While sitting in the classroom portion, I got several good looks down the barrel of the instructor's loaded, cocked, and locked 1911. Why the S.O.B. found it prudent to unholster and wave his gun around while talking eluded me. Probably the same reason he was married to the woman helping him who was more than old enough to be his mother. Quite an operator indeed.

If the idiot who taught the class I attended was certified, there can't be much to it.

Your fingers are the problem. The press does it's job just fine. I wouldn't dare attempt to load 25 ACP. There's nothing to hold onto. I guess one could do it with tweezers.

I reload 380s. They are almost small enough to be a pain in the rear, but it is something to do on a rainy day.

Owning a Compact Version and a Full Size Version of the Same Pistol
gregintenn replied to Moped's topic in Handguns
I own several sizes and configurations of the venerable 1911. Same for the Smith and Wesson hand ejector revolver. -
I only have an original LCP. I have no idea how many rounds have been through it, but I shoot it more than any other firearm I own. I've carried and shot it for years, and it has been 100% reliable. I suppose it will probably need new springs at some point, but I haven't detected any undue wear so far. I paid $300 for it, and if it became inoperable today, I can replace it for $200. I feel it has already provided more than $300 worth of service.

If you wear one out, they aren't very expensive to replace. I find it to be a non issue.

Does TN have special taxes on Ammo?
gregintenn replied to ChanceMcCall's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If a dime is that big a deal to you, just order it on the internet. Since the money is earmarked for TWRA projects, I do not mind it. They have fish hatcheries scattered about for restocking Tennessee waters, and do myriad other things with the money. We wouldn't have wild turkeys here if it were not for this. It is money well spent for the sportsman. Heck, the TWRA often solicits our opinions on things such as regulations, bag limits, etc. I wish all of government was run like the TWRA. -
Storage For Tools and Cleaning Kit

If there is one thing we can do around here, it's spend other people's' money! -
Not me. I'm right there with you. I despise jointed cleaning rods. I'd only add some copper solvent and a bottle of oil and you have it pretty much covered. A brush is a brush and a jag is a jag.

My heart sank when I saw this thread. Thank God she made it through that!

Mine still shows the status as "pending". Maybe one of these days.....

Storage For Tools and Cleaning Kit
gregintenn replied to ShaggyRS6's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Years ago, I bought a cleaning kit from Midway. It doesn't look like they still sell it, but it came in a large plastic box sort of like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Company-Ultimate-Cleaning-Handgun/dp/B00I81LC5A/ref=sr_1_12_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1549914280&sr=8-12-spons&keywords=gun+cleaning+kit&psc=1 I've found it to be a great place to store my cleaning tools and supplies. -
No collector value. Whatever it's worth would be the sum of it's parts plus whatever accuracy it is capable of.

I spent the day doing some auto mechanicing , and never went. Oh well.....maybe next time.

Handgun storage in gun safe
gregintenn replied to gregintenn's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
You are lagging behind if that will hold all or your handguns. Lay off the ARs and catch up! -
There's one tomorrow'. Anybody ever been to one? Is it worth attending? I'd like to find a really nice flattop for less than the price of the truck I'm driving.

Handgun storage in gun safe

LOL! Part of my ammo fills a refrigerator sized cabinet built of 1" plywood. What doesn't fit in there is stacked on a shelf underneath my workbench. I may have a problem. -
Innovative new sights you can make at home ..

I hope these become commercially available at some point. I love the creativity of some folks. -
Good looking knife.

I don't like Glocks because they are ugly. Nothing to do with the disassembly process.

It is classic "Bubba" if I've ever I saw an example.

Opinions on an H&R Handi Rifle in .223 for coyote hunting?
gregintenn replied to Sidewinder's topic in Hunting and Fishing
My 50 caliber muzzleloader does an excellent job bringing down coyotes. I don't reckon a 7mm mag would be way over the top. -
I'm really digging the custom trigger guard and floor plate assembly. Did he beat them out of a garbage can lid?

IMaybe 30 years ago, I bought a 6" 357 Magnum Taurus at an auction for a song. I wasn't familiar with h the brand, but the fit and finish were of fine quality, and the action was a smooth as butter. Recently, my father brought by a stainless Taurus 92 Beretta copy he'd acquired somewhere. Same thing. If I had it, I wouldn't trade it for a Beretta. It is awesome. That being said, every other Taurus I've inspected seemed to be cheap junk. What would your overall opinion of the company be?
