Shel Sliverstien was one of my favorite song writers.
  2. When I used to trail ride, several of us who rode together would order brake/clutch levers a dozen at a time. Glad you weren't injured.
  3. Gamaliel Shooting Supply in Gamaliel Kentucky carries an extensive supply of relaoding supplies, but primers are hard to come by right now as everyone is hoarding what they can find, so I'd definitely call before driving up there. How many are you wanting? I might be able to get you started.
  4. Is a revolver legal equipment for muzzleloader season? It doesn't load from the muzzle, hence the name muzzleloader.
  5. Don;t do this until someone more knowledgeable confirms it, but I remember pouring the powder into the chamber, raking it off level with the cylinder, then placing a ball on top of the cylinder full of uncompressed powder and seating the ball, turn cylinder and repeat as necessary.
  6. Brass for the large magnums is more expensive. I think magnum primers are more expensive, but I'm not sure of that. I do know the large magnums use more powder than non magnum rounds, which costs more. As for recoil, the faster you push the same bullet out of a similar firearm, the more it will recoil. That is a fact of physics. If you want to hunt rabbits with an antiaircraft gun, it makes me no difference. I am simply stating that it is unnecessary....not unlike lots of things we do.
  7. Some kind of mental deficiency....I've still got it.
  8. I also don't like the added cost and recoil involved in shooting the large magnums.
  9. I've yet to see any of these super magnums expand reliably on whitetails; especially in factory loaded offerings. I know several guys who hunt with large magnums, and they are forever losing deer they've shot. They respond by purchasing larger caliber rifles. I've yet to lose a deer shot with any of the calibers I mentioned earlier.
  10. I hunt in terrains that vary from hills to flat land, and from wide open hay fields to open woods to dense thickets. I have an array of rifles, but I have the one that is my first choice for deer hunting, and it has served well in all the various places I hunt. I've never understood why people think you need a large diameter, slow bullet to hunt in a wooded area. I've seen no evidence that those calibers fare any better than smaller, faster ones. Just to be clear, I believe the 280 Remington, 30-06, 270, and the like are borderline overkill for Tennessee whitetail deer. I have had very good success with 243s, 30-30s, 7x57,and 257 Roberts as well. My favorite rifle just happened to be chambered in 280. I'd like it just as well, as long as it balanced the same and shot as well, if it were in any number of similar calibers.

    First Deer Gun

Purchase a used, inexpensive 243 bolt action. find a used replacement stock for it. Cut the replacement stock to fit your son. Proper fit is very important to developing good shooting skills.
  13. In a SHTF situation, I believe that firearms and ammo will trade better than silver and gold.
  14. My wife sold my bow in a yard sale. I'll be jacked when muzzleloader season arrives.
  15. Congratulations! You can now spend your savings on guns and ammo. Gwtting rid of an old water heater can sometimes be a pain.
  16. There are several different types of faucets. Some of which have washers that go into seats. Of course you replace the washers, but often you need to recut or even replace the seats. This requires a special tool you can probably find at your hardware store. Without pictures or a make and model number of the faucet, it would be difficult to give step by step instructions. When you do get it fixed, give all the women in your house a class in NOT OVERTIGHTENING THE D@MNED FAUCET KNOBS!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I bought a plastic Marathon water heater from our local electric coop. I've had it for seven years, and have replaced one heating element and a leaky pop off valve. They were both still under warranty. All in all I really like it. It is 92 gallons, and you can't run it out of hot water! It looks like a port-o-let. I'm certain it won't rust. They make smaller sizes if you don't have room for one this large.
  18. Buy a quality safe...or three, with fireliner and bolt it to your floor. Any rider for firearms I've priced has been ridiculously expensive.

  20. We've been fighting him on that for some time now. We all like the Braves, but he's an independant little soul. He and his brother have been in some pretty heated arguments on the subject. Maybe he'll grow out of it.
