It is my understanding that they are one in the same. You'll need to verify that, however. I have a Rock Island, and I love it. If you aren't set on a 45, I'd suggest a GSG 1911 in 22 Long Rifle as a fun, inexpensive learning handgun.

I'd like to reinforce what others have said and encourage you to get set up to reload your own. Savings isn't that great for common calibers, but it is there. Far more important to me however, is the fact that I can custom load ammo to my taste and to my particular firearm's liking. I have several guns in duplicate calibers, and they all don't shoot the same thing well. I can also load quality defense ammo for about the same cost as plinking ammo. The real savings comes with oddball calibers. If you're really into guns, you'll wind up with one or more of these in time. Calibers like 41 Magnum, 32-20, 218 Bee, 401 Herters PowerMag, etc., are not only nearly impossible to find, the seller will absolutely rape you when you do find them. I can load a box of 38 specials, or a box of 41 Magnums for about the same cost. You can buy a BUNCH of 38 Special ammo for the price of one box of 41s. I won't lie to you; you'll never save any money reloading......but you WILL get to shoot more!!!

I watch the classified ads here and on other gun sights. It seems that many who cleaned the retailer shelves after Obama was elected have decided they overdid it. I've found some bargains on ammo as well as reloading components from individuals.

You'll get repeatibility in adjustment. When you turn the adjustment 2 clicks, the point of impact will be where you expect it to be. On a cheap scope, who knows? You'll also get a scope that won't likely go haywire on you. I've seen glass crack, lenses fog, reticles break, etc. on cheap scopes. I'm sure it happens, but I've never personally witnessed it on a higher end scope. With Leupold in particular, you get a lifetime warranty. Anything happens to it, send it back and they'll rebuild or replace it free. You don't even have to be the original owner. You can find a used Leupold M8 4x for $150 or so on ebay and other trading sites. I have several, and you'd have to spend many times that amount to improve.

I stumbled upon this at a gun show in Cave City Kentucky one Sunday afternoon quite a few years ago, new in the box. The dealer didn't want to pack it back up, and asked me to make an offer. I instinctively lowballed him, and much to my surprise, he accepted my offer. I asked if he had any more at that price, and he said "No." This is a Winchester Model 70 Classic in 280 Remington. It has a Leupold Varix 3 2.5x8 mounted in Burris mounts and rings. As you can see, it shoots well for a light rifle. I've never floated the barrel or glass bedded the action. I lightened the trigger pull, and except for that and the sling swivel studs, it is like it came from the New Haven factory. I've found that it really likes 51 grains of IMR 4350 and a 140 grain Sierra BTSP bullet in a Remington case and CCI large rifle primer, with the bullet seated to a somewhat short 3.25" OAL. 3/4" 100 yard groups like you see in the picture are the norm. I feel that's pretty good in a 20 MPH crosswind like I shot this in today. This rifle has taken tons of deer and coyotes. I have several rifles, and will carry any one of them for a jaunt in the woods, depending on the whim of the moment. If I am seriously hunting big game, however, this is my go to rifle. I've had many through the years, but I've yet to improve upon this particular rifle. It think I can say it is my favorite. I'd like to see yours.

On the IWB holster, I would suggest a sweat shield covering the slide, hammer, safety area. It would make the holster more comfortable and protect the metal on the pistol from corrosion from your sweat. Other than that, it looks great!

I can understand a person wanting to travel abroad, and we'd have life a lot easier with some means of foreign trade. I really don't tihink, however, that we've been designated by any power to be the world's police. The U.N. building should be turned to the world's largest homeless shelter.

I'm more of a revolver guy, but a cocked and locked RIA is definitely a formitable weapon. I do not understand why one would say it is an "advanced" carry weapon. Drop the safety and pull the trigger. That's one simple step beyond the revolver.

It seems to me that Switzerland has fared very well by not sticking their noses into other peoples' business. I'd be interested in hearing why the United States couldn't do the same. It would require having a strong military, and good border protection. I believe I'd prefer to have our people here instead of scattered about the world trying to enforce some political agenda no one quite understands. I do understand this isn't a popular view, and I'm likely wrong in my thinking. I would appreciate hearing your views.

I started working for a neighbor pollenating tobacco when I was 8 years old, and have never been unemployed since. My wife of 16 years and myself started with virtually nothing, and have worked hard to accumulate pretty much everything we wanted. We have no special gifts, nor did we receive any kind of government assistance to get to where we wanted to be. I cannot understand why other people are unable to do the same.

Love the grips! You won't be sorry you bought the Rock Island. In my opinion, you could have spent a lot more, and perhaps gotten a shinier gun, but you weren't likely to get a better shooter. I have a Rock Island Commander in 45ACP and I absolutely love it. I may have to look into a set of grips like the ones you have here.

I witnessed my buddy shoot a deer in the bottom of a deep, overgrown hollow, only to have it run straight up the hill and fall over dead right behind his truck. Never happens that way for me!

That's what they look like to me. Don't throw them away. Someone will want them.

Brian, How about diving headlong into The Fast and the Furious scandal. Now THERE'S a story wothy of some real investigative journalism. So far, I've found the coverage lacking considering the size and scope of the scandal.

What do you do with the fat? It has the consistancy of candle wax. You surely can't cook with it?

Another vote for the Heritage Rough Rider. It doesn't have the fit and finish of a more expensive gun, but has a smooth action and shoots great.
