  1. I think a bobcat is one of the most beautiful animals in the woods.
  2. A 35 Whelen is a fine cartridge, more than adequate for whitetail deer. What an odd rule that one is eligible for a "primitive hunt".
  3. Why on earth would they be concerned about a camera? With the recent invasion of digital devices, I'd be amazed by someone there who didn't have a camera.
  4. Everyone here has described the issue accurately. Brian, assuming you are of legal age, and otherwise legally eligible to own a firearm, it is lawful for me, a guy who doesn't have a federal firearm dealer's license, to sell a firearm to you from my private collection. I can do it at my home, your home, the parking lot at Hooter's, etc., or at a gun show. I am not required to submit a background check on you like a dealer would be required to do. The gun show just happens to be a place where those of us who are of like mind tend to congregate to buy, sell, swap, trade, and tell lies. It's really no different from an electronics show, dog show, or guitar show. I cannot legally sell firearms with the intent of making profit, however, without holding an FFL, and adhering to the rules and regulationss associated with it. The law isn't real clear as to how many guns one can sell, or how much profit one could realize without needing the license. I assume that would be the judgement call of a BATFE agent. A non dealer can even rent a table at a show in order to liquidate a collection. It is, however, unlawful to transfer a firearm to an out of state resident if you aren't a dealer. If you buy a firearm from a dealer at a show, you are subjected to the same paperwork and background check as you would be at the dealer's store. Bottom line is that the law doesn't change at the gun show. The same rules and regulations apply there as they do anywhere else. If a person isn't happy with the current law, they should become active in trying to get it changed. The false reporting of "the gunshow loophole" by the mainstream media is a perfect example of why they are currently held in such low esteem by a great number of Americans.
  5. Winchester white box at WalMart. You could buy stuff that's a bit cheaper, but not much.
  6. If I weren't over an hour from the nearest dealership, and had the spare time, I'd go that route as well. If you live out in the sticks like I do, it is a big inconvenience.
  7. We'll want to see pictures of your finished product!
  8. I bought a new Honda a while back, and the owner's manual states that to keep from voiding the warranty, you have to use 0w-20 motor oil in it. All I can find is $8 per quart synthetic oil in that weight. It is a popular car, so I wound't think finding the correct oil would be a problem. Wal Mart shows a 5 qt jug of Mobil 1 synthetic for $27, but I can't locate any in person. I've always used conventional Pennzoil with good results, but I don't think they make this weight. What do you guys use, and where do you get it? I feel somewhat pressured to take it back to the dealer for service. I guess that's the plan, huh?
  9. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 4.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.08 Whadda ya know!??!? I'm right there with Milt Friedman.
  10. The 38 Super would compare ballistacly with the 357, yet is rimless, and wouldn't suffer from the potential feeding issues.
  11. My wife and I both shot my Smith and Wesson Model 18 Combat Masterpiece in 22 long rifle. This was partly due to ammo cost and availability at the time. The shooting portion of the test wasn't difficult, however, as I scored 100%, and her 98%. If a person couldn't pass what we were required, they definitely don't need a carry permit. You will be able to pass it with most anything; don't sweat it!
  12. Ruger made a sweet little bolt rifle chambered for 7.62x39, and I have seen an Interarms mini mauser actioned rifle chambered for the same. I prefer these tiny actions to the full sized Savage, but it's your gun.
  13. Mine is steel, although it appears to be cast instead of forged. The lightweight models from different makers feature aluminum frames. I don't much think RIA makes one of these.
  14. We let our first son name his little brother. I was afraid he'd be named Darth Vader or Spongebob, but I was pleased with the name he chose. It was a big deal for the older brother, and instead of being jealous, he felt he had a part to play with the new baby just as his parents did. I believe this helped our two boys to become very close friends.
  15. The Republican party wants control. Historically, they have shown that when they've gained control, they have no idea what to do with it. Imagine Wiley Coyote actually catching the Roadrunner. "What now?"
  16. Potential Supreme Court appointments within the next 4 years are the only thing keeping me from voting for Obama in 2012. I dislike him as much if not more than anyone here, but I am quickly building a strong distaste for the entire Republican party. The field of primary candidates is pitiful. If this is the best and the brightest in the Republican party, screw them.
  17. I wonder if many who collected them have passed on and the interest in them is beginning to wane a bit.
  18. I'm buying the knives your grandpa used to enjoy.
  19. My favorite knives haven't been produced in a century or so. Winchester, John Primble, Cattaraugus, Remington, Camillus, Keen Kutter, Challenge, New York Knife Co., A.W. Wadsworth, Bridge Cut Co., and Marbles are but a few that catch my eye.
  20. I went to a show today, and while I've not purchased many pocket knives lately, I did look at some, and I was surprised at their prices. I picked up an old John Primble and a Challenge Cut Co. that were both very nice for less than I thought one was worth. I passed on what I thought were several other bargains as well. If you're interested, the show is in Cave City, Ky., and was a very good show. Maybe I did good, or maybe the poor economy has struck the knife collecting world as well.
  21. I thought that was what fingers were for. Anybody have trouble fieldstripping one without the wrench?
  22. I never noticed they were posted. I guess I need to pay more attention. They do have top shelf Mexican cuisine in my opinion.
  23. What is a bushing wrench, and how does it work? I currently have three 1911's, and no bushing wrench.
  24. Thanks for the suggestion. I just picked some up, and I really like it. I can't believe I've not tried it before.
