  1. I don't care for AR's, but I'd have to buy one at $280.
  2. I believe I speak for the majority here when I say we're glad to have you, Brian. I'm not looking for a champion for my side in the press. I believe that if the media in general simply worked objectively on a story and reported their findings honestly, we as law abiding gun owners would have nothing to fear from them.
  3. Good article, Brian. It is impossible for me to determine your personal point of view from the article. That is, in my opinion, a mark of a professional journalist. They seem to be in short supply today. That looks like a long barreled nickel Colt Python, or perhaps a Diamondback in the foreground of the picture of your article. That is a quite expensive and collectable revolver.

    MADE!

"I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy." I like this answer.
  5. Pocket carry works for me most of the time, whether camping or what.
  6. You certainly handled it well. That is a symptom of our current entitlement mentality. Everyone wants everything. and they want it now! They don't give a cr@p about anyone else.
  7. I understand. My boys have been having a ball strewing my yard with tiny plastic balls.
  8. So when does the story go to print, Brian?
  9. Get yourself a stone and watch a couple of youtube videos on the subject, and give it a whirl yourself. Replacing the factory springs with an aftermarket kit, and stoning the contact surfaces on the trigger and hammer would be a great help. When stoning, you don't want to reshape any of the parts or change any angles, you just want to remove burrs and smooth machining marks. alittle grease on these surfaces when you're through will help as well.
  10. True! With the mini, you have two projectiles, the bullet and the brass. Not sure why that's a bad thing unless you are standing waaaay downrange and to the right of one. I'm not sure where all the talk of inaccuracy comes from, but mine will shoot 1.5" 100 yard group with most anything you put in it. Not a target rifle, but not bad for what it is. Many bolt rifles won't improve upon that.
  11. I am not very social and prefer to hunt alone. The exception to this is when my kids want to go.
  12. I've worn Rocky boots in the past, but I don't believe the last pair I bought has the same quality found in earlier models. Muck boots makes great rubber boots, but I'm not sure they are what you need for an extended hunting session.
  13. It pretty much comes down to whether you'd prefer to make .223" holes or .308" holes. Not much difference in noise, recoil, or price of ammo. I have a mini 14, and after a bit of trigger work, I really love it. If I ever find one at a fair price, I may get a mini 30 as well...there's an option....get both!!!
  14. Update. I stopped by Elite Airsoft in Old Hickory today. Travis was very nice and helpful. He got my son's airsoft rifle up and going in just a minute. I'd recommend any of you with airsoft needs stop by and see him. I do wish I could talk him into removing the gunbuster sign from the front window, however. Thanks Travis.
  15. I help a bit with Boy Scouts, and also with Little League. I guess it's a bit self serving since my children are involved, but it makes it easier to find the time to help out. A local nursing home would be a good place to start, as they could always use some help. Just visiting with some of the residents can be a rewarding experience, and means a great deal to someone who has no one to talk with. I've found United Way to be little more than a giant fund raising operation.
  16. What's wrong with a .380?
  17. I've discovered that when I'm carrying, I tend to keep my mouth shut at times where I would open it if I didn't have a gun. For me, that's probably a good thing. I have no doubt I'd use it in clear concience should the situation arise where I had no other option. You are likely overthinking it.
  18. This turned out to be one of the best discussions I've read in quite some time.
  19. It's been a while, but I've seen my local game warden auction guns on the courthouse steps.
  20. Keep it clean and shoot it often. You might need to get more to keep it company.
  21. Sorry to hear it. We lost ours back in the winter. It is a heartbreaker. We now have a lab puppy, and although the other dog will be missed, the puppy does fill an empty space. Little boys need a dog in my opinion.
  22. A "T" is a quite desireable model of 99. The 300 Savage would be the most common chambering among them, however. If you're looking for a rough estimate of value, post some clear detailed photos of it, along with an accurate description of the condition. Common things that hurt the value of 99s are: a crack in the top of the buttstock were it joins the receiver, non factory drlled and tapped for scope mounts or other oddball sights, or installation of non factory recoil pads, sling swivel eyes, etc. Assuming good, unaltered factory condition, you are looking at more than a thousand dollar rifle. If it were a 250-3000, 22 High Power, or a Winchester caliber, it would nearly double the price. Depending on what information you are searching for, a factory letter can be had. They usually tell the date, configuration, place of shipment, and whether the gun was ever returned to the factory for work. They will also list any unusual special order features the gun may have shipped with. Be very careful; there are a myriad of 99 Savage variations, and collecting them can become quite addictive. They are also some great rifles to shoot, and among the most accurate lever guns to date.
  23. Seriously Brian, that is an interesting topic for an article. You are more than welcome to quote me in the article stating, "The obvious answer, seeing that all levels of goverment are perpetually looking for more revenue, is to sell them at public auction, just like seized cars, boats, etc. A confiscated gun wouldn't pose any more danger if sold than would a new gun sold in a gun store. Destroying them would be just another example of government waste." Greg Herbert Lafayette, Tennessee
