  1. The song is longer than it took for the ship to sink. I still like it.
  2. I get more meat from a commercial processor than I produce butchering a deer myself. My final product is also superior to the butcher's. Perhaps I dispose of too much waste, but what I'm left with sure is good eating. Th dogs also get several meals from my scrap, so all is not lost.
  3. I saw at least 30 deer this morning while in the stand. 5 were bucks, but no trophies. They were running the does like crazy. One young 8 pointer chased a doe all over the hill behind me for at least an hour. Not sure if he ever caught her, but I expect he will.
  4. Welcome to the forum. Legally, a blackpowder revolver is not a firearm, and can be purchased without a background check; even mailed directly to your door. Some localities have ordinances regarding the storage of large amounts of black powder; more than the average enthusiast would likely have at home. If you are interested in black powder reproductions, Dixie Gun Works is a must visit, and not too long a drive from Clarksville. Be sure to learn about cleaning these arms before shooting, as rust is their greatest enemy. The caps and black powder are quite corrosive.
  5. You make money from selling these, right? I have no problem with that as long as you represent them honestly. As with all insurance, when the seller makes money, the buyer, on average, loses that money. Stuff like this and car payments is what keeps broke people broke in perpetuity. It is a side effect of buying stuff one can't afford.
  6. I got up this morning, heard the wind blowing, and went right back to bed. Maybe it'll be calmer tomorrow.
  7. Put the money in a savings account, maintain and drive the truck well, and pay for repairs yourself (there probably won't be many if any). I replaced a transfer case, front differential, and heads on an 02 Silverado and didn't spend that much money! Extended warranties are designed to take advantage of folks who aren't good at managing money.
  8. No, you are correct. Guns=bad. Military=bad. Middle aged white guy=bad. This is the media's checklist. This guy hit the trifecta.
  9. You don't have a clue how right you are!
  10. I badly need to do some organizing, as I have managed to accumulate way more than I have room for. The long gun situation is a lost cause, but I'd like to hear about what type pistol racks, door mounted as well as shelf units, you have and/or what you'd recommend to get more guns in an allotted space.
  11. They will conclude that old, white, conservative guys are the problem.
  12. Great buck! Congratulations.
  13. Good luck and good hunting to everybody going in the morning! Looks like the weather should be in your favor.
  14. Feibing's is the die everyone I know uses. I'm not sure what other brands are available. One thing I've noticed about the black dye is that once it dries, you need to really buff it with a shoe brush so it doesn't rub off on other things. Once you've done that, it leaves a beautiful black color. You can pick it up at Tandy's in Nashville if it is convenient for you.
  15. A pothead Lab would be a sight to behold!
  16. I give him glucosamine and cat's claw for the hip problems. Of course they haven't gotten better, but I do believe it has slowed if not stopped the progression. He's still as loving as ever. Tail still wagging, and seems like he doesn't fell too awful bad yet. He doesn't seem as excited for his evening walk as he used to be, and he gets tired quicker. My wife has been crying a lot and petting him almost constantly. They are very close. That's the really hard part.
  17. 9 year old Lab.
  18. Is there a rest home for dogs?
  19. ...and almost as expensive as the rifle.
  20. Twice a day. Perhaps my wife misunderstood, but she heard $50 per unit. The dog would require 18 units. I do know that equals $900. I do not know w much else. Would special dog food help to any degree? I'm going to look into the cinnamon.
  21. Cinnamon....hmmmm....worth a try. That still figures out to about $1000 a month, Right?
  22. Yes. My wife took him to the vet today. She said insulin was $50 per unit, and at his weight, he'd require 18 units. She didn't ask if that was per dose, day, month, or what. I think he's probably had it a while and it's pretty bad.
  23. ...and treatment for it is ridiculously expensive. He also has hip displaysia. Anybody have any suggestions for things that might help him? We really think a lot of him, and don't want him to suffer.
  24. Sounds like a fine kid.
