  1. I have a friend who's wife left him some years back. One day I asked him if he thought he'd ever get married again. He replied, "Hell no! I've already bought this farm twice...I'll be d@mned if I'm gonna pay for it again." Women can get expensive.
  2. I did dispatch a young opossum this evening with mine at an extimated distance of 10 yards. I missed with the first shot, plowing dirt right next to him. As he began to run, I put the second shot right through his shoulders. I derive more confidence with that than from shooting paper.
  3. Nice stuff!!! If you haven't guessed it by now, I'm a fan of Smiths as well. Oops! I don't know how that old Colt got in the last pic.
  4. Assuming it hasn't been refinished, that appears to be a nice, honest old gun. For a nominal fee, Mr. Roy Jinks, the Smith and Wesson historian, will provide you with a letter stating when the revolver left the factory, where it was shipped, and what configuration it was when shipped. It will also state if the gun has ever been sent back for repair work. The letter would be a nice addition whether selling or keeping it.
  5. Being left handed is the reason I began making holsters. I was a pretty good sized kid before I realized why the other kids could cut paper with scissors, while I could only wrinkle it up.
  6. Wow!!!
  7. Now you can't go and post something like that without pictures!!!
  8. When he says "a lot", he means dumptruck loads of it!!!
  9. I bought some new 257 Roberts brass last year, and there was one 300 Weatherby magnum case among them. Unlike you, I had no problem picking it out. It looked like a trash can next to the brass I wanted.
  10. Legendary Lawman: The Story of Quick Draw Jelly Bryce I just finished this book, and if you have any interest in the infancy of the FBI, it is a very informative read. Mr. Bryce, it seems, was quite a man. I've also been reading some Hemingway. I'm thinking he's a bit overrated, or else I'm just not refined enough to appreciate great literature.
  11. That does sound like a hoot. Wish it was closer.
  12. I avoid gyms like the plague, so I don't have days like that.
  13. You can't go wrong with the Smith.
  14. An LEO shot another LEO? Surely not!
  15. Wow! I doubt there are that many quail left in Macon county where I live. Bird hunting is one of several things I enjoyed as a boy that my children haven't gotten to experience. I'm glad to see that you all did.
  16. Welcome to Tennessee. I've been to Cahokia, and while I enjoyed visiting the indian mounds there, I didn't find the town itsself very inviting. To answer your question, I don't believe a whole lot can be done about the current moral decline of our society. I expect it will fall eventually, and something new will take it's place. Not the answer you were looking for, but if history repeats itsself.....
  17. TN tourist learns N.Y. gun laws the hard way | The Tennessean | tennessean.com Another good effort, Brian!
  18. Recrowning a barrel is beneficial when cutting one off, or when something has damaged the original crown, such as gravel in the floorboard of your truck scratching it, or dropping the gun on end, etc. A handgun or rifle will not shoot worth a whit without a good, consistant crown. The tool you are looking at isn't a magic wand, however. Recrowning an undamaged barrel shouldn't make much difference.
  19. Congratulations. That's good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
  20. It seems like the roadside is strewn with them for sale until you're looking for one. There's one on HWY 80, near Defeated Creek in Smith county for $375. It appears to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 8'. I haven't stopped and looked at it, but from the road it looks good. Not sure if you want to drive that far, but it has been there a while, so negotiation is a real possibility.
  21. I don't see any good from the Federal Government becoming involved with yet another aspect of our lives.
  22. I think I speak for more than just myself when I ask; "Brian, what is your opinion on the issue?" Off the record and unofficial, of course.
  23. I'm wrong a lot, but I believe you made a shrewd purchase. I expect the price of these to go through the roof in the next few years for all the reasons you mentioned. I squirreled away a while back as well.
  24. Thanks. I haven't seen one in person, and I couldn't tell by the internet pics.
  25. I haven't changed. I started out this way and just gotten bigger and balder. I've Forrest Gumped my way through life for nearly 40 years now, and I'm not likely to change much in the forseeable future. Not the answer you were looking for, but that's all I've got.
