  1. Rifle (in my hand), knife and extra ammo (on my belt), and sometimes a climbing stand (on my back). I've deer hunted for many, many years, and I've yet to need anything else. (edited) I also have in my pocket my license, a baggie tie to attach the kill tag to the deer, and a couple of paper towels.
  2. This morning I carried a well used 99 Savage EG chambered for 250-3000. Who says you need a scope for deer hunting? A Lyman tang sight and brass bead will get the job done.
  3. Looks like a copy of an SAA Colt. I wouldn't expect Colt quality at a small fraction of the Colt price, but Cimmaron usually produces some pretty decent stuff for the money.
  4. No, they aren't target guns. They do, however, present a fit and finish not found in today's production guns. I guess I'm just a sucker for old stuff.
  5. If it hasn't changed recently, I do believe it is illegal to take small game with a centerfire rifle or handgun. Check TWRA regs for a difinitive answer.
  6. Your post inspired me to give my old Colt a go. I fired a couple of magazines through it a few minutes ago with no problems. Accuracy wasn't quite what I'd hoped, but daylight was dwindling, and the sights were hard to see. It is a fun gun to shoot; smooth and sure, just like every Colt I've owned. I will say it doesn't fit my hand as well as the 51 Remington or the 1907 Savage pictured below. None of their sights would win any prizes, but they all sucessfully filled a need of a pocket protector for many years. I like pea shooters!
  7. Looks very nice! Thanks for the report.
  8. Hard to choose since I love them all, but "The Coyboys" probably gets the nod, woth "True Grit" a close second. "North to Alaska" was one of the funnier ones.
  9. The worst movie of all time is without a doubt "The Bridges of Madison County"!!!! If a worse movie is ever made, it shall set into motion the end of time.
  10. Wish you were closer. That sounds like a very enjoyable Saturday.
  11. Very interesting. If I've ever heard his name, I don't remember it. I may order this book. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0803217471/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=stucosuccess-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399349&creativeASIN=0803217471 Thanks for sharing.
  12. I'm happy with my Maui Jim's. They were expensive, but I work outdoors, and spend a lot of hours in them. Many cheap sunglasses feel as if they are pulling my eyes and soon cause a headache.
  13. ...or a duck!
  14. I'd try it if it were on a plate, but I'll have to be a lot thinner than I am now before I prepare one myself. I think a lot of dogs.
  15. Is the S.O.B. gearing up to run for elected office or what? I saw him on the 6pm news as well.
  16. My wife seems to have that feeling on a regular basis. Not me! I don't have near enough knives. Same for guns.
  17. You've a very valuable piece. Get it lettered, and do not alter it nor try to shoot it. Congratulations.
  18. That is indeed a model O, or 1873 Colt; not an 1871. Are there the letters "SA" in the serial number? Are they at the beginning, end, or is there an "S" at the beginning, and an "A" at the end? Looks like a nice, honest piece from the pics. The value will be in the four digits anyway; maybe five. Assuming it doesn't have letters, the serial number dates to 1880, which is a black powder frame I do believe. Until you have it looked at by a knowlegeable gunsmith, DO NOT SHOOT MODERN AMMUNITION IN IT!!! I'd advise against it afterward as well.
  19. I do not believe that a hollow point is necessarially better than ball ammo. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. I would be interested in seeing evidence to disprove my thinking, however.
  20. It is more expensive, but how is it better? Especially if it won't reliably function in one's gun.
  21. They are a fun gun for the money. Grab it!
  22. FMJ ammo was what the 1911 was designed to shoot. I see no reason to change that.
  23. I have a 32, but not a 380. They are nice pistols, but I prefer 51 Remington.
  24. I believe a wadcutter would make a fine self defense round. Elmer Keith sure liked a big flat nose on a bullet, and he had a lot of practical experience while testing different bullet designs. I'm a big advocate of "carry what you shoot".
  25. Do the jerky people, knife sharpners, crap hander outers, gutter salesmen, camo folks, fake jewelry hawks, etc., all have FFLs?
