I'd go with these or 60 grain Nosler Partitions. I see no reason why a well placed shot from a 223 wouldn't reliably kill a deer. Technically, all you need to do is either disrupt the nervous system, cause massive blood loss, or both, and BOOM; you've got your carcass. Why a Whizzbang magnum would do this better than a 223 is beyond me. I assure you an AR would be much better suited to the task than a bow and arrow, but still somehow people manage to keep bringing deer home with them.

I picked up some Hot Shot 7.62x39 last year at Academy. I can't tell any difference between it and Wolf or Tula. I've got to pick up a chronograph soon.

The Chapel Hill area seems nice to me if you are relocating to be near southeast Nashville. If Oak Ridge is a possibility, perhaps Crossville?

There's a lot to do around downtown Chattanooga. I would also suggest staying at one of our state parks, in an inn or cabin. Fall Creek Falls is beautiful. Henry Horton and Montgomery Bell are nice as well. Knoxville and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge areas suck in my opinion. The Big South Fork of the Cumberland River is a beautiful area as well. What are you looking for, exactly?

No, but I do enjoy seeing it. James Franklin is a great coach. I believe you'll see great things at Penn State in a couple of seasons. Vandy will be back to being the redheaded stepchild of the SEC again until they get a real coach; probably a new athletic director as well.

Did you miss last season? They suck in spades, but this week they got a win, and UT got their butts handed to them, so I'm going to enjoy this while it lasts.

They have an Anderson AR upper/lower receiver package for $90. I'd like to gather the parts needed for both my boys to build themselves a rifle, and this looks like a fair price. What do you think? http://fatboytactical.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=377

If you want a recoil pad, just order one of your liking from Brownells, Gamaliel Shooting Supply, etc. You'll need to fit most ay you buy. You'd be more than lucky to take an original buttplate from one 1897 and put it on another one ant it fit correctly. Aftermarkets plates or pads are purchased oversized and cut to fit.

  :panic: :wall: :wall: You guys are going to get me divorced!!! I'm out, but I'll say the AR 15 receiver set I bought from them last year was top shelf all the way!

Civil Unrest Thread got me thinking.

How much other cr@p do you sit around worrying about? Meteors? UFOs? Dragons? Be prepared for life in general, and then get out there and live it. -

I'd say Rocco was lucky to have a friend like David. There's few things in life I've found tougher to deal with than losing a good dog. Sorry to hear it.

A white guy? Somebody had to say it!

They looked pretty solid to me.

....and it's been thoroughly promoted by our federal government officials.

No. They should be held accountable of coming up with a stupid idea like "hate crime". How can you adjudicate thought or intent? Actions and outcomes should be the only thing judged in assault type crimes. I guess I would be more clear in stating that emotion should not be accounted for in the courtroom.
-
How much money, exactly, did it cost your friend to sign two pieces of paper? Do you know how many laws there are between U.S., Tennessee, and local city and county governments? There's no way any team of legal experts, let alone one low paid local law enforcement officer could be expected to "know the laws". I will agree that if he's in doubt, he should be able to access said law for clarification. Nobody here would accuse me of being pro law enforcement, but you are being a bit ridiculous. How would you explain a "speed trap"? There are definitely areas where speeding tickets are a major source of revenue for a small city or county.
-
If there has ever been a black on white crime prosecuted as a "hate crime", I am unaware of it.

As far as I know, legally, you can. There are lots of things you can legally do, but nonetheless are bad ideas. This would fall into that category. I can see a lot of bad coming from doing what you propose, but no good.

Lee Hand Loader For Smaller Cartridges?
gregintenn replied to Sidewinder's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
From Wikipedia for what it's worth. I loaded .224 for mine. You'll find "Bee" bullets to be flat point because Winchester once made a tube fed lever rifle in 218 Bee. "Hornet" bullets will likely have a Spitzer or round nose profile, as there aren't any tube fed rifles chambered for the Hornet that I am aware of. Either will work in your loads. Any .224 40-45 grain bullets should be suitable. -
Lake City surplus, Remington, or if you could find one of the Federal Value packs, these all seem to be very accurate in any of my rifles. 300 meters? I believe the OP mentioned 50 yards. I wouldn't doubt a heavier bullet shooting a tighter group at extended distances with the faster twist, but at 50 yards, he should be getting better than 4-5" groups with 55 grain ammo.

I'm not David, and I'm not in North Carolina, so I guess I don't have to worry about picking up a new gun tomorrow. I am interested to see what it is.

Our legislators should not recognizes Illinois carry permits.

Why the hell would you want to do anything just because Illinois does it? -
Assuming you were shooting from a rest, in my opinion, a 4-5 inch group is unacceptable. Might be o.k. were you firing from an offhand position. I believe a 1 in 7 twist barrel should stabilize a 55 grain bullet at 223 speeds. I would try some different ammo before thinking about another barrel. Is your sight securely mounted? Have you fired this ammo with open sights?

A Mauser chambered for a caliber one can find and afford is an awesome thing. Look for values to continue to rise steadily on them.
