  1. PM me when you get it if you don't mind buying a used scope. I can probably send you something you'd like reasonable.
  2. A 45-70 would make a fine deer rifle. There are actually a lot of different loads available for them, and the sky's the limit with what they're capable of if you handload. As for a scope, I'd recommend watching places such as ebay for a used M8 Leupold 4x. You can get one for less than $150. I feel they are the perfect scope. They also have a lifetime warranty. If anything is ever wrong with it, send it back and Leupolld will repair it free. It doesn't matter if you ran over it with your truck...they'll fix it.
  3. I see. I can't believe you don't even have a quota doe hunt! Macon county borders you, and we can shoot three does a day....no quota.
  4. http://www.gun-parts.com/grips2/ I think this guy can make a set of faux pearl grips for your pistol. A set of genuine pearl grips probably for it probably don't exist, as they'd cost many times what the pistol is worth.
  5. I'll bet it is a good trigger. I'm glad companies have begun to focus on triggers. A few years back, and useable factory trigger was hard to come by. Have you ever seen an old model 70 trigger? It is among the simplest mechanisms I've seen, yet it can be adjusted to feel and work great.
  6. Sorry Mike, I think they do have the same trigger now. I'm not sure why they got away from the old model 70 trigger. It is simple and good. I have heard good things about the new SC model 70 triggers. I haven't tried one. They are still beautiful rifles. All mine were made in the old plant. Any way, I'm sure glad they are making them again.
  7. Not a chance! The model 70 is the epitome of what a bolt action should be; a perfected Mauser action if you will. Not at all like an X bolt. Similar, however, to an old Browning Safari. I'm not knocking your Browning, but they aren't alike.
  8. Well don't leave us hanging....did ya get it?
  9. Get the bike, and I'll make the seat for you.
  10. Why not carry FMJ ammo? It will feed reliably, and will penetrate.
  11. Margaritaville just opened downtown, if you're a Buffett fan.
  12. Thanks. Did Clay county get bumped from unit L to unit A?
  13. Whiskey, That one is a 300 Savage. The scope and mounts are period Bausch and Lomb BalVar. I think it's a 1-3 power. No adjustments in the scope, they are in the mounts. It's still bright and clear. That is one accurate rifle.
  14. Time to make sausage!
  15. The Country Music Hall of Fame is a must see. There are several things around Nashville I really like; the Nashville Zoo, The Parthenon, The State Museum, Fort Nashboro, The Hermitage, and Gruhn Guitars. Opryland Hotel is worth seeing, and a cruise and dinner on The General Jackson is a nice, yet expensive endeavor.
  16. WHat's not to like? The Rifleman's Rifle in Supergrade. What's better than that?
  17. Thanks, coldblackwind. You saved me a 45 minute drive and a sizeable amount of frustration tomorrow. I'll spend that time deer hunting.
  18. My favorite show is the one in Cave City Kentucky. Second would be Sparta.
  19. They used to have a good show in the Shriner's temple at I-65 and Trinity Lane. I didn't know they still had them.
  20. Was it better than the first one? It had a crowd, but I had about as many guns in the truck as I saw at the show, and sure wouldn't have traded even!!!
  21. Damn sure is!!!
  22. I love guns as much as anyone, but this looks completely useless to me. How can you achieve any accuracy from such a thing? Do yourself a favor and buy a 92 carbine instead.
  23. Looks good! There's no reason to take that load now and adjust the OAL and see what effect that has. Another cheap trick you can try is to insert a piece of plastic, such as a credit card under the foreend, between it and the barrel. Shoot a group. Add another thickness and shoot another group. Sometimes a bit of pressure helps, somtimes it hurts. If you don't want the added trouble, you have a great deer rig just as it sits. TO prevent boredom, I like to see exactly how much accuracy I can get from one.
  24. As for the CZ 52, I bought two for $70 at an auction some time back. They appeared to be unfired. I don't feel like I got too good of a deal. I've seen smoother toy pistols. The entire gun is covered in machine marks, the firing pins aren't good for a box of shells, the grips are held in place by a gaudy metal clip, and the decocker will fire a round about every fourth try. I have no experience with the commercial CZ pistols, but theey sure look a lot better than the 52s.
