I believe that the United States began with a population of people, the majority of whom, loved and served God. God blessed this country with the unprecedented prosperity we've enjoyed, and God will see to it's downfall if we continue to turn our backs on him.

In my opinion, IMR4350 is THE powder for 30-06.

Did you trim and chamfer the case mouths? What are you loading?
-
Does it work correctly in it's original configuration?

My father is a big fan of the Contenders. I've tried to like them, as they are a high quality, unique firearm. I just can't seem to take to them for some reason. I expect you'll really enjoy yours.

Looks good! An M1a or M14 is on my wish list. I'm with spots, however, in that I prefer wood. I guess I'll have to pretend my mini14 is one for now.

I'm left handed, which limits my availability in traditional styled blackpowder guns. That was a main determining factor in me buying a Thompson. After getting it, I found it to be a very high quality gun for the money. A left handed anything isn't real authentic as far as I know.

Become a benefactor and advertise them for sale or trade here on the forum. I'm curious as to what you have. I may be interested in some if not all of it.

In practical hunting situations using the right ammunition for the conditions, you will never see a real difference between the two. Were it me, I'd get the 308, but I have a couple of boxes of ammo laying around and no 308 rifle.

Need help identifying/valuing an old L C Smith Field Grade 20g SXS
gregintenn replied to musicman's topic in Long Guns
http://www.lcsmith.org/shotguns/manufacture.html According to the link above, it should have been made in 1942. Does it have ejectors or extractors? Looks like about 26" barrels? How are they choked? I'd like to either see it in person, or see some better pictures to give an estimate, but I'm guessing it would be in the $800-$1000 range from what I see and what you've described. -
There are some very kind offers in this thread. Thanks to all of you willing to help. I would prefer jacketed bullets just because I'm lazy. I have some; more than I'll shoot for a while. I loaded some light loads for a friend's kid so he can shoot and deer hunt with them this year, and was looking to replace them. Not a big deal. It's just irritating not being able to find something so common. Everybody says this shortage is temporary, but it's been a loooooooooong temporary. Anyway, I have another rifle or two in other calibers I can shoot until I find more bullets. :)

Oil them and wear them. Redwing sells a fantastic boot oil. Neatsfoot will work too. Water will make them stiffer when they dry.

I would suggest you keep an eye out for a used Thompson Center Renegade, Hawken, or the like. They are high quality, and can be found for a song. You also may want to buy a kit and build your own. If so, Dixie Gun Works is the Toys R Us of black powder. I like shooting them, but despise the clean up that follows. I find the deer hunting opportunities during muzzleloader season are far better than rifle season.

What if all of this is for nothing
gregintenn replied to UncleJak's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Perhaps being prepared will rub off on my children. I don't really expect to see something truly catastrophic in my lifetime, but I fear they will. Also, I find the better prepared you are, the fewer emergencies you encounter. That, or else being prepared turns a dire emergency into a minor inconvenience. -
My suggestion as well. It may not be you, but that is the cheapest, easiest place to start checking for problems. It is also usually the problem when I have a handgun that won't shoot to the point of aim. I've found that shooting a handgun well isn't an easy thing to do; at least not for me.

I'm trying not to complain, although I'm going to wear my mower out before winter. Last year, it was well over 100 degrees each day for more than two weeks solid. It was so dry the leaves on the trees here dried up and fell off. I work outdoors, and much prefer this year's weather to that of last year.

Interest in Buying a Crate of Mosins

I have the same thing. Unfortunately, my wife does NOT share this interest. :stick: -
I need to get into the shipping business!
gregintenn replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
That is correct. I find it odd, however, that powder and primers are considered haz-mat, while ammunition is not. Just about all the ammunition I've purchased contained both powder and primers all together in one package. -
Stag Grips from Grasshorn Gunworks.......very pleased
gregintenn replied to Tennjed's topic in Handguns
Nice looking stuff! I've bought a couple pair from Patrick, and have been very pleased as well. These look like ivory in the picture above. I really like those, and don't guess I've ever seen any like them. -
Mr. Cooper had his version of the perfect 1911, just as most everyone else who's tinkered with them does. After several years of buying, selling, shooting, adding, subtracting, and modifying parts, I've found my perfect 1911 is one of the least expensive I've owned. It is a Rock Island Armory with an officer sized grip frame, and a 4" barrel. I added an Colt ambi safety, three dot sights, and a pair of Grashorn Elk Stag grips. I can't find anything else to do to it. It shoots and feels great, good trigger, and is dead reliable. Sometimes you get more than what you pay for.
