  1. Now those are cool! Granddaddy would call that a trombone action.
  2. Tell him Merry Christmas. That is all.
  3. Cool! I only have the one. I do have two M1 Carbines though. They’re fun too.
  4. The internet says both are open now.
  5. I bought a really nice H&R a few years back for $950. I thought that was a good price. Prices seem to have climbed since then, and a Springfield tends to command a premium over an H&R for whatever reason. I'd agree $1200 sounds about right. Every gun guy should own a Garand. They are great fun to shoot. There are currently three Springfield Garands in the classifieds here. Two appear to be in very good condition and are priced at $1600 and $1650. The third does not appear to be in as good a condition as the others, and it is priced at $1000. None has sold yet.
  6. I like to wander around a gun show with a pocket full of money. Something will catch your eye.
  7. I’d like to hear about the trip once you get back. Sounds awesome!
  8. Worth it to me, but I like reloading and the quality and versatility it provides.
  9. You might get better advice with just a touch more detail as to what you’re looking for.
  10. A lever rifle and cast bullet. That’s old school. I like it!
  11. Thanks for the hint. I have a use for these. I’ll give them a try.
  12. Fine grit sandpaper, spray with clear oat.
  13. If you shoot it enough, you’ll be surprised what it is capable of.
  14. I probably shoot my LCP more than any handgun I own. It is what I carry, and I would like to be proficient with it.
  15. Antique Winchesters (and Marlins) are the stuff dreams are made of. Their quality is just unbelievable. They were made by craftsmen who took great pride in their work.
  16. And I bet you won’t argue with my statement.
  17. If you can locate a decent pre 64 Winchester 94 in 30-30 or 32 Special, you will have yourself a real prize.
  18. I thought this was why we married women, huh?
  19. I’ve about decided people were not designed to live so close together.
  20. I have a kid who lives within walking distance of there. Not good.
  21. I sure wanted to go this morning, but here I sit tending a turkey on the smoker. Surely some of you got to hunt today.
  22. I shoot both 38 specials and 357 in my Rossi Puma. Some folks claim wadcutters won’t feed well in some lever rifles. I have the Rossi in 357 and an 1894 Marlin chambered in 44 Magnum. I’ve been happy with both. They are both older models and not recent production. I also have an 1894 Marlin in 38-40. It’s over a hundred years old. It’s fun to shoot, but you’d want to handload for it as well. I’m not trying to dissuade you from the 45-70. I’d just suggest you price ammo for it, and maybe shoot someone else’s. They are easy to sell if you get one and decide you don’t like it though. A 39 Marlin 22lr is sure a fun little rifle!
  23. Although the 99 Savage was chambered for a bunch of different cartridges, oddly, the 35 Rem was one they overlooked.
  24. I like your style!
  25. I cannot name a more perfect whitetail rifle than a 99 Savage EG chambered in 300 Savage. Maybe an R if you’re long range shooting over a field, or an F or T if you do a lot of walking or climbing, but the EG is the perfect all around whitetail rifle.
