1. What makes you think it isn't an 1896 S&W? I believe it is.
2. My youngest son had one. He outgrew it fast, but it ran like a top. I sold it for about what I gave for it new.   I'd suggest a bigger one the kid could grow into. There's no reason a little fella can't ride a full sized 4 wheeler. If I went this route, however, I'd buy a name brand one instead of a China knockoff.
3. I moved one of mine. Jacked it up with a handyman jack and backed a utility trailer under it.
4. I calculated materials and bought the lumber and hardware; not a kit. I don't know what to tell you about the kits.
5. There should be some markings such as Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass, and various patent dates marked on the cylinder. I believe I can see something there in the pcis.       http://gunsoftheoldwest.com/2013/02/sws-32-hand-ejector/
6. I'be built a couple of the portable Dutch barn looking sheds. There ain't much to it. It's the best why to get what you want in my opinion.
7. LOL! Chit happens!!!
8. Ain;t nothing better than a good woman, and there ain't nothing worse than a bad one. Here's hoping you snagged a good one!   I'm working on 21 years, and wouldn't take anything for one moment of it.
9. ...and a reloading bench in the basement. :D   I hope you know you're welcome there, Mike.
10. Practice breeds familiarity, which in turn breeds confidence.
11. Yeah....I can buy a transfer case actuator. It still isn't going into 4wd. I still needed the differential, it just turns out it wasn't the ONLY problem. The oil in the old differential was filled with "glitter".
12. I'd put a Williams Foolproof receiver sight on it, and buy some Remington 150 grain core-loct ammo.   I personally don't care for a scope nor sling on a classic lever rifle. They both take away from the fast handling characteristics which made these rifles popular.
13. Welcome to the forum, and nice work!!! :hat: You give good advice about the Weaver rings. You can buy prettier and you can buy fancier, but if you want something that'll simply work, the old steel Weaver rings are the gold standard.
14. Thanks again for all the advice. The replacement went smoothly. I pulled the old one Friday night, and put the replacement in Saturday morning. It took about 2 hours. Saved me a fortune as well as not having my truck for a week or so.
15. What else would you do with them?
16. It's like teeth in a chicken around here.
17. It's been only a myth for a while now. Since Sandy Hook at least. I emailed Winchester a while back and asked if they had plans to ever make any more. They never emailed back. I can prove it once existed.
18. Now that's pretty damned cool!
19. Any joy getting the case out?
20. Yeah.....or I could properly mount a scope.
21. If Obama had a son......he'd be packin' one of them! :no1:
22. As I said, it appears to be fine. I really won't know til I get it in the truck. By then I'll have a day's work in it. I guess that's a gamble you take with used parts.
23. Actually, a proper cheek weld is of greater concern to me than the other issues.
24. You know what I'm talking about. The 30-30 lever, or 742 Rem with the hubble telescope mounted on top, about a foot above the bore.
