I'm 18, I've been shooting guns since I was 10, and I'm finally at that magical age where I can purchase them myself. I know there is not much restriction on long arms at 18, but handguns obviously have quite a few, and in terms of having a gun for self defense I just prefer a handgun, so I had a few questions and was hoping you all could help me out. I know 18 year olds cannot purchase a handgun through a licensed seller and must go through a private seller in order to do so, and I know that you have to be 21 (or military) to carry a handgun but what other possession restrictions are there? Specifically: 1. Can I keep it in my car? If so are there certain requirements for storing it other than common sense gun safety? 2. Can I take it to the range? 3. Will I be able to purchase ammo for it? It is my hope that they lower the carry age to 18, but it was also my hope when I was 16 that they lower the voting age, and right now the bill to lower the carry age to 18 passed the house but there hasn't been movement in the senate since april.
