  1. mav, you seem to have a pretty good handle on reality. I learned some time ago that I'm not Superman. I a situation such as you mentioned occurs, my money is on the older, rural farmers that'll make it the longest. My grandparents, who lived in Nashville, regularly talked about the great depression, and how poor they were and what a challenge merely surviving was. I once asked my wife's grandmother, who lives on a farm, her memories of the great depression, and her response was quite surprising to me. She said they heard something about it on the radio, but she couldn't tell any difference. For people with a self sustaining lifestyle, such things really don't have much impact.
  2. No, not at all. I just think it odd that every time this subject comes up, everybody states how they're going to go to an unfamiliar place and live off the land. I think most people watch way too many movies. It isn't logical.

    Vaquero

AKA The Excecutioner? Pretty revolver, pretty grips, nice leather, and cool belt buckle. You have great tastes.
  4. Seriously, if you are bent on accosting me while I'm taking a dump, I guess you win.
  5. The worst thing I ever had happen in a restroom was a former Senator trying to play footsie with me under the stall walls. Unnerving; yes, but not a shooting offense.
  6. Now there's one Wal Mart don't stock.
  7. It may be a bit premature, but I don't see how one could top this thread. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/49722-behaviour-bathroom-while-carrying.html
  8. I hereby nominate this thread "Thread of the year"!!!!!!!!!!!:rofl::rofl:
  9. Those of us who live in the mountains and deep backwoods know them; know where we are, and to be honest, an intruder wouldn't stand much of a chance competing with the locals for available resources. We were born and raised here, and you come in from the concrete jungle with a backpack and a gun? Have you seen the movie "Deliverance"?
  10. If you get one from Bud's and have a problem with it, where are you gonna take it back to? If you are ever around Lafayette, my firend has a guns store here, and I think he gets $295 for them.
  11. I MUST know how you managed to make that little "2".
  12. A 1911 in 45 isn't uncomfortable to shoot. It produces a long, gentle shove for recoil. Just enough to feel powerful.
  13. Reloading is as safe a hobby as I can think of. I'd suggest you buy a good reloading manual, and read it. Then you'll be able to make a more informed decision as to what you need. You can spend the next fifty years filling in the "want" gaps. When you buy brass, bullets, powder, and primers, you won't save a lot over buying factory ammo. When you pick those empties up, you will have powder left, so your only expense to make them go bang again and again will be primers and bullets. There's where the cost savings will come into play. Having more options and being able to experiment is more a reason to reload than money savings. Also, if you get into odd guns, reloading is pretty much the only way you can shoot some of them.
  14. Sorry, I was thinking of 6.5 Jap. That stuff is GOLD!!!! The Carcano ammo can still be found.
  15. If you are referring to a carrying case, and not a wooden gun rack or safe, DON"T STORE A GUN IN IT!!!!! They will collect moisture with changing temperatures, and the case won't enough air in to dry the moisture. There starts the rusting problem.
  16. Any but #5. The only reason I say that is because I have it's twin brother. I love em all....I just can't find any I can afford. 4,3,1,6,2,7 would be the order of interest, with #4 being the most interesting to me.
  17. I hope it comes with ammo!!!
  18. You could probably trade a Winchester for one of those Savages.:D
  19. You'll need it appraised and insured seperately. Otherwise, your insurance ajuster will want to pay you a hundred bucks or so for a generic muzzleloader.
  20. Roadshow Archive | Fake Confederate Sword "APPRAISER: Real Thomas Griswold & Co., with an original scabbard, in pretty nice shape-- you're going to be 10,000 and up. " When I google Thomas Griswold, the predecessor of A.B. Griswold, I found this info about a Griswold sword, and it caught my attention. http://historical.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=674&Lot_No=72245 It appears to have quite a pedigree!!! I think I'd have it appraised and possibly insure it. I'd be interested in seeing an appraisal on it.
  21. No doubt that shotgun is a high quality piece. It appears to be in very good shape for it's age as well. I think you have an expensive piece there. Thanks for sharing. I love to see old, odd, and interesting firearms.
  22. Civil War Preservations - Museum - Conferate Revolvers That's a beautiful shotgun. Looks like the were made in New Orleans, La.
  23. Different ammo can affect the point of aim a bunch. As I recall, faster ammo will shoot lower than slower, heavier bullets. It sounds counterintuitive to a rifle shooter, but the faster, lighter bullet leaves the barrel before muzzle rise caused by recoil can change the point of impact as much.
  24. Why do you need a warranty for something that works?
