  1. Sure wish I was closer, as I would like to see and shoot the rifle in person.
  2. Yeah, I have an opinion. I went to their last Lebanon show, and I had about as may guns in my truck as there was at the show. I would really like my money, gas, and time refunded. I'll not go to another one.
  3. What kind of scope? Are the mount screws tight?
  4. My doctor told me to quit drinking. I thought "I know more old drunks than old doctors, so I went home and had a drink." Hope they cure you up in no time!
  5. Perhaps I'm just ignorant, but if one is attacked by a bear, how many rounds should he expect to get off before being mauled to the point of submission? I'd be surprised if I were able to get a handgun out of my holster and shoot at all. If six won't do it, I'm sure the end would be near.
  6. I'd watch the guns for sale section here, as well as ###.com. I've seen some good prices lately on used privately owned firearms since it's close to Christmas and money is tight. I can't give you any advice on the Glock.
  7. Here are my 44 mags. My preference of these to take on a bear hunt would be the Marlin! If you need to defend yourself against a bear, I believe a rifle is one's best bet. Do you mean you will be hunting with the 44, or just carrying it along?
  8. I'd recommend a pre lock Smith and Wesson model 29 or 629. Tough to find one for $600, but you won't need to add too much more for a serviceable one. A Ruger Super Blackhawk is a trustworthy gun that can be had for far less than your budget. I would personally avoid the Taurus.
  9. ...then you have to pee. The key to deer hunting, at least stand hunting, is to be still.
  10. Same here! I was much more pleased with mine than I'd have ever guessed.
  11. They were just in the way. They blocked roads, took up space in vacant buildings people could have used for other things, etc. I think it would be prudent for them to no longer exist. As I said in an earlier post, there are plenty of local agencies more than capable of handling such a situation.
  12. I can give a report after Christmas. My oldest boy is getting an Umerex/Walther/Colt M4 22lr for a present. It sure looks to be of good quality. So do the Smith and Wesson models. Mossberg makes a less expensive version.
  13. Nothing wrong with the government playing a part. Pre FEMA and TEMA, the local police, fire dept., EMTs, and even the national guard did a fine job assisting in such situations. When the tornado destroyed my community, friends and neighbors were also key players in the cleanup and rebuilding. FEMA and TEMA were a hinderance. I can't speak for everyone, but a lot of my neighbors will not be to welcoming of these agencies in the future. The above statement is spot on, and as we continue to allow government to grow, many among seem to be losing sight of this.
  14. lafayette tennessee tornado pictures - Google Search You mean like this? This event was EXACTLY what formed my opinion on FEMA and TEMA. The government is NOT the answer for everything.
  15. Great job, especially for a first attempt.
  16. FEMA and TEMA are usless and should not exist to begin with. If anyone associated with them is ever on my property, they will be asked to leave immediatly.
  17. Depends on the gun. Whadda ya got?
  18. Rifle (in my hand), knife and extra ammo (on my belt), and sometimes a climbing stand (on my back). I've deer hunted for many, many years, and I've yet to need anything else. (edited) I also have in my pocket my license, a baggie tie to attach the kill tag to the deer, and a couple of paper towels.
  19. This morning I carried a well used 99 Savage EG chambered for 250-3000. Who says you need a scope for deer hunting? A Lyman tang sight and brass bead will get the job done.
  20. Looks like a copy of an SAA Colt. I wouldn't expect Colt quality at a small fraction of the Colt price, but Cimmaron usually produces some pretty decent stuff for the money.
  21. No, they aren't target guns. They do, however, present a fit and finish not found in today's production guns. I guess I'm just a sucker for old stuff.
  22. If it hasn't changed recently, I do believe it is illegal to take small game with a centerfire rifle or handgun. Check TWRA regs for a difinitive answer.
  23. Your post inspired me to give my old Colt a go. I fired a couple of magazines through it a few minutes ago with no problems. Accuracy wasn't quite what I'd hoped, but daylight was dwindling, and the sights were hard to see. It is a fun gun to shoot; smooth and sure, just like every Colt I've owned. I will say it doesn't fit my hand as well as the 51 Remington or the 1907 Savage pictured below. None of their sights would win any prizes, but they all sucessfully filled a need of a pocket protector for many years. I like pea shooters!
  24. Looks very nice! Thanks for the report.
  25. Hard to choose since I love them all, but "The Coyboys" probably gets the nod, woth "True Grit" a close second. "North to Alaska" was one of the funnier ones.
