You are an economical guy. Do you like 1911s? I have a GSG 1911 22. It is as fun to shoot as any handgun I’ve ever handled. I think you can buy a new one for about two hundred bucks. I suck as a pistol shooter, but can routinely ring a four inch gong at 50 yards with mine shooting cheap bulk federal ammo.

Thanks for the great advice. You guys have hit on my dilemma. I do not intend to sit at the house and look out the window. I do not intend to continue working the same job for half of what I'll be paid to not work there anymore. I also do not intend to work somewhere else for half the pay. I really need to decide on what I want to do. I toyed with the idea of opening up a hydraulic shop, but a guy near here has recently opened one up. Oh well, I'll come up with something.

My wife and I have made it a priority to save for kids’, education, retirement, and bought term life insurance. We’ve done this since we’ve been married.

Social security is nothing but an onerous farce in my opinion. I do not count on ever seeing a penny of it. My employer will pay me roughly half my salary once I reach 30 years of service. They will also provide health insurance at that point. I have to pay 20 percent as I do now.

It would be part of my retirement package. Guys, I said I intend to retire before I am 50. Social security is a fairy tale to me.

I fear I'll face the same thing, but do not intend to work for half what I'm currently making. (That's what it would amount to when I reach retirement eligibility.)

I think, barring an unforeseen catastrophe, I have my ducks in a row to retire before I'm 50. Anybody else here retire early? I'd love to hear your story and any advice you'd care to share. I expect I'd be bored, and will find something productive to do, but look forward to turning this page in my life.

I can’t help but wonder how it would have turned out if he’d shot and killed her first. I’d call it self defense, but that would have been a hard hill to climb since she wore the badge.

I don’t know if you guys have them, but they are approaching biblical plague status here. Any tips on repelling them would be greatly appreciated. I am prepared to purchase nuclear weapons on the black market if that’s what it takes.
