Yeah, I'm still not convinced it's a headspace problem. Could be, but I'm not sure with the information provided. A bad box of ammo isn't exactly rare.

Right. There are some folks out there who'd love to buy it for parts or for a project, however.

Unless it's a pre 64 model, or a family heirloom, it would be financially better to trade it off than to sink a bunch of money in it. They are common and aren't that expensive. I'm not sure any of mine have a serial number on the barrel.   In 1964, Winchester was bought out, and the new bean counters redesigned the model70 to a push feed design similar to a 700 Remington or model 10 Savage. (Think smooth bolt with no claw extractor). In the late 80's or early 90's, Winchester came out with the "Classic" action that resembled the pre 64 claw extractor action.   Sam Hoster in Gallatin would be my first thought. If the locking lugs are set back into the receiver, I believe I'd send it down the road.

I can't wrap my head around why this happens. Is the Winchester a push feed model, or one with a claw extractor?   Anyway, the barrel will need to be set back a full turn to keep things lined up correctly and rechambered. You can do it with a lathe, or else it'll need to go to a gunsmith.   I wonder how it got in that condition.   Does it appear that the bolt lugs have set back into the receiver? If so, a steady diet of overpowered handloads may be the culprit.   Your average gunsmith should already have a finish reamer for a 7mm mag. If not, I'd likely go else ware.

I don't follow you. A 30-40 Krag should have a .308 bore diameter. What is the bore of the barrel on your rifle? Couldn't you just load 30-40 Krag cases with bullets of the proper diameter rather than rechambering?

Less than minimum headspace requires a finish reamer. I would think you couldn't close the bolt on a live round were that the case. Excessive headspace requires cutting the shoulder of the barrel, extending the threads in order to install the barrel another turn, cutting the face of the chamber, and then possibly the finish reamer.   Was the bolt difficult to close on a live round? Is it a factory barrel? Could it possibly be faulty ammunition?   An easy check for excessive headspace would be to take a hole punch and cut two thicknesses of paper, and place them between the boltface and a round of ammunition. If the bolt will close on this arrangement, you have excessive headspace.   You do realize the 7mm mag headspaces on the belt, right?

In the interest of honesty, it was a pitiful exhibition last night, and in my opinion, both teams should have lost were it possible.

I see lots of deer rifles with 6.5x20s and the like mounted on them. Nothing wrong with a 3x9, as long as it's default setting is 3x. :D Ever jump a deer right at your feet, throw your rifle up in it's direction, and can't make out anything through the hubble telescope mounted on top of an otherwise handy rifle? I did as well, and most everyone here told me I wasted my vote. Well, had I voted for Romney, Obama would still be president. Wouldn't that have wasted my vote as well? At least this way both the S.O.B.s know there is a faction of people who don't want either of them. If more people would vote their convictions, we could do some good.

Contrary to local public opinion, bigger isn't necessarily better in regards to riflescopes; especially those used for deer hunting. I find a quality 3x or 4x to be just about perfect.

The sandwich in #24 hits close to home for me.

It wasn't a salesman. It was a private party seller. I didn't think about it being a flood. That makes sense. He gave some story about the guy he bought it from damaging and replacing the front bumper and grille, and said there was a chance the title may come back that way. That doesn't really add up now that I think about it.   It was a fairly nice little truck for the money, and my teenage son was heartbroken; it was to be his first wheels.

I was in the process of buying a truck from a guy, and  I told him "I'll take it". He filled out the back of the title, and I wrote the check. When we went to trade, I noticed two big words on the title; "Rebuilt Title".   Now I take pride in being a man of my word, and I feel really bad for crawfishing on the guy, but he never mentioned this before, and there is absolutely no evidence of body work on the truck.   Since I agreed to buy it and didn't, did I do this guy wrong? I feel torn about it. Not sure I did the right thing, but I also feel he misrepresented the truck by omission.

My neighbor has a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. As far as I know, every time he pulls the trigger, he comes home with a deer on his tailgate. I can't say the same for some of my neighbors suffering from "magnumitis".

The listed fps on the box is quite a bit lower than what my reloading book gives for the handload I was shooting.   I've shot Magtech ammo in a few different calibers, and have never noticed anything resembling high pressures. I've found their ammo to be very accurate and good in all respects. The brass is good for reloading as well.   Never heard that before.

It's a hair dryer with a barrel; don't sweat it! I swear I don't see the attraction to those things.

My shoulder thought so! Did I mention that little s.o.b. kicks like a mule? The handloads were noticeably louder and had more recoil than the Magtech stuff.   A sane person would just shoot the factory stuff, but I want a handload that shoots as good, and near the same point of impact.
