  1. I think the 642 Smith and Wesson is one of the best carry guns ever produced. However, lately I've found the Ruger LCP much easier to carry.
  2. You are talking crazy! Replace that "or" with an "and" and you'll be on track.
  3. THis isn't the best picture in the world, but we watched this 8 point buck eating dinner last night as we were eating dinner. He was behind my house, and very close to my shooting bench. He'd better not do that in a couple more weeks!
  4. 0000 steel wool and plenty of oil is the way to remove surface rust while keeping as much finish as possible.
  5. Hot For Teacher
  6. Great qusetion. If, by chance, you are a revolver guy, I'd suggest the book "Sixguns By Keith" written by Elmer Keith.
  7. TO address the original post, I regularly store extra garden seed in my deep freezer in the basement. They grow just like newly purchased seed. I don't know how long they'd last, but I'd guess indefinitely, as long as the integrity of the seed wasn't somehow compromised by bugs eating them, moisture, rot, etc. Seeds germinated after various ice ages.
  8. Why would a person want a ported barrel on a .357?
  9. I'm not sure, but $50 does seem kinda steep.
  10. I carry either a Smith and Wesson revolver or a Ruger LCP. For the life of me, I can't locate the safety on either.
  11. For a nominal fee, Roy Jinks will write you a letter on Smith and Wesson letterhead, giving all the information available for your revolver; including shipping date, where it was shipped, and in what original configuration it was shipped. These letters are very good investments in the Smith collecting world.
  12. S&W Forum Here's your best source for Smith and Wesson information. If these guys don't know it, it ain't known.
  13. Have you ever actually talked to Mae Beavers? She ain't easy to like.
  14. Like my ole pappy says, "A blind hog will find an acorn every now and then.":D
  15. Pretty close.
  16. quote from History of Smith and Wesson by Roy Jinks: "On April 24, 1942, Smith & Wesson's serial numbers on the original .38 M&P series reached 1,000,000, and a new series was started having a V prefix beginning at serial number V1. This series was nicknamed the Victory model to signify the company's hope for a quick victory in World War II." This lead me to believe your's was made in late 41 or probably early 42, and is not a Victory model. 1967 1971 1974 1970-1973. If you own more than a couple of Smith and Wessons, and have more than a passing interest in them, it would be money well spent to purchase the book: History of Smith and Wesson by Roy G. Jinks. Mr. Jinks is the historian at Smith and Wesson, and the foremost authority on the subject.
  17. You must not have been here to witness the a$$hole the Republicn party foisted onto us the eight years prior to Bredesen. Compared to Sundquist, I LOVE Bredesen!!!!
  18. 42-6 Bama.
  19. I don't have a preference either way. I find both sites pretty user friendly compared to other forums. I do hope I'm only seeing part of the new test program, however, because a lot of the features here aren't there; or at least i can't find them. All the sections aren't there, and neither is the PM part of the program.
  20. Sums it up pretty well.
  21. I haven't read the ammendment. Is there any possible trick, snare, or downside to it? Is it simply a campaign gimmick someon thought up? What is it exactly?
  22. You all have illustrated my point. Decent people don't want to hold public office!
  23. I am. Have any of you ever considered a run for office? I don't have the temperment or people skills to pull it off, but I'm sure some of you would. You'd have backing here.
