243, 270, 30-06, 308, 30-30. However, you're 223 will do everything you stated you might want to do, and ammo is cheap and plentiful.

I'd be very interested in your results. In fact, I'll bet you could submit an article to one of the gun magazines on that subject and probably make some money with it. I've never seen that experiment before.

Does it cock when you open the bolt or when you close it? What did you pay for it? You might not have gotten burnt.

Brownells, or someone like them, offers a kit that comes with bullets you load and shoot down the barrel. They are impregnated with different grit sizes, and polish the bore as you shoot them.

Polish it with polishing compound. A rough bore is one of many traits of an inexpensive firearm.

I've hit several deer, but so far have managed to keep them outside the vehicle. I'm surprised more people don't hit them with motorcycles. That would make a mess.
