  1. Dammit! I may have a problem.
  2. If you are able to count them, you are still all right. Why does anyone know how many guns you have?
  3. I'd like to see you shoot a 50 BMG from a 12 guage shotgun and measure the bullet speed with your chrono.
  4. Thanks for starting this thread. I may be interested in one as well, and know nothing about them.
  5. Sir, I believe Mercury One is talk show host Glenn Beck's charity. He claims that every penny donated to the disaster fund there goes directly to help. Take that for what it's worth, but I trust his heart.
  6. Congratulations and a big thank you.
  7. Nice buck. Too bad about the car. Glad she wasn't hurt.
  8. Perhaps you should shave with it before shipping it off.
  9. ...many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many many, many, many, results!
  10. Good information. I do not have a chronograph, so I haven't concerned myself with standard deviations to this point. Might be something to play with in the future. I have found guns responding more to a change in seating depth than a change in powder weight. I also measure the overall length, as I don't have equipment to measure the length to the bullet ogive, nor the barrel throat. My method requires more shooting and blind luck than yours. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Shoot what you carry, and carry what you shoot.
  12. It would be quite fitting if one day your dog attacked you. If you don't have anything constructive to add to this thread, I imagine everyone here would appreciate you not posting in it any more.
  13. I live on 8 acres, and have a 100 yard range, and a place to build a 200 yard bench, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Had we built the house closer to the road, I could have doubled that distance. What's more important than how much land is what is around it. I've never had a neighbor complain about shooting, but have had a few come shoot with me. Another thing to consider is what you plan to do with the land. Cattle farm? Row cropping? Hay? I have two boys who like to get out in the yard and play ball, so I mow a LOT of grass.
  14. My doggie approves...upside down... ...as well as right side up.
  15. WASR.
  16. I'd probably trade something a bit more "practical" for one of those. I have a Carcano I'd consider useless. A box of ammo is worth more than the rifle, and you could throw it more accurately than you could shoot it. Shoot a mag full from it, and you'd agree that theres no way Kennedy was killed with one.
  17. Deja Vu all over again.
  18. Me too. You never know who will get arrested or assume room temperature between now and election day. I remember people in one state a few years back whining because they early voted, only to find that their candidate died before election day.
  19. It is complicated, and changes each year. If you have specific questions, those of us who have followed it for decades will be happy to get you up to speed.
  20. I took my oldest son this morning. We saw nothing but rain showers and howling wind. I took my youngest this afternoon. He wasn't patient enough. We jumped several on the way back to the truck, but he didn't get a shot. The wind is still at gale force. Supposed to be worse tomorrow. I do not know how to hunt in wind.
  21. I hope the baby didn't get the gene from him that causes him to be an a$$hole.
  22. The two at the bottom are 101 Savages. If you aren't familiar with them, although they appear to be a revolver, the cylinder is fake, and they are actually a single shot 22LR. I don't see any real utility to a single shot 22 handgun other than the cute factor.
  23. I wonder how Obama's daughters enjoyed the ad.
  24. If I thought my dog would ever harm anyone, I'd shoot it myself. I do not intend to own a dangerous animal, and believe it is poor judgement for anyone else to own one.
  25. Update: I finally caught the owner at home. Had a good talk with him. He seemed surprised his dog would attempt to bite anyone. I thanked him for tying his dog, and we parted on good, neighborly terms. As for all the other garbage overtaking this thread, I'd say those of you who wouldn't put a suffering stray dog out of it's misery are more cruel than those that would. If Macon county has an SPCA, I'm not aware of it. Here, we still take care of matters ourselves rather than relying on the government. That's the way the entire country used to be. Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions and advice. I am pleased I didn't have to shoot the guy's dog. However, I will lose no sleep over it if I need to in the future, as he has been informed of the problem. I don't feel like it will come to that, as he still has it tied.
