I thought they sounded great. Heck this was the 3rd best group in last ten years. U2 and Rolling Stones are the only ones better. Janet Jackson, Prince, Shania Twain, Britney Spears and the normal "pop" performers do not compare.

I've always like the browning BDA. They were discontinued in 1997, but still show up on the gun show circuit. They are very high quality and have a nice solild feel.

I added some cheap mods to my AMD-65 to improve handling. I added a Command Arms "tactical" pistol grip ($24), a Command Arms "Short" vertical grip ($15) a 5.9" M-4 rail ($10) and a H&K G3 leather sling ($5). The feel of the AMD is much improved. Here's a pic.

I'm still stuck on the big bore single actions. One of my favorites is a .44mag stainless ruger vaquero with a 4 5/8" bbl. It carries well and shoots very nice.

Frank just gave you some great advice. I'd buy brass ammo and GI mags. Also, a nice sling and a hogue overmold pistol grip make things feel better.

$600 is a lot of $$ for your first pistol. For a first pistol that will be used primarily as a home defense piece, I strongly recommend a slightly used "service" sized (4.5-5.35" barrel) model with a rail for light attachment. As far as brands go, I'd recomment the Beretta, CZ, Glocks, H&K USP, Ruger P,SA XDs, SIG, & Taurus PT. I might even look a S&W. Just make sure that you can pickup hi-cap mags for less than $20.

Guys: I want to add a sub-$1000 .308 semi-auto carbine to my collection. I've been looking at the AR10 (don't really want another AR), SA M1a SOCOM (cannot justify the price tag, and various military rebuilds (FAL, L1A1, CETME, G3). Of all the models, the PTR-91 seems the most intriguing. Does anyone have any knowledge or thoughts about any of these models? Any other recommendations.

Looks like a handy defense piece, might want to chop the barrel to 18" and fab the buttstock to a pistol grip.
