  1. Although I'm left handed, I've never fired a left handed rifle.
  2. This is kind of how I see them. LOL!
  3. I have a very good friend in Lafayette who's a jeweler. Johnson's Jewlers on the public square in Lafayette is his business. He will treat you right. He's a gun fan as well.
  4. Cool! Just rain in Macon county....all freakin day long.
  5. How long did it take to make all those snowmen?
  6. He's not new my friend. Garron Pyre has been in business for nearly 40 years. I'd suggest you make a trip up there. He has a really nice selection of most everything; especially high end shotguns.
  7. My father built each of my children a custom 98 Mauser chambered for the 257 Roberts. I am in the process of teaching them to reload. This caliber, although a great round, nearly requires it. My oldest, now 11, has killed two of his three deer with his 257, using ammo he reoladed himself (under close supervision, of course). I believe that adds something to his accomplishment.
  8. Communism isn't in fashion this Christmas season it seems. That reminds me of Academy Sports' Black Friday promotion. They were giving Vince Young jerseys to the first five hundred customers the Friday morning after Thanksgiving.
  9. I'm telling you...once you've held an antique Winchester, 99 Savage, any fine double, etc., up to your shoulder, the plastic G.I. Joe toys just won't compare. It's like comparing a 63 Corvette to a UPS truck.
  10. I never owned a 7mm-08, but I love the idea of it. A short action version of the 280!
  11. ...but you can't drink an AR pretty, and you can't drink a fat girl thin!!!! I just don't care for them. It appears that I'm the only one. I guess I'll go back to pontificating.
  12. I pick "C". If you take the 7mm bullet and place it in the 30-06 case, you have a 280 Remington, which is the greatest deer cartridge ever devised.
  13. There is a bait shop just north of the river on highway 109 in Gallatin that stocks GOEX black powder. The name of the place escapes me at the moment. Poindexter's!!! Poindexter Bait Shop 1380 Old State Highway 109, Gallatin, TN (615) 452-7550‎ I;d give them a call before driving up there, but they've always had it in the past.
  14. Try ammo with a heavier/ slower projectile. It will shoot higher than a faster/ lighter bullet. It would be impossible to regulate a handgun to shoot to the same point of aim with all available ammo.

    savage

A long time ago, Savage made beautiful, high quality rifles. Later on, they made butt ugly, high quality rifles. It looks to me like their trying to steer away from that image a bit with the introduction of their classic series. They are fairly attractive rifles.
  16. http://cz-usa.com/assets/files/CZ09_catalog_spreads_screen.pdf This one is kinda sexy. Top of page 13.
  17. Savage Arms Model 14 Classic Rifle More to my taste, but to each his own.
  18. Here's my nomination for turd of the year.
  19. A 22-250 is a great round. It is somewhat faster than a 223, but the 223 ammo is quite a bit cheaper.
  20. I couldn't find any primers on the link given on this thread. I guess I'm not very web savvy.
  21. I never questioned the AR's function or capability. I said I shot one and didn't care for it. Even if someone's opinion differs from yours, it doesn't make them ignorant. My main complaint is that I'm tired of seeing little else other than articles about the almighty AR in all the gun mags I read. Again, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. For my use, I'll take a model 70 Winchester anyday over an AR. However, I don't fight wars, I shoot paper, deer, etc. I like fine walnut and steel. I like simplicity.
  22. Ball ammo. It feeds every time. It would also penetrate better than anything else.
  23. I don't know if anyone from the TWRA reads these pages, but if so, I'd like to thank you for a job well done. In a world where most government agencies suck, are inefficient, and are riddled with fraud, waste, and abuse, the TWRA has made good desicions with their available resources in the past, and continue to do so today. When I was a child, seeing a deer was quite an event, let alone actually killing one. There were no turkeys. Now, there are greater hunting opportunities in Tennesse than anytime before. I hope one day to aquire one of those coveted elk tags. Who'd ever thought that would be a possibility? Keep up the good work and thanks.
  24. If everyone in Tennessee wearing orange was shooting at you, you'd be hard to find as well. Hunt the food sources. I often have good luck hunting midday instead of morning and evening like everyone else.
  25. I understand that they are time proven firearms, and are a variation of our military's standard issue weapon. I assume they are adequate for this purpose. However, you can't turn two pages in any gun magazine without seeing one, or reading about the latest manufucturer's copy of the AR. That's what I meant by "hype". There ARE other types of guns out there. It seems that the 1911 has recieved the same treatment lately.
