1. I'm pretty sure that's how most AKs are built, except the furniture is made from recycled park benches and pallets rather than shovel handles. Great article. Thanks for sharing.
2.
You just always hear people talk about how accurate AR's are, guess I'm expecting too much.
A lot of that is talk. I prefer to see an actual group shot before putting much stock in talk. Try some different loads; perhaps with lighter bullets. You'l likely find one your gun really likes with enough luck and/or dilligence.
3. Very interesting piece of history. I'm glad to see things like this end up in the hands of people who appreciate them. I agree with you that it is a very good investment.
4. Personally, I can't do all that well with a military two stage trigger.
5. I don't have an AR, but my ol' pappy has a Colt HBAR that'll shoot dime sized groups at 100 yards with it's favorite handload. My mini 14 Ruger is getting 2-3' groups with most everything I've tried.
6. Not yet, but I'm interested in following your progress!
7. I'm a big fan of Bullseye powder for target handgun loads. I loaded 20 rounds of 7x57, 20 rounds of 223, 400 rounds of 45 ACP, and 150 rounds of 38 Special last night and this morning on a single stage press. It didn't take very long at all.
8. There are some less expensive models only available at Wal Mart. I believe the Marlin 30AW is such an example. Other than that, being the same make and model, the Walmart gun rolls off the same assembly line as the one at Joe's gun shop.
9. They are both in your house?
10. Get it. They are a lot of fun, and I think one would make a passable deer rifle.
11. Whadda ya got against wood? Welcome to the forum.
12.
Officer Fired....Thoughts !
Good riddance?
13. Save your gas & money in my opinion.
14. Depends on whether you'd prefer to make 22 or 30 caliber holes. Unless you are trying for tiny groups, ammo for either is cheap and plentiful enough to forego reloading.
15. Monarch shoots just fine in my Mini 14. Don't know about an AR.
16. I would like to uncase one of those at a turkey shoot and see the expressions on everyone's face.
17. I think I'd like to have one as well, but I believe I'll sit out the buying frenzy and pick one up after it has settled down.
18. As others have stated, I would also suggest you start with a single stage press to get the hang of things. You can buy a Lee press pretty inexpensively. Then, if you still want a progressive press, you'll still find occasional uses for the single stage, such as new load development, or any time you just want to load a few to try for whatever reason.
19. I am glad you asked the question before giving it a shot on your own. As others have said, pick up a reloading manual and read it before you go any further. I do not know of a powder that would work for both a 45 and a 223. If there is, it certainly isn't ideal. Pistols and shotguns use a real fast burning powder, while rifles need a powder with a much slower burn rate. As you have more questions, there are many knowledgeable people here who I'm sure will be glad to assist you. Were you closer, I'd be glad to walk you through the process. I expect there are others closer to you who'd do the same.
20. Yeah....that looks real handy.
21. What is that one thing that, no matter what, UT always does Derrick Dooley?
22. Thanks everybody. It has been a good day. We spent the afternoon preparing it to make jerky. He doesn't understand why I'd rather see him get a deer than to get one myself. He'll understand when he has kids of his own.
23. Can I get a big ANCHOR DOWN!!! for those Dores??!!!??
24.
Allow me to assist Nice looking deer.
How'd you do that?
25.
Dang! Good for you and your son, that's a nice deer. ...I like the gun, too!
The rifle is special. My father (his grandfather) built one for each of my boys.
