  1. Grab a file and hunk of steel and make one and you’ll be really amazed at how inexpensive it is.
  2. Dave, I trust you realize government created this problem. You have more faith than I do if you expect them to fix it.
  3. The medical industry went off the reservation when consumers were disconnected from the price of the product/service. Call a hospital and ask how much they'd charge to remove your gall bladder. They wouldn't have a clue. I know of no other industry that operates this way. Another problem we've run into is the cold, hard fact that we have the ability to do more things than we can afford to do. We all love our families, but is it economically sustainable to do a million dollars worth of medical procedures to granny who is 95 and doesn't even know where she's at? Is it really even doing her any favors regardless of who pays the bill? These are some tough questions that will soon have to be answered. I understand the emotional side of making all healthcare available to everyone, but it simply does not work on a calculator. I do know that an ever increasing tax burden on the working folks of this country isn't the way to solve it. I also know that a lot of folks will go to the doctor or emergency room when it isn't necessary as long as there isn't a cost to them. Make them pay a few hundred bucks, and they will discover alternative measures to deal with whatever ails them.
  4. What??!!? Can’t a guy get in touch with his feminine side once in a while?
  5. That’s awesome. I agree that family is more important than money. What I disagreed with was your statement that there was no way a “working stiff” could retire comfortably. You just stated several reasons why you aren’t willing to do what it takes. Please don’t take my post the wrong way. I think you are making some great decisions. It’s just that I fully believe you could become wealthy were that your goal. I think you have better goals.
  6. If that is your attitude, that is your probably where you will end up. A person’s income, and lot in life for that matter is only guided by a few things. His health, ability, drive, and imagination. You aren’t tied to your current job. I expect your wife can work. You can also pick up after hours work. There are as many options as your imagination allows. If you are happy where you are, great. If not, find someone who is where you want to be and figure out what they are doing differently from you.
  7. I was told the Affordable Care Act would solve this problem. We see how that went. What is your proposal to fix it? Tax me more?
  8. I think I was wrong on my terminology. What I meant to say was major medical. It was the type plan where you just paid for a doctor visit or er visit and meds. It paid for some major surgery, cancer, etc. That is how medical insurance was supposed to be.
  9. What you are talking about isn’t the same thing as the old insurance plans. They are no longer available. I would like to disagree about saving for retirement. If one starts early, invests regularly, and stays with it, he doesn’t have to put up very much a month to retire a millionaire. Most folks do not have the discipline or foresight to do this.
  10. I like the idea. As we are fortunate enough to have good insurance, I haven’t tried it personally.
  11. Do you like it?
  12. That IS health insurance. What we have today is prepaid healthcare. It is like car insurance paying for tires, brakes, and oil changes. Some doctors are now advertising menu style pricing for services. I believe this will continue to more and more popular.
  13. Well, .gov made illegal catastrophic care insurance. It was affordable and what we should all have anyway.
  14. I am planning to retire in just over a year. I am a little apprehensive about it as it gets closer. I like my job, but can retire with insurance and roughly half my pay. I figure if I become broke or bored, I can always find something else to do. At least it will be a change.
  15. This was a trait I hadn’t really noticed until I married. Luckily, my wife is gracious enough to point it out on a regular basis.
  16. I live in the sticks. Any unrest will not likely affect me unless I choose to drive to it and participate. Since I am often wrong, we are well armed and reside on a property that geography makes fairly easy to defend.
  17. Any of ya’ll know anybody in Tennessee who doesn’t own a gun?
  18. Sounds like a cool old man. It would be neat to find some of his notes regarding loads. I expect you can find the ammo, but it won’t be cheap.
  19. The 32/20 Contender barrel sounds interesting.
  20. I cannot imagine...
  21. There may come a time you wish you had them back.
  22. Looks good, but I’m afraid it is missing sighting equipment. What is it comprised of? I was aware the side charging bolts were available, but am not familiar with who makes the receivers and bolts.
  23. I think they’d average a hundred bucks apiece or so, as they are all modern. The Knight would bring a bit more. They’d sell, and they’re just like selling a car wheel....no dealers, background checks, etc. Why don’t you read up on them and shoot them a bit before parting with them? A lot of us really enjoy shooting them, and they can be about as accurate as many modern firearms. Their utility afar outweighs their current value in my opinion. Just he sure to thoroughly clean and oil them after firing, as powder and caps are corrosive! P.S. Make damn sure he didn’t leave any of them loaded before attempting to load them.
  24. Good grief! I think even I could manage to turn a profit with a well known and respected gun and ammo manufacturing business right now.
