Yeah. When we got back home last night, he rode it around the school parking lot with a big grin on his face. It didn't seem like he had any problem with it.

We all had to learn. Thank God I didn’t start with a Gold Wing! The natural progression is a bicycle, then a mini bike, then a dirt bike, and finally a street bike. At least that’s how I did it.

Thanks for the advice. We picked him up a bike last night. It’s an 06 Suzuki Boulevard S40, which is just a newer Savage 650. The big one cylinder engine is different from what I’m used to. It’s nice, and has 2500 miles on it. I thought $2k was a fair price, considering what I’ve looked at. It’s black and sharp. It has mew brakes, new tires, windshield, saddlebags, sissy bar bag, phone holder, new battery, and a fresh oil change. It also came with a helmet, Clymer manual, factory manual, and two oil filters. It was owned and ridden by an older man who decided to get a bigger bike. I rode it home; about 70 miles last night. Ran great. I think it’ll do.

They aren’t dead, they just aren’t growing much. I think a good rain would help.

My older son took a riding course, and my younger son intends to as well. It probably wouldn’t hurt for me to take it with him. That is good advice.

He’s 5-10/ 5-11, and a buck thirty soaking wet. I’m inclined to steer him toward a Honda 500 CBR, and looking at used prices, probably a new one, although it’s a bit beyond what he’s wanting to spend. What do you all think of them?

I think a Honda 230 xr would be an awesome place to start. I told him he might even want to keep it for trail riding after moving up to a dedicated street machine.

Mine was nearly mint except for a tear in the seat. A local elderly lady who did upholstery repaired that for a song. I bought it for the princely sum of $150. My first bike was a Kawasaki 100. Might have been a KZ. Then came the CB 360. My next bike was a Yamaha 175 Enduro, followed by a 360 Enduro. Those were awesome! Next up was a 79 Honda 125 CR Elsinore. It was FAST! Then A Yamaha 850 Special, complete with fairing and cassette player. My mother thought it was too big for me, so I sold it and bought a 79 Sportster. It looked smaller. Drenched in chrome, blue dot coffin tail light, and straight drag pipes! I loved that bike! Wish I still had it. Sadly, my wife doesn't share my history and love for all things with engines and two wheels. I'm retiring in September, and like it or not, a nice Harley or Indian will be my retirement present to myself. Maybe she'll adjust.

He's definitely after a street bike.

I've ridden all my life, and my older son now has a sweet Harley Davidson Low Rider. My younger son who is 17 (almost 18) has worked really hard this summer, and has laid up some money. He's decided he wants to dip his toe into the world of motorcycles. He has ridden small bike a little bit, and has the balance, clutch, gears, etc thing pretty well figured out. He'd like to find a good starter bike. Things have changed in the last 35 years since I was riding a Honda CB 360. I'd love to hear some suggestions for a good starter bike for this young man. He's leaning toward a sport type bike, but would consider a cruiser. I'd hate to see him get a really small bike he'd be tired of in a month, but also don't want him to get too much bike to learn on. Heck, someone here might even have a nice example sitting in the way in the garage collecting dust. Let's hear your ideas!

I am fortunate. I’m not a real social guy, and the folks I’ve met on TGO I count among my closest friends. Many thanks to David who makes this forum possible, and the moderators who make this forum tolerable. Happy birthday America! May God bless you all.

I have a wood bench and a dirt backstop 100 yards apart. I cam shoot much further than that here, but it works for most applications. I have several neighbors that use it as well, but I am particular as to who. It is invitation only for safety’s sake.

Thank you, sir, and the same to you. We’ve had a wonderful weekend thus far. Hope you’ve had the same. You couldn’t ask for better weather.

This was a bit more of a high brow and family oriented affair than the one you described, but I’d have enjoyed that one as well. If you’ve never seen Leroy Troy play his “agitator”, don’t cheat yourself!

Tonight, we went to the first annual bluegrass festival in Millersville. The community center there is nice, the crowd was small, and it was free. The talent was amazing! My wife saw it on facebook back in the spring and put it on her calendar. We could find nothing else about it. I definitely plan to go next year. That’s a nice little community right out of Nashville. Everyone was friendly. I noticed no one left amy trash lying around.

These were designed to fore once and toss into the river. I think Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded a song about them.

We’re just now starting to get ripe tomatoes. Deer keep the peas topped off. Have gotten a handful of cucumbers. The green beans are just now begenning to produce. Yesterday’s rain helped, but it could have used more. I see a couple of corn stalks starting to tassel. My squash and zucchini look awful this year. I didn’t know you could screw them up. I’ve thinned out the deer and coon population by one each. I need to get busy on them.

Thanks, but it didn’t help. Wow they looked bad.

C’mon guys, you can’t cheer for Vanderbilt? They could really use the help right now.

Enjoy it. The days of our kids traveling with us are pretty much gone. It happens fast.

I like the way she thinks. Sounds like a great trip.
