I’ve bought some at a local pawn shop, estate auctions, and eBay. They don’t take up much room in a gun safe.

Russian 556!is pretty reasonably too.

https://palmettostatearmory.com/palmetto-state-armory-mil-spec-carry-handle.html my favorite type AR rear sight.

I bought one of those a good while back. Still haven't took it out of the box. I need to get it out and see what it'll do.
-
As I said, I am buying at spot price. There is a market and set price per ounce of both silver and gold. In fact, platinum is really cheap right now, but I do not know enough about it to know why. I with you regarding anything with collector value above and beyond the value of the melted metal.
-
You will find rifle shooting to be quite different from handguns.
-
I always heard that an ounce of gold would buy a quality tailored suit or a new Colt revolver. Pretty close looking back on history. If all it does is hedge against inflation, I don't want a large store of it, but some seems prudent.
-
I'd prefer a carry handle.
-
I can't do it with a single stage press, and have no interest in a progressive. If you can, that's great. I stand corrected.

As the stock market enters scary territory, I seem to be gaining a passing interest in precious metals. Gold and silver coins seem to be an east way to quantify an amount and purity of these metals. So far, I'm just trying to buy around spot price with little regard to collectible value. I know AuEagle is a connoisseur of precious metals. Anybody else here have an interest? If so, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the future of the precious metals market, and coin collecting in general.

Buy yourself a $100 High Point and unload em.

It is a hobby for me, but reloading 218 Bee, 41 Magnum, 257 ROBERTS, etc., seems like a more worthwhile endeavor. I do have 9mm reloading components, and occasionally load them, but not for economic reasons. $9 a box to your door from Palmetto State Armory for 9mm. No labor involved. Just not worth the effort for me; especially since I have never advanced from a single stage press.
-
I do. That’s why I don’t like going on vacation.
-
If one measures his time by how much he can earn, you cannot reload 9mm cheaper than you can buy it....even at minimum wage.

A company truck is my favorite ride. Gas card, free maintenance...what’s not to like?
-
That’s the ticket! I forgot about the 649. I will advise that the 357 magnum round out of any j frame is quite a handful.
-
Only? Wow! We have 5 vehicles, and altogether they wouldn’t be worth $40k. Heck, I could add my boat, 4 wheeler, and my son’s street bike and still don’t get up to 40k. That’s quite a sum to have tied up in a depreciating asset.
-
I wasn’t aware the OP specified a caliber, but to my knowledge, you are correct.
-
Let me know when someone gets arrested for it and you’ll have my attention.

Or go with the Smith and Wesson 638 and have the best of both worlds.

Which responses? -
My theory is to alter the least expensive part.

I find the recoil from a large caliber handgun like a 45, or even a 44 mag, to be more of a shove, where a smaller, faster round, like a 9mm or 357 mag to be more of a sharp rap against the web of the hand. More weight definitely reduces recoil, and more grip surface area seems to reduce felt recoil.
