  1. It is a quality gun, and will appreciate in value as time goes on. It isn't, however, a rare gun, and won't appreciate at a rate any faster than other common quality guns. If you bought it to use, use it. That is why they were made after all.
  2. Yes. Racking the slide cocks the hammer on the Savage. You are correct on your assessment as far as I can tell. I feel there are safer carry guns than the Savage. Here is my 1917. The 1915 Savage was hammerless, and more rare than the 1907 or 1917. I haven't scored one....yet.
  3. Thanks. I picked up a 1917 Savage a while back. I'll have to get a pic of it before long.
  4. I stand corrected. It appears it does have a floating firing pin. I suppose MacGyver is correct about it being safe to carry hammer down. It has been quite some time since I tore mine apart to clean it. I had in my mind that the firing pin was attached to the hammer via some sort of linkage. My memory isn't what it used to be. Sorry for the bad info. The gun shoots great. You'd like one. http://www.vintagepi...7/exploded.html Mine may just have a weak spring, but the safety doesn't seem very positively engaged. It would be easy to inadvertantly jar it into the fire position. If you're looking for a good retro carry gun, I'd suggest you take a look at a 51 Remington. They feel great in the hand, and couldn't be thinner.
  5. With the hammer down, the best I can tell the firing pin rests on the primer. It has a manual safety that when engaged is easily disengaged. There are no further safety features that I'm aware of, i.e. grip safety, rebounding hammer, double action trigger, etc.
  6. I noticed last night that the gunbuster sign on the front door of our local theater has been recently removed! Way to go, Lafayette Cinema. Admission is also $5 for adults, and $3 for kids.
  7. No reproductions that I'm aware of. Get an original and carry it if you want. The way they are designed makes me feel they aren't really safe to carry with one in the chamber, however. An original is common, and not all that expensive. You won't be the only guy packing one.
  8. I'm pretty sure name calling isn't looked upon very highly on this forum. You wouldn't talk this way to someone face to face. Grow up.
  9. Those are good quality commercial mauser action rifles, made in Yugoslovia. I wish we could still import them. I've yet to shoot one that wasn't amazingly accurate. Good buy!!!
  10. Absolutely! I will not support the Republican party until they present a decent candidate, and not "some guy who isn't Obama".
  11. I have an LCP, and for what it is, I love it. I was so excited when I heard the announcement of the LC9. I saw one at the gun store, and laid it back in the case. Why the h3ll did they put a safety on it??!!? An upsized version of the LCP that would chamber 9mm Luger would have been great. Why change anything else about it?
  12. A true conservative wouldn't vote for Romney. This " a vote for anybody but my guy is a vote for evil satan" is truly getting old. You could also say that anyone who doesn't vote for Obama is a vote for Romney. Does that make you feel better?
  13. I'd suggest buying a mil surp m1. I feel they'll hold their value better than a newer production one. There's also something inspiring about holding a piece of history and wondering where all it has been. I have a couple, a well used Winchester, and a pretty nice Inland. They both shoot and function great. The way they are built, I can't see much that could be wrong with one you wouldn't notice with a cursory glance, i.e. broken wood, missing parts, pitted bore, etc.
  14. That is incorrect, and I'm about tired, frankly, of reading that over and over. If I don't vote for Obama, he doesn't get my vote. If I vote for Mickey Mouse, Obama DOESN"T get that vote!!!!!!!! At this point, I'd rather see Obama get reelected as to see Romney be elected, but I assure you neither will be elected by me. Me too!
  15. Nevermind. I just read a bit about her. She's a flaming lib.
  16. Park Overall? The actress??!!?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Overall By golly that's her! I'll vote for her just to hear her talk.
  17. THanks. We'll give him a vote!
  18. You're kidding me!
  19. So who has the best shot at beating this turd in tomorrow's primary? You tell me, and they'll get one, if not two extra votes.
  20. It has been my experience that "Dick's" is properly named.
  21. This hasn't been updated for the "executive order".
  22. LOL! You have NO idea of what DLM37015 means by "stocking up". I expect he bought a gigantic warehouse somewhere and filled it.
  23. You would, however, have to go to a LOT of WalMarts to purchase 6000 rounds of ammo.
  24. I'll give a little different opinion. I suggest you shoot what you carry, and carry what you shoot. Semi auto handguns, for the most part, are designed to shoot ball ammo.
  25. Why the difference is stark! ...one has longer hair.
