. When I got there he was out of his car and sitting on the trunk of the car. I pulled in and got out thinking that this looked like a set up keeping my hand on my revolver and looking all around. Why else would someone run from you for 5 miles then stop when he was clearly getting away? As I walked up to his car, he said to me " I'd have got away if I hadn't run out of gas, wouldn't I?". I replied yes you would have, Now get off the car and place your hands on top of it.

  8. I am about like you. In 2012, I called Rock River and got them to build me two AR-15;s.  I got the fixed buttstock and the M2 fixed carry handle. I like the shorter 16 inch barrel but like the longer handguards better than the short carbine style. They suggested a mid length gas system and longer handguards. I rally like the look. It looks like a full size 20 inch, but they are a bit too heavy. I still have both of them unfired in the boxes. Back then I had an FFL and I think the cost was $775 each. You might check and see if they can put together what you want.

  9. I built a new 1900 sq ft house two years ago. Builder figured it at $250,000. Ended up costing $310,000. I would have been in way too much but for the fact it was on the lake and the lot has appreciated enough to make up for what I lost on the house. I love the house but if I were doing it over, I would have sold the lot and bought an existing home on the lake. Building is a losing proposition.

I actually am leaning to the Mark II FVSR as of right now. Just maybe not taking it quite that far. Haha.

Lots of ways to go, but after reading some feedback from the group, I think I want a bolt action and I would prefer it to have a threaded barrel.

I have a Mark II FVSR that I bought new about 8 years ago.  From a bench it is a tackdriver. Shooting it offhand the barrel is too light and I have trouble hitting with it. I would go with a Ruger 10/22 if I were doing it over.

  11. I used to be a firearms dealer. A denial is fairly common with the Tennessee background check system. This state has it's own background check system. I probably had about 5% denied. About 80% of the denials were approved within 72 hours of submitting an appeal. The TICS people are probably overwhelmed by all the gun purchases going on right now. I would not be too worried about it for a couple of days.

  12. Best trade I ever made was guns for a boat. Twenty years ago I traded 25 new in the box Sig P series { P220, P228, P229, P226) pistols for a new pontoon boat. Kept the boat in the water all the time at my aunts dock on the lake. When she passed away she left me the lake lot. I built a new house on it two years ago and will live out the rest of my days here. Still have a pontoon down there in the boat dock.

  13. I'm about to turn 69. I sold most of my guns 4 years ago and used the money to help me upgrade my old house to a new one on the lake. I don't get around as well anymore and figured I should spend the rest of my days sitting on a boat dock. So far, I have not regretted my decision. I don't have a son or grand kids to leave any guns to and my daughter would rather have the house on the lake.  I'm just glad that I sold them before the gun market bottomed out.

  14. Lets throw another murky question out here. I live on a 2 acre place on the lake. I recently learned that my property is zoned A-2 agricultural.  My next door neighbor is zoned R-2 residential. Since my 2 acres are zoned agricultural and I grow a garden, would I qualify for the fishing exception?  Not that it matters as I have a lifetime license. Just wondering as there seems to be no minimum property size.

  15. I heard the neighbors dog barking up a tree a while back. I walked over to see what he was barking at and was greatly surprised to see a big groundhog about 30 feet up in the tree. First time I had ever seen one in a tree.

  16. I retired early. First few years, I was bored to death. A couple of years ago, I had a new house built on the lake. I am finally at peace with slowing down and taking life easy. I would recommend figuring out what you are going to do in retirement before you pull the plug.
