  1. A 12 pack, a #2 pencil, and forms and publications picked up at the library. I refuse to pay someone to help me pay taxes.
  2. Tandy leather has a great youtube video on leather carving. I watched it, followed his instructions, and it didn't turn out too bad. I've practiced some, and it is getting better, but not to where I'd like to be so far.
  3. I don't expect it to still be there when you go back.
  4. It often varies from gun to gun. You'll need to work up a load that suits yourself. I would start with the minimum load listed in your manual. Load a few there, a few more with an extra 1/10th grain of powder, a few with an additional 2/10ths, and so on. Shoot them and see what does best.
  5. Ruger, Interarms, Sako, and perhaps others have produced really neat bolt rifles with the actions sized for the 223. A model 7 Remington is also a nice little package that can be had in 223. To each his own, but I do not care for a detachable magazine on a bolt rifle.   Good luck getting better accuracy from a bolt rifle than from the average AR. As far as range, you've got the same bullet moving the same speed from either rifle. If you just want a bolt rifle, there's no shame in it. You don't have to justify it with reason. Trust me.
  6. I would also suggest a single stage press for a beginner. Later, if you feel the need to upgrade to a turret press or even a progressive, you'll still find occasional uses for the single stage press. I've been loading for 30 years now, and haven't really wanted to go beyond the single stage press.
  7. They seem like very nice people there. I've bought quite a bit of reloading supplies from them lately. They sure do ask a lot of questions while you are there, but I guess they are just trying to be nice and helpful.
  8. Anybody else reload this brass? It sure seems to me like the primer pockets are quite loose after a couple of firings.
  9. No, I bought it from a guy on 24hourcampfire.com. I haven't been able to find a link to him lately, and I don't know whether he still makes them or not. I think he might have lived somewhere around Clarksville. He also made a couple for me that hold 38 spl speedloaders. They are pretty neat.
  10. I don't have a "regiment", but I will regularly throw a bunch of brass in the tumbler and run it.It's kinda like the dishwasher; you don't have to stand and watch it. I like relatively clean brass because it looks better, it's easier to see potential problems with it, and it goes through the sizing die easier. I also don't like having black fingers after loading a few rounds.   As for longevity, I have worn out high power, bottleneck rifle cases, but I've about decided you can reload a 38 special indefinitely.
  11. Yours looks good! The one I made to carry looks a bit girly, but hey! nobody will see it anyway. Making your own is a great way to get what you want.
  12. All good here. My wife woke us all up about 3am, and insisted we go in the basement. My dog was as confused and perturbed as the boys and I were. Why can't she go by herself and let us sleep?   Better safe than sorry I suppose.
  13. I hear ya, but we didn't get in this mess overnight, and won't correct it overnight either. People are going to have to feel some pain first. I can see it starting to happen. I am glad Obamacare goes fully in effect next year before the midterm elections. It'll be a major tipping point in changing the makeup of congress next year. The reason you can't find an AR or ammo at a store right now isn't solely because of speculators. People are getting very apprehensive.
  14. You can load for about half price or less the cost of cheap factory ammo, and get better quality ammo in the process. You can expect to spend around $200 minimum for an entry level setup. Unless you load a LOT of ammo, you will probably add items later, but likely you won't need to upgrade what you bought originally.   In theory, you can save money reloading, but I don't know anyone who actually has. You'll just get to shoot more.   The real savings in reloading comes with odd calibers.
  15. If you bought a 3 die set, you are in business. There is a sizing/decapping die, a case mouth expander die, and a seating die. Others will argue, but a crimp die isn't necessary in my opinion. The 9mm headspaces on the mouth of the case, so all you want to do in the way of crimping is to remove the bell from the mouth of the case that was made by the expander die, which aids in bullet seating. This can be done by proper adjustment of the bullet seating die. Sounds more complicated than it is.
  16. Ever hear of Glenn Beck and Blaze TV? There are people working on alternative media, and I believe it will change the way we gather news and information. Today, the mainstream media are quickly making themselves irrevelent. You won't see it overnight, but the majority of people watching the 6oclock news are old codgers. They'll soon die out and no one will replace them.   As the media gets worse and worse, people will simply turn them off. Most news channels keep losing ratings each year, and many newspapers are bankrupting. You won't have to do anything to the media; they are commiting suicide.
  17. I bought a semi auto in the last three months, and already own a semi auto. I probably bought one in the three months previous to that, and will right likely buy another in the coming three months. You could say the same for most any three month period in my life since I was a small child.   How is this bad behavior, and a low point for humans?   I'm not hoarding anything. I just like guns. You aren't getting on the bandwagon of "wants versus needs" are you?
  18. I use Lee CARBIDE pistol reloading dies. If you want to spend more, you could buy RCBS, Lyman, Redding, etc., but they all do the same thing. I do suggest you spend the extra few bucks for the carbide sizing button on dies for straightwalled cases.
  19. Apparently, it isn't legal to sell a used mattress. To get around that, I've seen auctioneers at estate auctions sell another item of little value, and if you buy it, you get a free mattress. If you aren't scared by the liability of someone else shooting your reloads, you may be able to legally do something like that.
  20. I'm with Caster. I use the Lee trimmer, and it trims to length. If it is the correct length or shorter, the trimmer doesn't cut anything off. I guess you could say the Lee trimmer does the measuring for you.
  21. Welcome. I've found that the more prepared you are, the less emergencies you will likely face.
  22.   Some good presidential material in this list.
  23. So this administration is sending AKs to Mexican drug lords, Fighter jets and Tanks to Muslim extremists, and wants me to turn in my rifle. :ugh:  Seriously??!!??
  24. I emailed Dianne Black and asked why she didn't sign the letter. I got back the same damned form letter I get every time I email her.
