  1. The 38 Super would compare ballistacly with the 357, yet is rimless, and wouldn't suffer from the potential feeding issues.
  2. My wife and I both shot my Smith and Wesson Model 18 Combat Masterpiece in 22 long rifle. This was partly due to ammo cost and availability at the time. The shooting portion of the test wasn't difficult, however, as I scored 100%, and her 98%. If a person couldn't pass what we were required, they definitely don't need a carry permit. You will be able to pass it with most anything; don't sweat it!
  3. Ruger made a sweet little bolt rifle chambered for 7.62x39, and I have seen an Interarms mini mauser actioned rifle chambered for the same. I prefer these tiny actions to the full sized Savage, but it's your gun.
  4. Mine is steel, although it appears to be cast instead of forged. The lightweight models from different makers feature aluminum frames. I don't much think RIA makes one of these.
  5. We let our first son name his little brother. I was afraid he'd be named Darth Vader or Spongebob, but I was pleased with the name he chose. It was a big deal for the older brother, and instead of being jealous, he felt he had a part to play with the new baby just as his parents did. I believe this helped our two boys to become very close friends.
  6. The Republican party wants control. Historically, they have shown that when they've gained control, they have no idea what to do with it. Imagine Wiley Coyote actually catching the Roadrunner. "What now?"
  7. Potential Supreme Court appointments within the next 4 years are the only thing keeping me from voting for Obama in 2012. I dislike him as much if not more than anyone here, but I am quickly building a strong distaste for the entire Republican party. The field of primary candidates is pitiful. If this is the best and the brightest in the Republican party, screw them.
  8. I wonder if many who collected them have passed on and the interest in them is beginning to wane a bit.
  9. I'm buying the knives your grandpa used to enjoy.
  10. My favorite knives haven't been produced in a century or so. Winchester, John Primble, Cattaraugus, Remington, Camillus, Keen Kutter, Challenge, New York Knife Co., A.W. Wadsworth, Bridge Cut Co., and Marbles are but a few that catch my eye.
  11. I went to a show today, and while I've not purchased many pocket knives lately, I did look at some, and I was surprised at their prices. I picked up an old John Primble and a Challenge Cut Co. that were both very nice for less than I thought one was worth. I passed on what I thought were several other bargains as well. If you're interested, the show is in Cave City, Ky., and was a very good show. Maybe I did good, or maybe the poor economy has struck the knife collecting world as well.
  12. I thought that was what fingers were for. Anybody have trouble fieldstripping one without the wrench?
  13. I never noticed they were posted. I guess I need to pay more attention. They do have top shelf Mexican cuisine in my opinion.
  14. What is a bushing wrench, and how does it work? I currently have three 1911's, and no bushing wrench.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. I just picked some up, and I really like it. I can't believe I've not tried it before.
  16. I have a friend who's wife left him some years back. One day I asked him if he thought he'd ever get married again. He replied, "Hell no! I've already bought this farm twice...I'll be d@mned if I'm gonna pay for it again." Women can get expensive.
  17. I did dispatch a young opossum this evening with mine at an extimated distance of 10 yards. I missed with the first shot, plowing dirt right next to him. As he began to run, I put the second shot right through his shoulders. I derive more confidence with that than from shooting paper.
  18. Nice stuff!!! If you haven't guessed it by now, I'm a fan of Smiths as well. Oops! I don't know how that old Colt got in the last pic.
  19. Assuming it hasn't been refinished, that appears to be a nice, honest old gun. For a nominal fee, Mr. Roy Jinks, the Smith and Wesson historian, will provide you with a letter stating when the revolver left the factory, where it was shipped, and what configuration it was when shipped. It will also state if the gun has ever been sent back for repair work. The letter would be a nice addition whether selling or keeping it.
  20. Being left handed is the reason I began making holsters. I was a pretty good sized kid before I realized why the other kids could cut paper with scissors, while I could only wrinkle it up.
  21. Wow!!!
  22. Now you can't go and post something like that without pictures!!!
  23. When he says "a lot", he means dumptruck loads of it!!!
  24. I bought some new 257 Roberts brass last year, and there was one 300 Weatherby magnum case among them. Unlike you, I had no problem picking it out. It looked like a trash can next to the brass I wanted.
