I just picked up a truckload of hickory limbs out of the yard after the storm last night. I wish I knew an easy way to turn them into chips ( I don't have a wood chipper).

I picked up a 7 lb butt roast, and a rack of ribs. I also got the ingredients for a rub I found online. The ribs are already seasoned. I put the rub on the roast, and am about to throw it all on the smoker once it finishes the initial curing process. Will let you all know how it turns out.

If the rest of the bunch don't quit the constant robocalls, He may get my vote.

Piggly Wiggly here has a reduced section in the meat department's freezer. We often find steaks there at greatly reduced price. I don't know if you are familiar with the term "aged beef", but it is a big selling point at high dollar restaurants. It turns out that these steaks that have aged in the grocer's cooler are usually better and more tender than the fresh cut steaks in the other cooler that people pay top dollar for.

That would be the point of catastrophic care medical insurance. Does you auto insurance pay for brakes, oil changes, tires, etc.?

I don't shoot much anymore. It's part laziness and part lack of free time. I also have two safes full plus several stashed about. I really don't have the room nor a sane reason to buy much more. You get tired of anything if you do it enough. To tell the truth, I don't find much enjoyment in anything anymore. I guess it's part of getting older.

How many thousands of dollars does that represent?

By you and I reaching into our wallets and paying for the services we use, not unlike most any other product or service we enjoy.

People who would have to actually open their wallet and pay for what today they take for granted is free, or at least available with a set copay. If I could get a new truck for free, I'd go to a lot, pick out the nicest one, and drive off. I don't give a crap what it costs. Since I have to pay for my own truck, I'm going to price shop as well as consider other options; even if I really need a new truck at all. This causes dealerships to be competitive in price without government regulating truck prices. This is something not seen in today's medical industry.

One wouldn't charge $5000 for an injection if the clinic down the street charged $10. We definitely don't need government setting prices. Just the opposite. Get government out of it and let the free market work. Most of today's healthcare costs ARE incurred due to government regulations.

That would all change with some competition. Call your doctor's office and ask how much it would cost to have a wart removed. They'll have no idea. If the food industry worked like the medical industry, a cheeseburger would cost several thousand dollars. If the customer actually had to pay for services, they'd shop around and prices would begin to be competitive and affordable. My wife is a medical coder for a hospital. She, and the dozens of her coworkers make a LOT of money doing something that isn't necessary, and seems counterproductive to me. Many costs like this would go away with cash services.

The answer is to go back to catastrophic medical care insurance and pay for the rest out of one's pocket. We are always on the cusp of one major healthcare breakthrough after another. Among the many other unintended consequences of government healthcare is that these studies and medical advancements will instantly cease. Who wants that?

My answer to all of the above is yes. I thought all that was just part of basic financial planning. Bad things can and do happen however. One can only plan for so many variables. It doesn't seem wise to just say screw it; the government will handle it all for me.

People want free stuff.

I've bought Sketchers for my kids in the past, and they all self destructed in short order. I couldn't recommend them. I live in Red Wing work boots and cannot recommend shoes of any ilk.
