Which model do you have? Mojave's? Cascade? Acadia? I like Leupold scopes. My father has a pair of Gold Ring binos, but they are no longer in production. They are nice glass.
-
Tell me about them. I'm looking for a pair for deer hunting, and shopping for them is an exercise in frustration. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'm thinking I want 8x, and larger than the compact models.

Deer tenderloin and biscuits sure made a good breakfast this morning!  -
I think there is one this weekend in Carthage. I'd like a report on that if anyone went.
-
It was just kids. What I figured, but you never know anymore.
-
Took him at least 5 minutes to turn around if that was the case. I figure it was just some dumba$$ teenage boys if I had to guess. I'm just afraid that some people around wouldn't have handled it as well. I'd hate to see a kid shot over something innocent, but a lot of folks are on edge over recent events.

I expect the police handled this well. Don't tell the media squat until it's over.

Some genius pulls up in my driveway, headlights shining in my bedroom window, in a loud diesel pickup, revving the engine. I get up, put on my pants, stick a pistol in my pocket, and go out to introduce myself to this genius. About halfway there, he must have decided he needed to be somewhere else in a hurry. Now I was in the mood to have a frank conversation with this guy, but I guess this was the best outcome that could have happened. I figure it was some kids with a few too many beers, but what are parents teaching their children these days? This would have gotten your windshield perforated at a lot of peoples' homes. I'm about to give up on humankind. :shake:

Local talk is that he wasn't in it alone. I hope they get everyone involved. A public hanging would be ideal, but won't ever happen today. This guy can't be dead enough quick enough for me.

I haven't touched a rifle this morning, but that's o.k. Little man got his first deer, a doe. 200+ yard shot. Of course my ol' pappy comes by with this monster 8 he killed this morning. Despite the hot weather and gale force winds here, it's been a good morning. Time to make the jerky! :no1: I took off work next week, so maybe I'll get to hunt then. -
They've caught the S.O.B.! A lady was interviewing him on the news. I don't see how anyone could do that without leaning over and strangling him. http://www.wdrb.com/story/30571307/scottsville-ky-man-charged-with-kidnapping-rape-murder-in-death-of-7-year-old I hope his fellow inmates take care of him, as I don't have much faith our justice system will.

Aperture sight reccomendation for Marlin 336

If you ever find yourself up this way, I'd be happy to let you try out my Williams and see how you like it before you buy anything. An aperture sight is a big improvement over factory sights. -

You might tread carefully into the vintage sight world, as it can be as expensive and exciting as a bad gun habit. :D :D :D I'd search out a Lyman 21 (Climbin' Lyman) if money were no object. -
It seems traveling has been adventurous for him this year. I hope next year slows down for him.

I'm a fan of tang sights, but there isn't a decent one being manufactured today. You'll need to peruse ebay and similar sites for old Marbles, Lyman, etc. The closer you can get the aperture to your eye, the better. -

Williams Foolproof is the best currently being manufactured in my opinion. People speak well of the Skinner, but I don't care for the looks of them. -
Think positive. This is the best excuse I can think of for buying that new chainsaw you've always wanted.

This old 303 Savage will probably get some woods time before next week is over. -

I do like the old Savages. The new ones are great, but pretty went by the wayside for some reason. -

What rifle to carry opening morning?

You're probably right. At any rate, here's my rainy weather rifle. A Spanish 7x57. I've got less than $100 in it loaded. After finally getting the barrel clean, which took several years of intermittent cleaning, it's beginning to show a glimmer of promise in the accuracy department. I hate photobucket! :wall: It wasn't sideways when I posted it. -
So....what ya' gettin' done?
-
If it's raining, I have an old Spanish Mauser I sporterized, but if it's not, I can't decide which rifle goes with me. If my youngest son goes with me, he'll be packing a rifle, and I might just carry a revolver. What will you be packin'?
