  1. I can't really imagine a situation, other than a fire or tornado, where I'd be inclined to leave home. In those cases, the damage should be rather limited in area, so finding a suitable place to relocate temporarially shouldn't present a big problem. Am I missing something?
  2. I had to grade my driveway with my tractor and boxblade after the rains.
  3. I keep a few cases of bottled water in the basement, and rotate them as I use them. Should be enough to avert all but the most unthinkable disasters.
  4. That's a big freaking hole in I-24!!!
  5. I've seen it. Have you sat and watched them? They are there for 12 hour shifts. You see them for about 15 seconds. They don't have a job that I'd envy. I'm telling ya, if some drunk fool runs off into that hole and sues the state for multi millions, the folks sitting in the truck making sure the area is safe to traverse will seem like quite a bargain. If the slide happens to get worse in the middle of the night, flashing barriers won't move themselves. I agree it doesn't seem efficient, but it's not a bad option short term. Moving enough concrete barriers there to secure the area would be very costly, and time consuming to set and then later remove.
  6. Find and purchase a case or two of 380 ammo before you buy the handgun. Then it will not be a concern. You won't ever run out of it.
  7. I love my 218 Bee and my 250-3000. I'm also a fan of the 257 Roberts. Ammo availbility isn't a big concern for me. When I find it, I buy a bunch of it. Then I have it when I want it. Reloading helps as well. I've got a few 380s, but don't shoot them much. Limited ammo availibility will be a short term problem, as it is pretty much THE standard conceal carry round. It probably ain't gonna get any easier to find ammo for my 6.5 Jap though.

    .22 Plinker?

Don't cheap out on the 22s. I shoot 22s 10-1 over all pther calibers combined. My favorite is an older Smith and Wesson model 18 Combat Masterpiece with a 4" barrel.
  9. Rightwinger, although this is one of the few problems you see on a regular basis, there are many problems with our highway systems due to the recent floods. TDOT's maintenance doesn't really have the equipment to repair the hill, as it will be a fairly extensive job. Repairs such as this will be let out in an emergency contract. Some of the more severe problems south of us have already been awarded. The reason TDOT keeps staff on the sight is because the general public gets a kick out of running over traffic barriers and they need to be reset regularly for your protection. To design a repair such as this, in addition to securing funding for the project, obtaining all of the necessary environmental permits, etc., takes a little time. Your big, loveable bureaucratic government in action.
  10. Sounds like a model 10. They are great guns, but in really good shape, you can figure $250-$300 tops, unless there is something really special about it.
  11. I got one a week or so ago with a 10" beard. No picture.
  12. I don't know if you're joking or what, but the 51 Remington for $325 and the four German Mausers for $300 are steals!!! I'm trying to figure out when I could go to Chattanooga.
  13. I don't blame them. I wouldn't touch the evil SOB either.
  14. They look really good. I've made leather holsters, but never worked with Kydex. Would you be so kind as to explain the basics for us? Do you jus heat it and mold it? How do you bond the edges? Is there a trick to making the belt clip? It looks like you have a business in the making right there!
  15. No chuckles here. Glad you're here, and that you enjoy shooting. Sounds like you started out with some pretty nice guns.
  16. I bought my wife a Canon Rebel DSLR. We love it. My old Canon Rebel SLR lenses work on it; even the auto focus.
  17. I don't know. If you'd be kind enough to send me one and a good supply of ammo, I'll be more than happy to write you an extensive review. Seriously, I've never owned one, but they look great, and all of Ruger's revolvers are tough as nails. If I ever find one at a fair price, I'll buy it.
  18. All I can give you is advice. I was trained in CAD. I made a few $$$ drawing house plans before taking a job with a TDOT engineering field office. It isn't drafting, but it is in the engineering field. It might be worth checking into for you. If I were going into the private sector right now, I'd be thinking about starting a seeding/ erosion control business. They are all covered up with work.
  19. Have you ever thought that if the dollar will soon be worthless, and gold is such a great investment, why are all these people on tv so willing to trade their valuable gold for your worthless dollars?
  20. 1948. $500-$600 assuming it is a common variant. Even though it's a very common firearm, the pre '64, 94 Winchester is a fine gun.
  21. I've loaded nothing but 100 grain bullets for the 243. Cartridge Loads - Hodgdon Reloading Data Center - data.hodgdon.com Did you try this place?
  22. Awesome!
  23. Please consider summer style hats for those of us who work outdoors.
  24. I'm very serious. The entire country didn't flood, and Nashville isn't the only location for fuel suppliers. If suppliers can't handle this, we're screwed if something really bad happens. Same thing with ammo. It's been over a year now, and primers and some types of ammo are still difficult to find. Has our population lost the ability to reason, lead, predict, etc? It's starting to seem like we're living in a third world coutry. I worry that food supplies will be iffy before too long as well.
