1. Never again for me.
2. Hope you get him!
3. Nice deer and welcome to TGO!
4. I haven't heard David's story. I'd like to. Would you have a link if it's posted on here?
5. It isn't a high power rifle cartridge. How much penetrating does a 45 ACP do? I'm asking because I have no idea, but I don't suspect over penetration is as big a concern as missing. I wouldn't expect that big, slow hunk of metal to go through an adult and have enough remaining energy to do much.   Heck, they don't penetrate air real well.
6. It appears in the picture that he used an RPG or something similar. :stunned:   Nice buck!
7. I've read this since Al Gore invented the internet, but I've yet to see a case in which someone was prosecuted due to the fact they defended themselves with handloaded ammunition. Can you cite a case?
8. That's how I usually handle it.
9. We have a pretty good local butcher. I'll take a deer to him if it isn't going to be cold enough for it to hang in the barn. I don't know if he offers jerky, and I prefer my own sausage to his. His hamburger meat, steaks, etc. are acceptable to me, and if I don't have the time to process one, $60 seems like a bargain to me.
10. I've tried it and prefer to slice the meat.
11. I've got jerky strips marinating, deer meat and pork fat cubed and soaking up spices so I can grind breakfast sausage tomorrow. Backstrips are sliced and packaged.  I'll start drying jerky tomorrow evening.   The fun's over when you pull the trigger. I don't know why I shot the second one. Butchering one deer is a big job. 2.....well, it's twice as much.   We took the deer my son killed in juvenile season to the butcher shop for steaks and ground burger. It looks like the freezer will be well stocked for another year. Now it's time to trophy hunt.   Do you enjoy butchering deer? Me, not so much.
12. 230 ball on top of 5 grains of Bullseye. If the question involves a 45 ACP, this is the answer.
13. Twenty bucks says your kids can breach a gun lock faster than you can. At least that would be the case at my house. You can't hide everything from a child, nor can you protect them from everything. Your kids might actually need a gun one day, and at that point a good education will beat the fire out of a cable lock.
14. I would suggest you teach your children gun safety. You won't protect them from everything through life, and learning to think for one's self would serve them better than any helmet, lock, etc. you could buy.
15. Are they water proof? The one thing I remember about riding street bikes is that the further I got away from home, the harder it would rain. Why not just carry it on you?
16. Thanks. I'm 5'10"   You should get yourself a Savage.
17. A Mora kniv is the best deal in the cutlery world I'm aware of.
18. Thanks! I just ordered two charging handles, an upper receiver vice block, and an armorer's tool from them.
19. I usually hunt whenever I have the free time and the weather is passible.
20. I prefer to hunt in the morning, as I tend to see more deer then. Most of the good bucks I've taken have been in the middle of the day, however. I just can't seem to force myself to go hunting in the middle of the morning and sit through the day. Years back I have sat in a stand from shooting light to dusk. I don't have that level of interest in it anymore.
21. It was COLD this morning, but the deer were moving. This is the first time I've carried this old 303 Savage, and though it's old, it still works. A doe and a small 6 point buck. No scope! :D Good luck to everyone, and have a great Thanksgiving! Gregintenn butcher shop will be in operation tomorrow. These will be sausage and jerky.
22. You are correct. Anyway, If I bought a complete upper from them, it wouldn't be a "TGO" upper that I already paid for.
23. I don't know why they made the 91/30. The carbine is the thing to have.
24. Maybe they're just really fond of each other. Looks like they're slow dancing.   I'd hate to see them in the showers after the game.
25. He gave me a pretty good price on a complete upper; probably less than I can build one for myself, and I also wouldn't have to buy the tools. I also thought it would be neat to have an entire matching rifle from a Tennessee company.   Parts are now available, but still not plentiful, and I don't have the patience to hunt them.   I dunno. Just a thought.
